    The concrete when poured burns the galvanised coating of The submerged post
    Best to use a 5 or 6 mm thick post on a raised stirup degrease post .. etched rust primer then an epoxy paint
    Posts done this way 11 years ago and absolutely no rust in a coastal region

    Just about to do the same to some posts. Useful video and info, cheers.

    Am dealing with something similar at my place. Looks like not enough concrete was used in hole. It’s actually below ground level which means over time it fills in with dirt. Creating dirt buildup on gal post, hello rust. Is it not a good idea to put a concrete apron around post base after rust treatment?

    • @DieterSoegemeier
      @DieterSoegemeier  4 месяца назад

      Yes, the concrete cap should be about 100mm higher than the dirt around it after rust protection

    I'm keen to know what you did after the rust treatment. Did you just paint the most, then put the soil back? Did you concrete around it up to the soil level?

      What we did is then paint the posts with a two pac epoxy from International Paints called Interplus 1180 that was developed for oil rigs and once that is dry we then fill the hole with concrete and dome it above ground level so the water will no longer pool around the post.

    Believe it or not, this is the only video on youtube that addresses a galvanized square tube installed into concrete. My mail post gets knocked off 3 times a year by the town's snowplow. It's been 4 years now and I can't take it anymore. I'm installing a 6x6 gal into a sonotube with commercial grade footing and a rebar setup that will have John divorce Deere at the next gathering. The tube is hollow and protrudes a few inches above grade where there are perforations on each side. My plan is to plug in a (replaceable) 6x6 wooden post and fasten it to the tube with a lag screw or tapcon on each side. My question is this: will the perforations allow water to seep into the tube if I seal all around with liquid rubber and tar ? Rust on the outside isn't my concern, but the inside needs to stay in perfect shape for the next post (hopefully in 5+ years).

      Hi Mario
      Thanks for the reply.
      The only way I see any steel post surviving the ordeal you describe is to use a stainless steel post as a reciever with no welded bottom so the hole can drain. any other steel will not do it without rusting, and definately not galvanized.
      I hope this was helpfull to you.

    I have been told to use ranex rustbuster and when dry apply bitumen paint.. is that correct.. is that the same as the epoxy you talk about?

    • @DieterSoegemeier
      @DieterSoegemeier  9 месяцев назад

      I did use bitumen paint, the thick one for 15 years but found out through going back to old jobs theat even the thick one only lasts about 6+ years because of the heavy metals in the dirt eating all the oils out of the paint.
      That is why I changed to a much stronger coating.
      I have been told of a single pack urathane paint used for waterproffing as well.

    • @angemcanany3942
      @angemcanany3942 9 месяцев назад

      @@DieterSoegemeier so after the ranex rustbuster what do you apply? I can't seem to find the video where you mention that part 🤔

    • @DieterSoegemeier

      @@angemcanany3942Then apply a coet of Penetrol then any enamel coating but add some penetrol to the enamel to help it bond better. Enamel is a sealer and wont let any water in. never use any accrilic as it is water based and lets water in all the time.

    what is Gal and how does it couse the problem ?

    • @DieterSoegemeier
      @DieterSoegemeier  5 лет назад

      Hi Chris, Gal is the galvanised lsacrifical layer of zinc they have coated the steel with.
      The zinc reacts with the lime in the concrete whrn water is around, Water is the catalist that combines the zinc and lime making acid that then eates through the steel post 3 times faster than rust itself. This process goes even faster if you have dogs peeing on the posts as the uric acid accelerates the corrosion process. That is why the posts need a protective layer pf paint that seals the steel away from moisture. A good enamel or epoxy.to prevent the two materials from combining with the water

    There is zero beneficial information in this video. Please think before you post a video. You could go back and do a voice-over to actually explain how to do something instead of just wasting everyone's time.
