- As seen on BBCTV in 1998, and re-mastered here from the original standard-def BBC archive copy. Produced by Nick Freand-Jones. Very special thanks to all those involved in the production, especially the late Jun Fukuda for sneaking the camera crew onto Toho's backlot.
I love how the BBC made a godzilla suit just for like a few minutes on screen. And, i just realized, the godzilla movie "Destroy all Monsters" and "Final Wars" really were the kaiju equivalents of Infinity War
Yep
I always respected the journalist who died on the Tokyo Tower scene... filmed Godzilla right until the end, even saying Sayonara to everyone.
I really enjoyed this very well done very enjoyable BBC documentary about Godzilla.
I never seen this documentary before, but I sure loved this after I seen it!
So cool ...interviews w/the dudes who worked in Japanese cinema & involvement w/Mr. Honda & the Toho studio., Thanx 4 posting this!
It’s a depressing reality for Tristar’s Godzilla when even the original Suit actor, Haruo Nakajima, admits that the movie has more inspiration from Jurassic Park than it does with the 1954 source material.
I had such a crush on Momoko Kôchi, the female lead in Godzilla. It was many years before I learned her name, but I thought she was the sweetest, most wonderful girl in the world. I'd first seen her in The Mysterians which I saw in the theatre in the 60's. Later, I saw Godzilla on TV and recognized her.
Even better: Yuriko Hoshi in "Godzilla vs. The Thing."
based and waifu-pilled
Long live the King.
16:40 - was a scary kaiju film, not because of Rodan, but those creatures from the mineshaft.
How godzilla changed the world forever
I do like the idea of national Godzillas
37:35 we kind of did in the 60s; Gorgo. Even had its own short lived comic series.
Historical inspirations for Gojira @ 3:53
3:03 I didn't know Honda was a POW.
Nice documentary... until the GINO showed up! Hahaha!
Hey, at least we got the animated series out of it, so it isent a total loss
How many tons of chili to give Godzilla such fiery breath ?
This is canon
I grew up watching Godzilla, every Sunday on channel 9 NYC in the summer. It's a shame they made her a heel at first...it took way too long to make her a baby face ( that's good guy ) I was so mad that she lost so many matches at first but I'm glad that changed then some time latter Godzuki came along and Godzilla got the recognition it deserved.
Um, isn’t Godzilla a male? He’s referred as a “he” in the Godzilla English dubs, as well as official merchandise, comics etc.
@@asaduzzamanchowdhury7094 In English? Yes, it's a he but in original Japanese it's called a "it" of duel-gender, but I just alway's considered Godzilla as she because of Godzuki, most baby tend to stick with the mother in nature but sure, a he is probably right.
@@Silo-Ren I googled what Godzooki and Godzilla’s relation is, and apparently godzooki is Godzilla’s nephew!
I like what the U.S. distributor did with the movie (adding an American journalist). It's a cool idea. But wow, is it ever an inferior movie.
I grew up seeing only that version - the one with Raymond Burr - but after having finally seen the original Japanese version, I agree with you 110%. I much prefer the original 'Gojira' :)
I get you man. Although, I feel that if there wasn't an American version. Godzilla would have never have become as successful in the West as it has become. The way toho changed the direction of the character from a horror monster to a comical hero wouldn't have attracted Americans audiences as much as it did with that of the Japanese.
Had it not been for the original, definitive depiction of him in Gojira, and the American film, I really don't think the gravity defying, dancing, cheesy, jolly evolution of Godzilla through the showa era would have caught on
Dean Devlin or Roland Emmerich should not even be part of this documentary - what they called a "Godzilla movie" was a disgrace.
At least we got the animated series out of it, and the monster itself wasent that bad, i Mean heck, ive seen online People who've redesigned Zilla and made him more like a classic godzilla, while keeping his basic head design, his plates and Arms
Missed it in the movies, but our local New York Station played movies once each day. I was eight or nine and watched and fell for the original Zilla. I am not thrilled with the recent incarnations. I was so looking forward to Emmerich's. version, and found it awful. Turning the Zilla into an iguana. call it anything but the Zilla. The last movie was a little better, but the Zilla fighting insects? Would they could come close to doing the original justice. Now its just a monster mash
Ivor Presents There we’re going to make a sequel where Zilla Jr fight the monster called Queen #*$ who name their monster after a swear words.
@@jaysonrogoz8822 You are right, its just vulgar.
It turn it not a giant bee instead is a giant termites
Zilla
Meaning and Cultural Significance of Gojira 37:38
Were you writing an essay on this?
You don't fuck with Godzilla
11:46
I was enjoying this documentary...until Roland Emmerich appeared.
7:22 That’s even ugly than Godzilla’s adopted son.
Dear God, the USA version was truly awful.
