Thank you for all of your support! Your comments mean so much to me, and I am so glad that you enjoyed this video. When I posted it, I even thought “I can’t wait to see what Michael says about this one!” 😂
So many beautiful works of art, as well as some mind-boggling roughs from around the world. Seeing this video is inspiring for me as an amateur jade carver. I seem to be the only one (that I know of in Southern Ontario) who has taken on the task to carve jade. It has a nice "centering" for me... I want to learn more about techniques so I can improve my carvings (like most other jade carvers, it seems we are all self taught). Hopefully I can source some jade rough not just from BC. Very interested in how other types of jade are to work with. Thanks for posting this JOTT.
Kirk Brock of Rock Solid Jade I finally found your video of the Monterey Jade Festival nice job I remember you coming by and having a chat with hope to see you again take care
Thanks for showing the event!! I sent some jade axes for the exhibition but I couln't addend myself because I live in Sweden. Awesome to see what it looked like.
Wish you could’ve made it to the event! I was very impressed with your work, and I know Mike and Justin were really hyped to show it off! Hope you can make it next year, I look forward to seeing more of your art
Thanks for including a brief image of my pendant in the carving competition. I received a silver for this Big Sur jade. The design is my own. I only carve pieces of my own design. I can only carve a few pieces a year. So, I am not well known.
Anyone thinking of going defs should, the downtown strip and pier right next to this plaza had amazing food (crab, fried artichoke, turkish coffee) and beautiful nature just up the street, everyone at the show was super zen. It was such a great show, I bought those maw sitsit beads, and one of the pipes at the start. Great seeing you and your husband too!
It was so awesome getting to meet you in person! Glad you got such cool finds, both of those things really caught my eye while I was there 🤩 And ooh fried artichoke, I need to get that next time!
I truly appreciate everyone's diligent work and knowledge. I love incorporating Jad💍💎👑📿e with pearls and sequence, simply glorious. Indonesian and Siberian Jades are lovey plus unique. I'd love to begin a collection from around the globe, thank 🤙you❗❕
Wow had no idea they had this in my birth state😮😢😂 makes sense as I left they would all of a sudden have a jade festival especially in my native northern California. Monterey back as I knew it was known as a coastal area ,with the Monterey aquarium being the highlight now I know there is a festival entirely dedicated to Jade, great❤
Great video! I am on Monterey local and have been going down to Jade Cove for years. I actually met Shane at Freshwater Jade this year and he is working on a piece for me right now 😁
That’s gonna be a stellar piece! Shane is great. We’ve bought multiple pieces from him, but my husband’s favorite is a nephrite bead bracelet featuring various origins of jade. Indonesian, Khotan, Siberian and more! It’s truly one of a kind.
Loved this...WOW, I had no idea this festival even existed...and I was born, raised, and still reside about an hour north from Monterey! I checked out their web site for the next festival - in June 2024 - but I can't see if you have to pay to enter...do you know, Jordan? Thank you...💗💗💗
@@JewelsoftheTrade Thanks so much, Jordan! I will try to go there in June...sooo excited to 'hopefully' meet Jesse Stout of Mayan Mountain...I've bought a lot from him...love his Jadeite!!! 💗💗💗
BRAVVVVVVVVVVVVVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, 🎐🪅🪔🧧BRAVVVVVVVVVVVVVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,🎈🎉🧨🎆 that was 💫🧚magical and 🌟✨spectacular, indeed❗❕I look forward to attending in the nearest future. I'm a Bay Area Chix, whom currently resides on Oahu🏖️🏝️, Hawaii.
Do you have any vendors you could point me too that have jade buddha pendants for sale? or other Jade pendants? in particular, I'm not looking for anything super high priced like imperial jade, just something that is real untreated jade, handcarved into a nice pendant. thanks so much!!
Howdy! It’s a three-day event spanning Fri.-Sun. This year, the festival was June 9-11 with the Exhibition only open Sat-Sun. Not sure if they have dates set for next year yet, but you can learn more at montereybayjadefestival.org/
Jade shoppers / sellers will often shine a penlight through cabochons, bangles, and rough to check for internal fractures, but it also demonstrates translucence and may give a closer-to-accurate display of what hue/color the jade will be once it’s cut.
@JewelsoftheTrade Hi, anybody whom you know would buy some rough jaideite and nephrite jades? I am from the Philippines and we have collections of Hugh quality jaideite and nephrite jade's. Some boulders weigh almost 40 kilos. Please, if you have some contacts of legit buyers kindly refer me for possible negotiations. Thank you.
Hi there! I am not entirely sure. There were a lot of vendors and a lot of product. If anyone is selling treated jade or a jade simulant there, it’s probably not intentional. But most companies don’t have internal testing services to guarantee their product like Mason-Kay does. If you’re interested in buying a piece from one of these sellers, you might asked them where they sourced it and how they can guarantee it’s authenticity. 😊 My husband and I have bought pieces from Yax Tun, Mayan Mountain, Freshwater Jade and Just In Jade (featured at MBFF) with confidence that their jade is genuine / natural. Hope that helps!
Thinking of planning a trip to the Monterey Bay Jade Festival next year? Let me know what types of jade you’re looking to buy in the comments!

@Wyoming Jade Life I tried looking for Jade content on your channel but, I only saw Colorado Gold. Do you have Jade videos?

The Indonesian jade is cool
Myanmar jade is the best in the world.

Why are people shining lights into and through jade? Is it to check for translucence?
Jade shoppers / sellers will often shine a penlight through cabochons, bangles, and rough to check for internal fractures, but it also demonstrates translucence and may give a closer-to-accurate display of what hue/color the jade will be once it’s cut.
@@JewelsoftheTrade Thanks!
Because it tickles the jade and makes it happy ;)

I have rough Jadeite Jade Type A from Indonesia, do you interested?
All jade in there are real right? There is no fake one in this kind of show?

Matt Glasby is the best look him up
I second this! 👏🏻 Matt Glasby is an incredible carver. His website, matthewglasby.com, features some of his work.
