The Most Dangerous Race In The World

- This is the most dangerous race on Earth. And many people are calling for it to be banned. But if the racers themselves have defended this race for over a hundred years, is the danger just a necessary evil?
No footage of fatal incidents is shown in this video. This is an educational documentary on the professional racing at the Isle of Man TT

As a sport bike rider, the isle of man is quite literally the pinnacle of sport bike racing. You have to be the best of the best to even have a chance of surviving even participating. I had the incredible honor to try the road during their open public road use a few days before official races started. I could never get to even the surface of how fast these racers get. But simply getting to put 2 wheels on this legendary surface is an incredible honor
Sure bud.
It's the pinnacle of racing.

-There are officials and volunteers willing to run it and run it as safely as it can be
-There are riders willing or wanting to compete in the race
Then no-one elses opinion really matters.
100%.
That's right!
I guess they won't ever reduce the power limit anymore:/ All they can really add is safer barriers like Formula 1 and NASA air bags in the race suits.
agree AND
I think it is stupid to censor this, any real racing lover would agree.
There was a large and growing movement among Island residents to ban the TT before COVID because the road closures made getting to and fro difficult. Two years without 50% of their usual GNP quieted that right down!
These racers should absolutely have the chance to race the TT. They know the risk. Just because you don't risk your body and limb to challenge yourself, doesn't mean that they should not. I love the magic that comes from breaking impossible records. It happens every year.
I went in 2014. It was a pilgrimage of sorts for road racing. This is what racing is as its core. Not scripted, not controlled. Just man and machine traversing a regular road surface and beating it. People die every second of every day. We all wish the competitors the safest , but when accidents happen, we accept it. It takes a different kind of mind set in today’s “ don’t do anything stupid” world. Not thrill seeking, just wanting to test your limits against the forces of the world.
I am hoping to go in 2024. Want to spend 2 months over there. Take in the Isle of Man TT, the Tour de France then the Open Championship.
I would like to make the trip. I'd like to go to Le Mans as well.
@@michaelward9880 Le Mans is different in that you are there but not as in the place as TT racing. If State side, I recommend Daytona. You get good pit passes and the 12 hrs is easier to get through. But just to be where Shelby beat Enzo on his home court would be a thrill.
Well put. Thrill seekers seek thrills. This race is just the pinnacle of that. The racers know about the chance of death going in. Part of the thrill.
I appreciate this mindset. Half of the appeal for racers is the danger and the thrill of conquering it, even if the risks are high. Nobody calls for K2 or Everest to be shut down, despite both killing MANY more people over the years.
Excellent educational video, thanks much from Colorado, USA. I retired my own Honda 750F 30 years ago and am alive because of that. I loved running canyon roads fast and not always safely. Yes my wife convinced me that our kids were worth stopping for. Bless her.
Kudos to you for listening to her!

Let riders race and spectators spectate at their own risk. If you think it's too unsafe, don't participate. Simple
Agree, it isn't part of any series and shouldn't to keep it truly free will participation.
Let's be honest, most people are too stupid to understand the risks
@@floob247 that's true of smoking, drinking, gambling, driving... Being alive generally? 😅
Anyone that participates in this event knows the risks, how could they not.
Freedom of choice is important & shouldn’t be taken away.
@@everyhandletaken I bet most people aren't aware of how many have actually died here. In the crash videos there are thousands of people in the kill zone. You get lulled into a false sense of security by standing in a crowd and at any time a motorcycle can hit a rock and fly 200+ at you. Thought you were safe sitting on the hill? Not anymore.
In my opinion they should bring back Group B Rally and get rid of this mess. Much safer and much more fun to watch.
One of my bucket list dreams to go to the Isle of Mann TT ! 😀
It's like Mecca is to Muslims every biker should go there at least once in there lives
Start looking for a room in Douglas on booking sites around January each year. That’s when people start canceling their bookings. Once you’ve got a place to stay, THEN start looking for a flight! Be aware that flights from the US and Canada will be overnight flights, getting to Europe the next day, Often, those flights will arrive in UK AFTER the last flight of the day to the Island, so you will have to stay overnight and take a morning flight, making it a 2 day trip. Same thing coming home, often i wind up with a late flight off the Island and spend a night in London or Manchester on the way home. Buy your flights as a package, it’s much cheaper than buying individual flights, and you can frequently get an excursion package that will give you a few days in London or Edinburgh or even Dublin. While you are at the TT, spend some time visiting other hotels and guesthouses and asking about NEXT year.
To quote Steve Parrish, 'Don't Die Wondering'.
Get on and visit the place just as soon as you can.

Netflix had a documentary based on the Dunlop brothers, named ROAD. Very interesting!! And as dangerous as it could be, The Isle of Man TT is for bikers what the Nurburgring is for car racers. Lots of drivers, maybe not as many, had lost their lives, but The Ring is everyone’s dream racetrack.

The ting is pretty amazing but not as good as was for bikers since Gran Turismo and top gear.
as a rider of over 30yrs, when I was a young man I dreamed of doing this. I still think it would be awesome to go and just ride the course on something classic at more sane speeds just to say I'd been there and ridden the line.
Man you got me hooked on the Isle of Man videos now. These races are unbelievably scenic yet I feel goosebumps watching!
They're so impressive! Motorcycle racing in general is such a brilliant sport, and the IOMTT really is a great showcase of some the best!
I’ve been involved in UK racing for 50 years. Racer, mechanic and sponsor. Over that time I’ve loved the TT and at the same time had mixed feelings. I worked as a race mechanic for four years and was relieved when the guy I worked for declined an invite. Last year was a bad one. 6 not 5 deaths. A Dutch guy died of his injuries last month (October). As always it shocks me but it’s always been a part of the sport. TT or short circuit. Great video. As a lover of bike racing I found this really entertaining and accurate although some of your footage wasn’t from the TT. Subscribed and liked.
This race is the final motorsport where you know serious injury or death is lurking in the background. It is truly the last test of how far you will push for greatness knowing what could happen. In this bubble wrap world its intriguing to watch the brave riders put it all on the line, and that's why this race has a growing following. Long live the TT.
Rallying still has that danger, there's at least 3 or 4 deaths.a year
Wonder haw many people would go to listen to a politician talking a load of crap????
Moto cross, Enduro cross.
Thank you so much for putting such a great well documented video together about the TT races. You are correct about everything that you have said about the TT races. I know with everything in life there is always a flipside, but people will always want to do it. The races will continue for the foreseeable future.
The danger behind the tt is what draws so many to it. Nothing but huge respect to the drivers that enter this race every year
Absolutely! Truly the bravest in racing!

Yup. Its what always attracted people to motorsport. It's sad when people die, obviously but you have to think how many million people are made happy by it.

To those of us who live on the island, through the winter months like now it’s pretty quiet, nothing really happens. To see the atmosphere and island come alive at TT and MGP is something else
Leave the TT alone, the riders love it and choose to be there.. the fans love it, and choose to be there.. The risks and dangers are very well known.. but they all choose to be there.
An excellent commentary, factual, interesting and informative, presented without stage hype and emotion. Well done!
I go to TT Race Week every year, and you’ve done a wonderful job posing the questions I’ve been asking myself since I watched the 4 ambulances coming around Quarterbridge Corner and slowly making their way down Peel Rd toward the Braddan traffic circle on that gut-wrenching Friday afternoon this past June 10th.
Great video, and, unlike many others, highly accurate in the facts stated. Unfortunately, like many others, you have, for inexplicable reasons, included footage from races that are NOT the TT! There’s footage of the Northern 200, Donington Park, and perhaps others in there! There are thousands of hours of excellent footage from the TT itself, why on Earth would you include footage of other races in a video specifically about the TT? Would you include footage of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona in a video about American Independance Day celebrations?
You can die anywhere. TT legend Mike Hailwood was killed in a car crash near his home when he went to get a Fish and Chip supper for his family.
He included other footage because he has no idea what he is talking about. Why is he not talking about the hundreds of young drivers killed on our roads every year??
In 2009 I was working in I.O.M and spent time watching it from the side of the road and it truly is one of the best events I've ever seen, absolutely mind blowing, highly recommended even if you are not a biker like myself.

The racers aren't insane they're the opposite. If a madman did this they would be killed before they passed Bray Hill. Even normal people couldn't do it. These people are some of the most skilled and talented people on earth. Calling them insane is disrespectful.
Great video though you clearly done your research.
You have to be a little bit mad to do this.
This will never be banned, first year on the island and I loved it🔥🔥🔥
I've been and witnessed this race twice in my life I've never ridden in it but I can tell you now the people that race the bikes consider the Isle of Man TT has the Holy Grail of motorbike racing it is the whole raising they got into riding bikes is to be able to do what they can do in this race it's scary just watching them but I must say I felt like I was watching something special the first time I went to watch this was the same year guy Martin done the Legendary lap it was an honour to be there that year
I'll never get there in person, so I watch videos. I see riders doing things on a motorcycle, at speeds I can't fathom, going completely airborne, and recovering from the "woobles"! These guys are insane!
You said it - this isn't a race for ordinary people, it's for extraordinary racers!
I was very impressed with your history lesson on the IOMTT. Motorcycles from 3 and a half hours in 1910's to 10 minutes present around the Isle. I attended the IOMTT in 2019 and was such a memory I'll never forget. Dublin, London the the race. Since then I've seen 2, 2022 MotoGp races, Austin Texas and then Sachsenring Germany. In a month I'm going back to Austin for the GP race and a month after that I'm back to Ireland, Renting a BMW R1200 and going clockwise around Ireland, than the IOMTT race then home. Ride to live, Live to ride.

In the tt you know there is no room for error ,its nerve racking, one has to put the best they got, and nothing is more pleasurable than watching these men with nerves of steel ,putting both man and machines to their limit, its simply amazing, its a race that will surely be missed when banned
I do like the history fact of your content. But I have several questions..
Have you attended the meeting?
Have you spoken to any of the riders ? It is the ultimate test of man and machine.. they all know the risk involved and all the fans truly appreciate them for the spectacular event that they provide year after year .. get the ferry and watch it in person 👍
When you have steel balls the size of a wreckingball, you need a place to let those puppies loose . So this is the event to let them dangle freely going 135mph.
So no, never ever stop this TT it's been there from 1907. Why stop now.
I love the fact that there's still a place where me can challenge themselves at the very limits. The world would be a sad place if there was no Isle of Man TT!
A lot of the clips you used are not actually of the IOM TT but the equally dangerous Northern Ireland real road races such as the North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix - the worlds fastest road race. Please acknowledge and give credit to these amazing races. Some would say these races are better than the TT as they are bike on bike action and not time trials like the TT
Using bogus footage like so many others who falsely represent the event.
Guys, there is a limited supply of actual footage and no budget for actual archival research (which is insanely expensive). This is a piece of entertainment - not a documentary. Just enjoy the old films and don't get prissy over the details.
The best explanation I have ever heard about the TT. Well done Sir
The amount of respect for any human being that holds a throttle wide open on any vehicle through a public road that they don't know anything about is only beaten by the Men and Women that fight for their home and family in any country not just the US. May God be with all of you, stay safe

Excellent presentation of the LEGENDARY TT RACES.
Btw, the TT is an exceptionally technical complicated course, way more than a short circuit. There are no banked corners or run off areas. There is approximately over 200 corner on the course, all very individual and require a different technique and racing line through each one. All defects in the road surface [ the TT course is all on public roads] has to be memorised as do each and every entry point, braking marker [tree, man hole etc] the apex and every exit point for each and every corner. The direction of the wind over the mountain has to be factored in, where safe overtaking points are. The skill needed to know how the gearing needs to be set up for the course including suspension set up, fuelling and ignition timing all have to be expertly set up for our mountain course. A totally different set up for any road racing they do in Ireland or Estonia for example and then there are different setups needed for all the various short circuits they race at. This is all highly skilled stuff done by very intelligent riders and pit crew if they have one. The riders have to plan a strategy for each race. It’s such a long course therefore takes great skill to remember everything riding flat out everywhere. I’ve lived here for donkey’s years and own a few bikes and I’ve still not memorised the course despite being able to ride anytime I like except during the races. These riders are the polar opposite to stupid.
I raced in the TT in the 90s its truly terrifying and amazing at the same time.
It is the pinnacle for any rider.
What was the gain risk to reward?

There is only one mistake at 8:25, this crash wasn't in Isle of Man, it was in UlsterGP, other road race.
As an Amateur motorcycle enthusiast, I understand the risks. I understand and empathize with the families who have lost loved ones, and I can fully understand that money should not be a part of the discussions of safety. But ignoring all others, the politicians, the organizers, the spectators, etc, if the race is something the racers are willing to risk their lives for, for the pursuit of glory and the experience of a lifetime, then everyone else has no say in it. The Isle of Man should continue for as long as there are racers and fans willing to participate.
I haven’t been to the TT But grew up in Northern Ireland and lived in Portrush the town that hosts the NW 200 which Is the same race same riders same dangers. It’s though three towns. Portrush portstewart and Colerane I use to stand on the main road and watch bikes go by at 190+ MPH in the 80s which was sick speeds. There is nothing like it watching these road races. Your adrenaline is so high just watching these bikes go by just a few feet from you at such a high speed and the sound is so loud but you love every second of it. Watching the NW 200 every year was my favorite time of the year. I did see one of the riders get killed right in from of me in 83 and I had just gotten his autograph less then two hours earlier that day. His front wheel hit the bike in front of his back wheel I remember seeing him go up in the air as high as a telephone pole and it was like in slow motion. I still think about it all the time. Very sad but these guys live for this and these guy are some of the very few that are doing something billions wouldn’t dare do. It’s horrible all the deaths but these guys know what they signed up for and are willing to die for the chance to win a TT race or a NW 200 race. You really have to experience one there’s nothing else like it in the world. I highly recommend it.
