The Diabolic Variant was a man-made monstrosity created by Shinra's Research & Development Division, headed by Professor Hojo. It was disposed of due to its cannibalistic nature, but some of the specimens escaped and underwent unique evolution in the depths of Shinra Manor in Nibelheim.
With Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie in the fighting team, I knew in an instant that this was going to be a fun fight.
The Diabolic Variant will clone itself once it receives enough damage. It will also unleash an expansive fume that will inflict Poison on the party. My advice: stick to one target first, and use Ice Magic and Yuffie's Ice Ninjutsu to exploit its weakness.
Eventually, the clones will become a nuisance, and you can call forth a Summon-in my case, Phoenix-to help out. Keep fighting, as the Diabolic Variant and its clones all have congruent HP. Just make sure your party survives the encounter.
