    I've just watched all your videos and they are excellent.
    You're right: there isn't anything else occupying the space between scratch-bashing and ultra-expensive mega builds. Personally, I want the look of a GW-only table because I love the aesthetic and their kits but, like you've pointed out, they're impossibly expensive, they actually limit you in all sorts of ways, and they often don't work all that well. Plus so many channels resort to mdf kits and 3D printing which isn't my jam. So I am your target audience (plus, I also remember card scenery, and I also got a letter printed in White Dwarf back in the day, so we could be brothers).
    Talking of brothers, are you related to RPArchive, because your channel is like its 40K twin. Gentle, northern bent; perfectly manicured nails; impossibly neat house; incredibly comprehensive advice and instructions; original project ideas; OCD-friendly; slightly bossy and judgey in tone; professional video production; slightly clinical, but totally stunning results; and uplifting and inspirational (as much as brits ever can be).
    Bravo, sir. Subscribed, and really looking forward to seeing more videos from you.

      🤣 it’s almost like listening to myself! Yeah, this channel came from my frustration on “bags of money” mega builds and even painting styles that I couldn’t replicate.
      I don’t know RParchive but I’ll check it out. I do have a brother but he’s not on RUclips even though he’s probably a better painter than me.
      Oh and thanks for mentioning the nails. I did find myself looking at them before filming and just thinking “nope! Where my modelling files”.
      Please do send it to others like us. It’s slow going on the old RUclips!!

    My group doesn’t play Necromunda but we play Killteam all the time. I think I’m going to use this technique to build my own big oceanic oil rig game board instead of buying the new Killteam Salvation box set when it comes out later this year.
    Thank you for the inspiration to do something cooler and cheaper than what GW is releasing.
    Thank you for being so thorough with all your tutorials, you are my absolute favorite terrain maker on RUclips!

      You’re welcome and oh man, a water/ocean table done like this would be cool! You can also get a big sheet of plexiglass to lay over any printouts.

    Absolutely love this! Very effective and even gives a bit of a nostalgia vibe,
    it'd work wonderfully alongside the old cardstock Necromunda and 40k terrain too.
    I used to love making papercraft terrain for wargaming and RPGs,
    was a big fan of Dave Graffam Models and World Works Games for a long time.
    Thank you for another fun and inspirational video, take care ;)

      @thestateofplay2023  Год назад +2

      Yeah, I agree. I think the old school paper stock method just got replaced with 3D prints. But it’s still a completely amazing way to make terrain.

  • @davidelrizzo

    Great video. There is a lot you can do with a regular (good quality) printer. Hell, most of the 90's GW terrain was all printed cardboard!
    An alternative to manually sticking plastic sheets to the paper is to laminate it. Has the exact same effect and sticks in one go and can then be cut to size and shape. A4 laminators are quite cheap

    • @thestateofplay2023

    Looks absolutely amazing! For even more faux-3d you could paint ripples/patches on the underside of the acetate (that lies on the paper) and it would add another layer of depth without removing the glossiness.

    Have you tried to ink jet print onto vinyl printable sticker paper then apply a self adhesive laminating sheet on top (this is how we maker stickers). The laminated vinyl can then be stuck down to thin mdf sheets or the like.

    I think a GW ZM tile made into a pool could look awesome? One you use soemtimes not always... I know how expensive this is but it could look gorgeous? Likea "oil spill"/pool onto a real tile

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  10 месяцев назад

      I agree that would look great! I’m a big fan of things I can move around and make into multiple different things.
      I reckon one of those shifter chameleon paints would work as an oil spill to give that oil shimmer.

    How do you varnish without hitting the acetate on the smaller modular squares? Are they glued in last?

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  6 месяцев назад +1

      Varnish the bits first. Glue last. Although the rust spray doesn’t need varnish. It’s outdoor graffiti spray so is super resilient.

      The problem I found with the acetate is not a lot of stuff sticks to it. Most stuff peels off. 🤔
