My first job after leaving the US Army in '75 was as a jade carver in Fairbanks Alaska at The Alaskan Jade Cache. Our material was north American/Canadian nephrite, so quite different from the Burmese stone here. We had 60 tons of good jade ranging from jet black through translucent grass juice green to small amoumts of sky blue. Fun.
I can only imagine when these carvers didn’t have the more modern electric carving tools, how long even a small piece would take to hand carve, Months and months and months!!! The patience it would have taken to do that is amazing!!!! No wonder those centuries old pieces are so valuable!!!
@@EazyFieldsports I'm guessing, but I don't think, they've used much hammer and chisel, if it's anything like soap stone to work with. I would expect a lot of cutting, boring, scraping and sanding/grinding.
I had a chance to visit the state run jade factory in Beijing, there were pieces there that were carved over decades. One piece in particular, a Junk that was about 6 ft long and 3ft hight, took almost 200 years.

Absolutely stunning they are so beautiful 😍 carved from nature words can’t explain it the artisan is so skills to do such fine pieces the Jade is so thin without breaking anything😇
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Zion Chad Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
they are incomparable skilled artists in their own right but without those electric tools how long could their equivalent artisans of the past years do the same thing and how did they do it?
I have an 30lb(+/-) Jadeite Fine Crystal Granulated Natural Rock. It doesnt fit the Nephrite or that Clear Transparency. It is Dark Crystal Transparency. This one I would like for Jewelers to make into small ornamental objects; like Necklace Pendants. How do I Find those people.
I feel like they should have better carving stations for the massive amount of money the business deals with? Better light, maybe a magnifying glass stuff like that....
A jade chain can only be achieved when a carver has got to a certain level because all the links are carved out of the same strip of jade. There are no cuts anywhere. To break the circle of a link is considered bad luck by the Chinese. It's also a technique that all carvers must master before they can do mire intricate pieces on more expensive pieces of jade. The artists at work in this film are master carvers.
140k*, the vid was 5 year ago your comment, your comment is 1 year ago, this change of worth was more than 4 year ago. Those artwork take months months to do tho, details takes time even for a little one, if they was selling them for themselves, they would gain more but it will not be monthly, meaning they prefer security over winning more but not monthly and having to get the jadeite or nephrite by themselves.
All examples appeared to be in the rough, no completed pieces. So the statement that these carvers are the best, the best was not exhibited. Im seeing a bias news report here.
Well in the video He stated "Some of these Carvings worth Millions" and later he said "1 Million Yen is a little over $150,000" so I would guess thier Products start at $12,000 up to 60+ Million. ( which is what I have feeling the Wall size carving cost)
Wow is that Diamond tip she using I can do it I got jade lol wow that's detailed I got some diamonds an Indian tribe carved with that detail about 10 k years or more back lol
C’mon, I’m in the jadeite trade and I buy and order Burmese jadeite in Sihui, Guangdon province. I know the place and the people there is no sculptor in sihui can earn one million dollars. Generally speaking, the best jadeite sculptors are in jiangsu province. Average or smaller pieces are mostly polished in tumblers. Exaggerated footage.

These artisans are the best of the best , the deserve millions . Beautiful work .

Honestly these are rushed through and the attention to detail is horrible. It’s a factory line, these aren’t artists

They still had drills, and perhaps also some other smart tools, that I haven't heard of yet. But machines do help a lot for sure.
Then you swing the hammer a little to hard and break the whole thing in half 😥

Central American used to take te years to carved a good piece
I get quite a bit of this at my work. It’s my favorite sculptures to work with. So beautiful!
What sort of work you do?
Truly incredible! The work and skill that goes into jadeite carving has always impressed me
Chinese artisans are amazing. I have seen so many art forms that just blows my mind. Wonder how much that large piece will sell for!
Tens of millions of dollars!
The highest quality jade is way more expensive than diamond so u can guess
@@AMR_k400 the raw material jade is cheaper than diamonds. The process of carving it is what makes it so expensive;)
@@dr.doppeldecker3832 Diamond are expensive by marketing, and Jade was also marketing hard in Chinese's culture for thousand years.......

AMAZING! Enjoy your dream experience with the jade secret! Best regards from London!
I am obsessed with this stuff
Ever since Ive seen these as a child, been obsessed!
This is the kind of video that I hope little bit longer,,I don't mind watching it for 50 minutes,
Imagine days before diamond bits and powered drills, working with only hand drills and grits under light of oil lamps. Must had taken years.
Incredible skills aside. Just imagine the patience to work on a piece for months and then spend weeks just polishing it!
Im sure polishing can be hand over to less talented artists, Infact even i can polish it even if i never saw jade in real life
Whoa, total respect to the master Jade carvers, it's so mesmerising to watch, there beautiful works

Jade's actually a very durable stone but I get your point. The carvers can't make any mistakes!

If we can only imagine, jade expert with an entire mountain "Mt Rushmore" to explore the shape of the rock.
So gorgeous !!!

Excellent.!!
Good lord. That is amazing.
wonderful art product and skill
Sounds like these artists are getting ripped off. They need to be making at least double that much.
Nobody is as good at carving than Chinese people ! I lived 12 years in China, I have seen stuff which may haunt you with beauty for rest of your lives
