I've learned that the reason why it looks like we shed way more hair after removing braids is because all the hair that was supposed to fall daily is actually trapped and can't fall anywhere until you unravel the braids. So, since you kept your braids for 2 weeks, you have 2 weeks worth of shed hairs. For the people that leave it for 2 months, the amount of shed hairs is even bigger. I actually got relieved when I found out about this because I too used to be scared about my shedding.
Yeeessssss sis that just happened with me. I got my hair done literally the beginning of this year and I just took it out a week ago and my hair was knotted like crazy almost all through my hair but I managed to get it out without cutting my hair but I just don't understand the shredding like why does it happen with us females when we get our hair done. if we leave it in for a month or for a little bit longer or we take it out just in time what is up with the shredding of the hair like I was always told it that's new growth and that's okay but at times you can just get a little worried cuz even when looking at this video she did have a lot of shredding in her hair
@@elwilliams2801 when you say shredding do you mean shedding? Because everyone's hair sheds around 50-100 strands every day. This still happens when you're in a protective style but all that hair has nowhere to go until you take it out, hence why so much hair comes out after taking down a protective style.
@@Lisa-_-M yes my apologies I meant to say shedding. I understand now but does that also mean new growth that grows in or it's just the simple fact that it shed's?
@@elwilliams2801 New growth is just pre-existing strands growing longer, it refers to the extra inches of hair coming through, not actual new strands of hair (this means hair is newer at the scalp and the rest of the strand is old hair). All your strands grow so they all have new growth and any of these strands can shed (from scalp to end/tip, the whole thing just falls off like a noodle)
So what I always tell ppl is that we lose about 100 strands of hair a day, so when we have our hair in braids for a month or 2 we shed all that hair when we take the braids down.
There is special clarifying shampoo you can use when your hair is braided. A nozzle spreads the cleanser onto the scalp and washes away the gunk without compromising the braids. Pattern Beauty has one, I think. I have no use for this knowledge but I thought I’d spread the word for those who would have a use lol.
i’ve been watching you for yearsss and one thing that’s always fascinated me was your hair texture cuz i always found it very unique and i’ve never seen anyone else with it even tho people do
I had mini twists in for 4 month(retwisting every 2 weeks on wash day with little shed hair),then converted them to micro braids for almost 5 months(with lots of shed hair at the end). When I finally got the braids out,I had the same look of relief you had at the end.😊 I love how gorgeous and healthy your hair looks. Thanks for sharing.👍 Please do share the next suggested video,I look forward to it.
It just depends on hair texture, time and money. Her hair is a looser texture so it won’t stay in for as long, my hair is type 4 and I don’t get dirt or buildup until around 1.5 months. Also if you don’t have time to do your hair you might keep them in longer. Same with money, if you paid a lot of you can’t afford to get your hair done again you might keep them in
@@xorayne_ Exactly. It depends. After paying over $100 to get braids who is taking that out after just two weeks? Waste of your money if you do that. I usually keep my braids in for 2 months MINIMUM. I also don't see dirt and build up until like 1 month- 1.5 months in. My braids can look good for up to two months so that's what works for me. Everyone is different.
@@covegirl06 I don't because that would make the hair start to fray and look stale quickly. My scalp does not have s flaking issue at all. I just oil my scalp to keep it from getting dry and I'm good to go honestly.
Personally I do them myself so I don't feel like I'm wasting my money or anybody's time 🤷🏾♀️ to each their own. You have to do what works for your hair. More than 3 weeks just isn't for me
Your hair actually looked nice when you removed the braids. I liked the waves they created. Great vid Amber, always a pleasure watching your videos. I always look forward to watching them 😊 ❤

What were you applying to your braids before taking them down (moisturizer? hairbutter/cream? Hair oil?)? Not sure the stylist used a lot a product to have caused those build ups. Please let's know.
My Dearest Amber, You can take your braids off whenever you want but omg you left them in two weeks. Whenever you get braids, please buy Kanekelon hair that is rinsed. If you cannot find it, rinse the hair in lukewarm water with vinegar and it will remove the chemicals. The chemicals in the hair cause allergic reactions and the annoying itching. Ilove you sis and please look to videos on RUclips with tutorials on this.
3:25 I SEE the purple African sponge, sis yassss that’s all I wash my body with! Exfoliate everything. Oh plus the one from target for my last wash. It picks up whatever the sponge leaves behind. 😩 I love showering
I keep mine in for a month. I do my own hair so no money wasted. I dance 14-16 hours a week and work in a warehouse. The build up doesn’t take long to make its appearance 😅😅
It's so weird that when I use hair extension for braids I get alot of build up but if I just use my natural hair, it doesn't get that bad. And I use the same products and process. I wonder why.
@@AmberAnsah I was really shocked myself how much buildup that was for 2 weeks. Some people can actually wash their hair in the braids and that's how they can keep them in for an extended period without smelling, or alot of build up like you experienced. Is your scalp reacting to the braid or something? I'd really like to know why that is as well.
@@sashaaimey someone in another comment said the chemicals they use to process the hair can cause that buildup. I noticed the same thing with me, I never get buildup like that with just my natural hair but I definitely do with braids. Maybe it’s the way the hair is processed
Ok just curious question (i had braids only once, so everything is still new to me) all of that dirt on the hair, you had it even if you washed the braids? Or you went two weeks without washing to preserve the braids? Anyway I totally understand you, I went three weeks, it was just too heavy for me 😅
I just took my braids down to an I had them for almost 3 weeks an surprisingly I had no visible build up an my hair was still soft. I took it down an not ready to wash till tomorrow so I put my hair in twists in the meantime. I used a oil spray for my roots when it was braided so maybe that’s why but look good.
Your hair is beautiful 😍 Everyone hair & scalp is different. It could've been the gel/edge control she used. I've kept braids in for 2-3 months & didn't have that amount of buildup.
Our hair sheds all the time so the shedding you get when you detangle after taking out braids or any protective hair style is just the hair that couldn’t fall out and was trapped in the hairstyle.
Your hair is beautiful!💐🌹 I keep my twist in forever. But I was it at four weeks then spend the next few days redoing each one, combing out, moisturize, put back in. So technically I do take them out but I put them back in. 🤦🤦🤦🌹💐
That's why i can't get boxed braids because in 2 weeks my scalp will start flaking/itching and if i keep washing my hair first off the braids take forever to dry but also my roots be all fuzzy. No itch product actually works and the only thing to do is wash my hair to get the build off to keep itch away.
