Missed a key part about planning the routing: You have to be able to open your doors still. Make sure you cross your doors and trunk by the hinge line, otherwise you can't open the door.
The Entry and exit on the door panel would be to use the wire between the bulb and use the top part and bottom part of your door. Use the upper part to go on the roof of the car and so on. It will take a of time applying the tape. I haven't done it yet because I am working on finding a tape to use that can last for a few weeks without getting loose from the cold air in NYC. Any warmer places, masking tape will last. Don't forget to wash your car before
what tape would you recommend so it doesn’t ruin your paint? i have a new car and wanna do this so bad, but i dont wanna ruin my paint. i already have a part chipped in the back finder 🤦🏼♀️
Tape won't ruin pain that is already in good condition. Standard masking tape might leave some residue depending on how long you keep it on, but that comes off with adhesive remover. You might have to buff your paint once your are done, that is something we planned to do before we even started.
Im glad I saw this because I almost pulled the trigger on a few sets of weak lights that were a lot smaller (battery powered). I also have a another idea for the power source, if you have one of those jumper packs with a standard outlet you could secure that in the trunk and close the trunk on the wires provided the trunk doesn't make cable pinching super tight seal
More so I think they wanted to see you connecting the inverter since you ended up showing a power strip in the video. Its sloppy, there are tons of ways to power these and you didn’t use what you said you had
All I need to know is what kind of tape to use for NYC cold weather. Won't have the lights on very long, about 2.5 weeks I'm going to use a Solar Powered 20000ma Portable Charger
I did this on my evo but I regret using painters blue tape because you could see it all over the place he just looks like a bunch of random tape everywhere and my lights were straights
Its going to be really tough to get everything to open properly. The key is to, not wrap across the backside of the door. You need to zig the string of lights back and forth on the door. Try to only cross the front/hinge side of the door in 1 spot and leave some slack for the door to open.
for the doors let them cross the panel on the side that opens with the least amount of gap. the side by the hinges. look at each section of the car. i went braindead figuring it out tonight while putting lights on our car. also, buy WAY more lights than you think you’ll need. hood/trunk we’re not opening.
Thats the tricky part. You need to plan your light routing so it doesn't go over the aft side of the door to allow it to open. Zig Zag the lights back and forth on the door you want to open, but don't cross the gap to the B pillar/rear door/quarter panel.
We just got generic rolls of LED Christmas lights from a home improvement store. (Menards, Home Depot, Lowes, Etc.) You would need at least 600ft, but could use more.
We talked with our local police department and as long as we were not displaying blue lights in a flashing motion we were ok, but check your local traffic laws.
@@laurol4342 having certain colored lights on your vehicle can be a legal issue because depending on the color your car can be mistaken for a police vehicle

Seeing this more and more. It's fun, but encouraging the masses to do this seems like a bad idea. Already enough distracted drivers out there. Has to be a better way than the masking tape. Looks cool at night though, no doubt.
Not to mention how dumb it is to plug that many lights into a power strip and then into your cigarette lighter in your car, get a inverter that actually hooks to your battery
I just saw a Christmas light car on my way to work this evening. I cannot express how happy it made me feel...
Spread the joy!

I saw one today. It was beautiful. It just made my day. It looked just like this one
I saw one this week and now I’m determined for next year can’t wait
How do you power it though? Where do you plug it into?
12v socket converter
110v to 12v Inverter. Plugged in by the dash.

Thinking of using zip ties in certain areas instead of tape, or just tape on the plastic parts Any other ideas?
That works. We used zip ties in our newest Christmas light wrap which will be coming out soon.
Use painter’s tape
Is it going to put scratches all over the truck/damage the paint with the bulbs rubbing against the vehicle moving in the wind?😢
Use plastic bulbs, make sure the strings of lights are taped down. Plan to buff the car when you are done.
Im glad I saw this because I almost pulled the trigger on a few sets of weak lights that were a lot smaller (battery powered).

what christmas lights did you use? this looks amazing and Im planning on doing it to my 2018 mustang. thank you guys for showing :)
We bought spools of lights at Menards. Not sure of the brand, but they are 150ft rolls.
When you say dont leave the tape on for long... How long would you consider long? Everyday use in the Florida sun from now until NYE? A month?
Conditions vary all around the country. We knew we would have to buff the paint when we were done.
Just use painter’s tape
Wasn’t helpful at all
Lmfao right?! These guys are Ina shop. Think they’d come up with something a little more creative and functional 😂🤦♂️
Get Lights. Tape lights to car. Plug in lights.
More so I think they wanted to see you connecting the inverter since you ended up showing a power strip in the video. Its sloppy, there are tons of ways to power these and you didn’t use what you said you had
It's literally so straight forward are you old?
Sorry my mistake...Get lights. Tape lights to car. Plug in lights to powerstrip. Plug in powerstrip to inverter.
is it legal to do so?
Are you in stl. Just saw a white mustang with lights all over drive by. Very cool if that was you.
How do you get in and out the car I love this look have s550 also
Well I know this is a S650 though just wondering?
You need to plan out your lights. We only crossed string of lights at the door gap up by the hinge. This way it allows the door to open up.
Just did it last night to my m6 looks hella cool *edit don't do this know your local laws first I just got pulled over for the lights*
oh no! did you get a ticket?
It’s illegal in all states except Florida

I’m planning to do this but my converter connects to my battery. Guess I’ll have yo start from under the hood
wait so how many feet of lights did you guys use i’m trying to do my jeep wrangler
This was 800 feet.
A 75W inverter is enough to power up the lights ?
Should be, as long as its LED lights.
How many feet of lights did you guys end up using
This was 1600 feet.
They replied to another comment saying it was 800ft. So i wound trust them

How bad did the paint get? Did the lights scratch the clear

Haven't found 1 video yet on placement around doors and trunks etc, so everything opens properly and all the way

I used masking tape as well, but I’m nervous to get on a 80mph highway, ik I have no issues at like 50 but worried it might rip off at 80
let us know how it goes!

yeah that’s my problem too. Just bought some but don’t want to do it yet because i go 90+ on the highway ever morning and night for work😂😂
How do you cover the doors and still be able to open and close them
Zig zag it back and forth on the door. Think about each panel. Don't go the full length of the vehicle.
If you do it at the door’s hinge, leave a bit of slack then you’ll be fine
I absolutely LOVE this!
Thanks for watching!
Are we evolving backwards lol this video was enough and straight to the point on what to do? What more do yall want? 😂
THANK YOU!
How did u wrap it so u can get into the door or around the door so it can open
Zig Zag the lights back and forth so it doesn't cross the door panel gap.
@@MiddletonMotorsports should've included that in the video, what does that look like?
So do i need to buy a regular plug to cig lighter adapter? Was buying govee christmas but has regular wall plug
Yes, unless your car has an outlet inside the vehicle, get a 12v to 110v inverter.
Hi! I'm from Brazil, I wanted to know how many meters I need for a camry?
200-300 Meters of lights at a minimum. The more the better.
Now I just need a dark horse.😂🎄 Thanks for the video!! Can’t wait to wrap Hubby’s Camry.

I saw one in Watsonville California last night. The exact same car so not sure if the same one but, will it last freeway speeds of 75mph and rain?
That wasn't us. But its great to see we are reaching all the way to California! I think 75 mph could work if your tape holds up.
Thanks for the inspiration ❤ Merry Christmas 🎄
You're welcome! Merry Christmas to you too!
where do you plug it in the car to turn on the lights
We used a 110v to 12v inverter.
how did you make it so you could still use the car hinges, like the doors, hood, trunk, etc. how did you wrap it so you could still open the doors
Thanks for watching You need to be strategic in your light placement. We didn't plan to open hood or trunk.

Looks cool and I want to do it but what about scratching the paint?
We planned to buff the paint after doing the Christmas lights before we even started. Darker colors will show more scratches than lighter paint.
YOLO
As for the doors how did u open them with those lights there?
I did this last year… u don’t 😂😂

wouldnt it scratch the paint, ppl on insta is saying they scratched their paint doing this
Yes, but not deep. You need to buff the car after you are done.
Good buff will take those scratches out
Will this scratch the paint?
You will most likely get some swirling paint scratches. Plan to buff after doing this. Especially with a dark colored car.
How many feet of Christmas lights I need for my challenger widebody and what’s the name of the lights yall go with

Does it ruin your paint?
Thanks for watching! Depends on how secure you have the lights. Don't use glass bulbs and be prepared to buff your vehicle when you are done.
Came to this video because I saw a car decorated like this last night going down the highway.
How’d you get in the car?
Zig zagged the lights so it didn't cross the gap to the rear quarter panel.
How do you plug it in to the car tho?
You would habe to buy a 12v to 120v inverter, definitely try to get a nice 500 watt one if you can.
12v to 110v Invertor. Then a power strip. All LED so it doesnt draw very much.
How many strands did you use?

Is 500 ft enough
It wont be as bright or as filled in as this. All depends on your vehicle size!
How did u get in your car
Thanks for watching. We routed the lights so the driver door would still open.
Idek if my 23 is500 will pull enough power out. Can’t even charge my laptop with the same type of cig plug 🥲
Laptops use a ton of watts (70w). A string of LED christmas lights use 5w. Give it shot!
Use an inverter
Regular masking tape ? Or automotive masking tape ?
We used regular masking tape, just dont leave it on super long.
@ your Dark Horse looked awesome! Thanks a lot.

masking tape isn't going to hold for long. it'll come off first time it rains
Saw a follow-up video where the lights scratched up the entire car from the wind, making the lights vibrate against the clearcoat.

You could use a darker color tape. Electrical tape or a duct tape. You will have to buff the vehicle when you are done if you care about the paint.
