I had a misfire on cylinder number 2 and 7 on my Dodge ram. Replacing both coils didn't fix the problem. Removed the spark plugs and the electrodes were completely worn away. So a cylinder misfire isn't always a bad coil. Start with the most inexpensive thing first! Luckily the auto parts store let me return the coils

I think it is difficult to trust this device
... What if the spark is weak? There will be a weak magnetic field. The device will show that the coil is good
...Also, what if there is a spark leak?
At first I thought it would work and after thinking I don't want to do that

I am not exactly sure. I think it has something to do with picking up the pulses but not exactly sure. I only use it for a quick test.

You don't need matco. Probably several dollars over what other brands are. It's just a pen tester for checking current through cords, outlets, boards, ignition coils, etc. I do have to say tho, never thought about using on coils. That's a great idea.

Matco doesn't even make it tbh. This is just a quick easy test to see if you have spark.

I have a spark plug tester. You just put on the wires while engine is running..I think it would work about the same.

$35 isn't super cheap to me ,,,when I'm about broke it's not super cheap. Not everyone has that amount $ easily available. Cool tool though I would say.
