I want to get into art this year but drawing fundamental shapes such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and what not for hours everyday has been tormenting so far but I know without them I won't be able to draw anything else. How long did it take for you artists to move on from these 😭😭😭

I started like a month ago and I can say I've become moderately comfortable drawing faces (I went back and forth with faces and gesture drawings). In the first week all I ever did was draw the basic shapes but honestly I recommend you try your hand at drawing what you want so you can see which shapes need more improvement
Want to draw a creature? Draw one
      Create an illustration? Try it
Just trying to draw your endgoal can help you realize what area needs work and what needs less attention

Draw basic shapes as other things. For example, draw cubes as a robot or humanoid. Draw them as if they were the building blocks of a piece of art, because it's ultimately what you're practicing them for. As for moving on, technically speaking you never truly move on from them, they just fade into the background and become automatic.

For me it was never hours on end drawing those things, maybe a couple pages of shapes in perspective, a page of straight lines in different directions, a page of different curved lines just to help get used to shoulder drawing, generally only do them now as warm ups, few circles, few lines, a couple of boxes in perspective before I start drawing.

I've been drawing for the last 5/6 years, and shapes are usually something that I do only for warm-up, it's an amazing practice but hella boring.
Do the following instead, draw different shapes in different positions, perspectives, wacky distorted, complex shapes, simples shapes etc... for about 10 minutes don't be too precious just focus on understanding the 3D form.
After that go draw something that you think is interesting, copy some art that you find cool (not tracing but eye referencing) create some oc, have fun with the process, that way you're doing you're gonna burn yourself out and start to associate art with boring-stressful time.
Fundamental shapes don't go away ever, no subject goes you study, later you go back to the basics again, try to be kind to yourself the results are going to be bad, but the process is super fun and seeing you getting better is the best sensation ever. Good luck in your journey

I enjoyed the video a lot! It actually made me think because I have been talking about getting goals and stuff but I never touch my pencil or do so digitaly- I use my finger for that. 😭
I think my main problem- (Well- I have many-) is character design and colours. ☝️😃
