    This was very useful but could be 10 seconds instead of 12 minutes.
    Make a spline
    Make a dummy/point for each vertex in the spline, align them up
    Use the SplineSelect modifier to select one vertex and then apply a LinkedXform modifier and link it to the corresponding dummy
    Repeat for each vertex

      You can also use "Spline IK Control" modifier, which does it all in one click

      This video is a "Beginner Tutorial"
      And as a beginner, I have no clue how to do those steps you listed! So I'm really glad this vid is 12 minutes long xD

      @@martinb714 Do you know if you can tie the helpers down to other objects? I'm trying to make a rigged phone cord where the loose ends are constrained to the base and receiver.
      Edit: I just realized you could apply a basic link from the helpers to the objects, nevermind!

    You could simply use spline ik modifier it works perfectly

      No that won't work similarly .

    It is a great technique. I needed to do something similar but with more complex poligonage instead of splines and thanks to your technique I have managed to do it and animating it is very simple and super realistic.

    Why didn't you use Spline IK control? One click instead of 10 minutes.

    • @Stereopixol
      @Stereopixol  3 года назад

      No Spline IK will not have both way control.

    Hi. Can you do a tutorial on creating a spool so you can coil the wire around it and animate the process please?

    • @Stereopixol

      +Max Racini That will be interesting and challenging too. Will try definitely.

    there a modifier called spline ik for spline

    • @Stereopixol
      @Stereopixol  7 лет назад +1

      Though Spline IK is useful , but they are not as flexible as this technique. Check for yourself.

    what if I modeled a sci fi wire which isnt a spline anymore. how would you do it? thx for the video.

    • @Stereopixol
      @Stereopixol  8 лет назад +2

      For models other than splines , you have to use bones. but if you plan ahead you can avoid it and use this spline technique, but yes other than spline > go for the bones. thanks for your support.

      I doubt that rig will work on the exported model in unity. I never tried though but the controllers might not export as controller.
