Growing up, my big brother got me into FF. He was into FF until 8 came out, then he kinda drifted away from them. As a kid, I never got to play and beat any of them, because he would always take his memory card so I always had to restart them from the beginning and play as much as I could, but it was still so fun. Anyways, after we got a PS2, the PS1 kind of sat there unplayed. One day I got to borrow FF9 from a friend and it was the first one I had all to myself, didn't have to take turns as my brothers were using the PS2 by now. The memories from this game, especially the music, it resonates with me so much. The happiness I get from hearing the music from these games, especially remixed this way, it brings so many feelings up in me. Happiness, longing for the time in my childhood, remembering when I didn't have to worry about money or bills or my GPA. I know I can never go back, and accept it, but just for a moment... this music can bring me there. It's funny how so much of the story just goes over your head as a kid, you only really focus on who is the bad guy, and how do you beat them up. Now in my adult life, I relate to Vivi so much. Figuring out what my purpose is, and trying to find the strength to go on even when I feel like giving up.
Funny i was the same my brother was obsessed with ff7 and 8 and resident evil 1 and 2, then lost interest and i got to come along and play ff9 and re3 as the next generation. I had a bad time in high school and ff9 kept me going and really imprinted itself on me. Now i can go back and play it with my girlfriend and it actually holds up. I think its translated far better than 7 or 8 and is actually very funny while also getting very dark especially towards the end. Only problem is the remaster still does little for the graphics. The game was not meant for huge hd tvs. I k3pt trying to explain how good this game looked on a little crt tv. The only way to see the game as its meant to look is to stand on the other side of the room. Then it looks how you remember it.
Awesome comment. Same here! FF9 was the first game I really sat down and PLAYED. Not just random beat 'em ups or games that you started and stopped in one sitting. I became so engrossed in it. I had a game guide for it (wow remember those?) but only ever used it as a last resort...and GameFAQs was too tedious to navigate on dialup. I remember it feeling so bittersweet when I finished it. Happy, but so so sad that it was over. To this day, I still go back to it and play it every now and then. The Steam version, while different, is convenient so I go with that. Steiner will forever be the character I related to. Someone who puts all others before him. Considered a goof/not taken seriously but behind the charade is a loyal, powerful fighter who truly is a hero by the end of it all.
True story. When I was a kid I loved this game. I was playing once and had to pause during the middle of the cutscene with Dagger and her hair. I got distracted and didn't return for a few hours, by which time her face and "Paused" had been burned onto the TV so it would always show up when the screen went black after that!
Bruh, that was my best friend and I when FF 13 came out. The tv was flat screen and free, so we were like, “nice.” Problem is, the picture looked like this AND had a big black strip of missing visuals on the right side. Oh well. Oerba was still just as stunning.
This is sort of related but I played ff7 on a very old TV, probably from the mid to early 80s. The colors were going, being both dim and off, with like a yellowish green hue to everything. When I eventually got a better tv it was like I was gifted with a remastered version of ff7 ;)
My husband and I bonded over our love for FFIX when we first met. Wondered how long this video has been around and realized it was published on our one-year anniversary! Super cool! We love this playlist.
I know me and a guy at gs had this same convo I'd like to see a remastered Steiner capt. Steiner is my main and Everything in its finest glits ps I'd certainly buy it and square it in my heart pun intended
"Oooh, soft" This is dope, you are talented, thank you for this. There's a community of us who hold this game above every other, we understand each other
This is the game i love the most. The nostalgia in the music, the journey, the characters.. So deep, so lonely and so damn aesthetic hahaha i used to play this gamr with my brothers, and since we finally beat the final boss everything started being different, i dont talk to them anymore and I was just a kid back then. But thx to this game I have good and happy memories with my brothers. =)
I imagine that this version of "You Are Not Alone" is what would play if Zidane decided to sit down and sort through the truth, rather than go on a giant monster killing rampage.
I played IX at a very strange time in my life and have come to associate that period with it's OST. Hearing it in this way paints those memories in a whole new light that is way more in line with where I was mentally. Never thought I'd get emotional over lo-fi FFIX beats but here we are...!
I'm so happy to see that the youtube algorithm is working well enough to show me this exact thing that I'm into And I'm even happier you made this, thank you
My first exposure to FFIX was when I was in elementary school. My dad played the game with my and my little brother by his side. He would read all the dialog, and give every character a unique voice, and bleep out all of the swear words. He played it all the way through 2, maybe 3 times. When we got older he passed the game down to me, and I played it 4 or 5 times. I did EVERYTHING in that game. Card collecting, all the chocobo hot and cold, the 3 secret bosses, daguero, every secret treasure chest, the Ruby easter eggs, everything! I played the game so much that my PS1 discs burnt out and became completely unplayable (the bottom of the disc is just buffed out and unplayable) and i had to buy a new "greatest hits" copy. I bought the game again on Steam (and am about to do a playthrough on my gaming channel). I have played this game in childhood and replayed over and over through adolescence and several times in adulthood too. The nostalgia is a huge factor, but the game (cheesy as it sounds) shaped me into who I am. I learned compassion and what it means to be human from this game. It always makes me emotional -- and every time i play it, i want to be a better person -- someone that little kid in the early 2000s, watching their dad play that game, would be proud of. Thanks for this remix. It upheld the soul of the soundtrack and gave it a little something new too. Fans of IX all know how special this game is, even if it seemingly always lies a little underappreciated. We know what it's all about.

PS this is (in my opinion)the last FF game where square soft, which later became square enix and made the other FFs, actually took pride in creating a beautiful game (graphics AND story AND real open world fun) and not just something aesthetically pleasing.
Honestly man I'm just glad you connected with it - this music is all about the nostalgia for me and it's always great to hear from people that share it. Don't sweat the money, this is just a fun hobby for me that I'm glad a few other people get a kick out of.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Final Fantasy IX has painted me a childhood where theatre performance was considered the highest form of entertainment, colorful characters and a music OST that has set a standard for all VGMs.

Thank you so much for creating this. The old Squaresoft logo on a CRT with scanlines dropkicked me all the way back to the summer of 2000... hard to believe that it's been 24 years...
I swear I'm getting more interested in playing this game off of this soundtrack alone Return is incredible, these whole 24 minutes are amazing, I love you
Yeah when I was putting that clip together I was like "ok let me walk through the door here anddd looks like that was the entire zone." Forgot how tiny it was.
This is once again an amazing thing you've brought to us all. I honestly loved this game without even having ever played it. I once saw footage for this game on G4 as a small kid (if only G4 were still around...) and falling in love with the Final Fantasy series since, but never figuring out where the clips were from. I just remember a smiling girl in a White Mage robe, being blown about in the wind, castles in the distance as a floating pirate ship went past, and several amazing forms of Magic in use, spreading before my eyes... ...yet now I feel as if I remember, and I know. The Princess, Garnet, wanted only to escape her boring life, people launching rays of Magic into strange new beasts, the shining, golden eyes of a Black Mage child... And memories of sitting in my parents' room alone without permission to watch their TV, yet to discover much more...they all came surging back. ...Thank you.
Your videos helped me out a lot when I felt lost and alone and just kinda worthless. I have a lot that is expected of me by a lot of people now and I don't have the luxury of being comforted by the games which kept me company in my youth while I was pretty much just by myself for all intents and purposes. These characters and stories are like the friends I had but never got to claim because they aren't "real". These memories that you've so succinctly captured allow me the ability to go back and comfort my younger self in a way, like from the future, you know? I may just be reading too much into all this but I kinda feel like that's part of what the whole point of vaporwave is and you capture that brilliantly with your work. From the bottom of my heart I thank you, Lzls.
I'm glad they could help a bit. Vaporwave to me, listening to it and making it, has always been a way to reconnect with the past and relive those memories. I know a lot of people who listen have FF games as an integral part of their childhood and it's so cool to me to hear everyone's stories and how the video brought something back to them.
What an excellent birthday gift. I remember commenting sometime last year how criminal it was that there weren't any Final Fantasy x LoFi tracks. I would've taken songs from any game because of the nostalgic quality of them and how excellent the melodies are, and here you've gone and done my favorite tracks from my favorite game. I'm tearing up it's so beautiful. Thank you so much.
Ohhhh!!! Estoy impresionado realmente, conmovido, agradecido.
The way it’s arranged should be in my skill level haven’t played music in 7+ years but these soothing final fantasy mixes inspired me to pick it up again
Straight up brought me back to the first time my brother and I played this game . His favorite Final Fantasy game and possibly the best orchestrated Ueamatsu score from the PS1 FF games. Thank you.
@@lzls4379 Yeah! I fell in love with this game almost instantly when I first played it. I own three copies of the game, and I'm replaying it on my switch! You've made me a nostalgic person today :)
I don't know if it's because it was my first Final Fantasy, but it sure is my favorite one. I fell in love with the musics and the general ambiance of this one. u did a great job kipping the general tune and giving them something truly fresh. I'm now more in love with the soundtrack u came up with. Once a gain, thanks bud.
Glad you liked it man. Everyone has their own connection to the music from these games and i always like hearing about it because that's why i enjoy making it. Its a fresh way to get at that nostalgia.
I'm back to listen to this again, scrolling through the comments and realized that you've had scores of people tell you how this is absolutely fantastic Music and you're amazing which is true but I want to also deeply applaud your video composition.
You deserve a Grammy for this. Tremendous
You picked really fitting tracks for this one! Great work!
something about that last song is just so bittersweet
I'm glad there was no doubt I would find someone doing a FFIX version, thanks mate
My fav game finally gets the lo-fi treatment ♥ This is really a great mix, I bet it was hard but you really did it well imo.
Oh... my heart... Think I might cry from the nostalgia and beauty of this
THIS. this is what I’m here for. thank you for your service.
The way it’s arranged should be in my skill level haven’t played music in 7+ years but these soothing final fantasy mixes inspired me to pick it up again
So amazing. It feels like you entered an underwater version of reality and you’re stuck with the ff ix ost in your head
This is amazing, you really are talented. You deserve so much more! Wishing you tons of luck. :)
Straight up brought me back to the first time my brother and I played this game . His favorite Final Fantasy game and possibly the best orchestrated Ueamatsu score from the PS1 FF games. Thank you.
Return❤️💓💖 listened to it atleast 10 times in a row, this game needs a remake with this remixed playlist
I just fell in love with this version of Not Alone
Beautiful. Such an amazing game. Thank you for making this.
I THINK I SERIOUSLY NEED MORE OF THIS
So happy I can cry oh man, thank you! Needed this after I listened to your FFVII one
After listening to your FF7 Vapor mix, it was only natural that I listened to one for my favorite video game!
Thanks! Honestly had no idea how many FF9 fans there were out there. Feel like half the comments are about how it's everyone's favorite.
@@lzls4379 Yeah! I fell in love with this game almost instantly when I first played it. I own three copies of the game, and I'm replaying it on my switch! You've made me a nostalgic person today :)
One of my favorite final fantasy games! Nice one!!!!
This mix inspired me to make music again. Thanks for positivity

I love how well done this is, FF9 is my fave FF soundtrack and my fave FF so this is wonderful
Wanted something like this for FFIX for a long time. Thank you
