@@optimisticprime5711 Same. Some girls and women nowadays look down on girls who are soft-spoken, girly or modest and label them as "weak". But being "strong" doesn't mean being loud or wild. You can be strong-willed and courageous whether you're soft-spoken or bold. Courage comes from a strong mind, not appearance or personality. And I love how both Luciana and Ro embodied that.

"Different from other girls" he's NOT being a Nice Guy, she grew up on an ISLAND. She's different from MOST people. He doesn't degrade other girls, he's very respectful towards Luciana. She's a very nice person, just not compatible with someone as free-spirited and extroverted as him. I love how Luciana wasnt villanized. Agreed; after rewatching this recently, I really appreciated the little scenes that showed Luciana and Antonio actually getting to know each other and realising that they had completely different interests. Luciana was also a refreshing deviance from the norm; being the 'ideal/perfect' girl for the male lead, but not being arrogant or nasty to the female lead because of it
yes, true! SJWs have called the relationship "colonialism-coded" and "toxic" simply because a girl on an island is brought to an advanced society. Like bro, it's not colonization. They're clearly both white Italians, and Ro wanted to know about "civilization", he doesn't see her as a savage. Dunno why people are trying to compare this to Pocahontas.
Also the way Barbie deals with Luciana. She's heartbroken but does she villafy the girl for it? No cause she's a girls' girl. They both are because when Lucy notices Antonio wants Ro she's like "That girl is so lucky, go for it"
Oh jeez that one line “tell me why I’m not sleeping and my heart is leaping inside me” feels totally different when you’re not a young brave child anymore, and instead find yourself staring at your ceiling all night long drowning in anxiety. I wasn’t ready for this.

@@stephany6417 Things aren't so simple. Children are impressionable and vulnerable and _most_ will end up struggling with some form of insecurity growing up. You can talk as much as you want about how ridiculous that is, but human psychology doesn't subscribe to your idea of what the world should be. Most children can barely even identify and describe their own feelings, let alone somehow realize that their feelings are irrational and just turn them off. And hopefully we all know by now that telling young children to just grow thick skin and suck up their feelings doesn't work. Growing up I absolutely wished that I was a skinny, blonde white girl. I thought those things were synonymous with pretty, and because I wasn't any of those things, I wasn't pretty. I didn't realize how messed up that was until adulthood. Seeing more women who looked like me in the media being propped up as beautiful princesses would've for sure helped prevent me from developing those insecurities. Still, I treasure Barbie movies with all my heart. It was as massive a part of my childhood as Disney was for most others. Even now, as an adult, I go back to these songs and they make me feel unreasonably happy and nostalgic and warm. It's clear how much heart went into the making of these films and it is true that there are many invaluable life lessons woven into them. But it is also true that Barbie is representative of a very narrow ideal of beauty that has negatively affected many young girls throughout the years. Both of those things can be true at once. Barbie isn't 100% good, nor 100% bad, because nothing is.
EXACTLY MAN/MADAM!!!!!!! If they can seriously make a musical out of Spongebob Squarepants of all things then they can sure as hell make a Barbie Broadway Musical!!!!!!!!!
Finally! I found people who agree with me on that! When I listened to these songs as a child, I just enjoyed a good song, but recently I decided to refresh my memory and go back to them. I won't lie if I say that when I heard 'I need to know', I imagined this song as a great hit in a musical. These words are so beautiful and full of meaning, she sings then he sings and finally everything blends perfectly with each other. And now I see that someone wrote about the Princess and the Pauper! I can't believe it! This is the second story I thought about right after Barbie as Island Princess! How many great songs are in this movie :') ... what I'd give for 'How can I refuse' with great costumes and choreography. The only thing left for me is to dream that somebody will make a musical out of it T^T
Ever since watching Barbie as the Island Princess as a young girl, i've always always had these songs stuck in my head and randomly start humming the songs :) Old Barbie was the best, not only the art but moral behind the story. Magic, makes be believe in anything and everything. Barbie will never be too old for me to watch
I'm telling you I loved this movie. I mEAN LOVED! These songs are so beautiful and nothing else sounds like them. Like they could drop an album today and it'll be a game changer. It's crazy how underrated these movies are despite Barbie being a popular doll.
I can never forget the ball scene when Ro danced with Antonio and the music was played. I got chills all over my body just because of a Barbie movie!!!
I love the fact with the Barbie movies, I never really grew out of them because honestly, they seem to follow you, I adored 'Barbie and as The Island Princess', the music was just so beautiful and I still find myself getting grumpy at the villain like I did as a child. But honestly, I can never pick a favourite out of the Barbie 'old' Barbie movies, The Nutcracker one had to be my favourite as a little girl, because I used to try and dance in front of the television... I wish I wasn't that shy to do that now versing friends on Just Dance.
JJ Scrivner Rapunzel I think by far would have been my favourite, I remember getting for a Christmas present one year. I thought I was 'Hot Stuff' because I got the newest and best Barbie movie. xD
This made me frow my eyebrows a bit, and my smile got smaller. But I reminded myself she truly IS different from girls he met before. She grew up in an island, god dammit
Gosh, I might be in college now, but I'm reminiscing when I was like 8 or 9 and I would sing this to myself when I felt lost. This is seriously even more beautiful than I remember
You know, Barbie taught me how to be feminine in a strong, tough, kind way, in a way that portrays the "stereotypical traits" of a girl but in a way I felt proud of. It made me feel good, even though I never was girly. I'm kind of a mix between girly and tomboy as I've always been. Barbie, the older movies, taught me to embrace these feminine traits. I rewatch them now and I plan to see through those eyes again because I miss feeling okay with who I am - like a child does.
As a 18 year old university student. I will proudly say that I have learned and now know both harmonies to this song, and can now sing either Ro or Antonio's part
The instrumental part of this song is soooo beautiful. I know people say princess and the pauper has the best songs but imo island princess is the best just for the backing track. It literally feels like you’re gently sailing on the sea
I'm almost crying because listening to this after so many years, I feel strongly connected with the kid that I was, watching Barbie movies without a care in the world and thinking how everything was possible. And now, after so much time, I'm back here to the same song, utterly different from how I used to be but still somehow the same.
This melody lives in my head rent-free since I was so young and I’m well into my graduate studies now. I just love the actress they got for Barbie’s singing voice in this era. Very theatrical, not the popstar type. I never really cared for Barbie, just ended up watching these movies while watching over my sis and cousins as the eldest child, but the songs are what makes these movies so iconic, magical, and memorable. Impeccable vocal control 👌
I refound this song a couple of days ago and I, a 23 year old female, cannot stop singing it. I cannot believe these movies will not be in the life of many kids like it was mine
I was sitting watching swimming class from the bleachers at school the other day and I have no idea what made me start singing this song, but I loved this when I was 8 now I'm 13. I had to look it up omg I miss it so much.
I am not into barbie much. Nor did I watch ANY barbie movie. But one of my best friends suggested me to have a peek at this song. and I loved it so much. I sang it the WHOLE day. And my sis thought I am a freaking idiot. She should know that I am not old enough to HATE barbie.
My aunt jean bought me this movie when I was 4-5 years old, I adored it. I grew out of Barbie after a while and I wish I still had the DVD, she passed away a few years ago and I miss that movie so much. I remembered this song just a few days ago lol feels weird being able to remember a song from when I was four, but I can’t recall what we did in algebra last year🤷♀️😂
This is my favorite Barbie movie! Just rewatched it after years and I loved every single detail. Ro is a wonderful main character: kind, good-hearted, nature lover, sensitive but also with a strong and determined soul. Antonio is literally a prince charming! The way he falls in love with Ro is so pure, romantic and dreamy! (let's be honest, we would all like an Antonio in our life). Ariana is a amazing villain… dark, manipulative and cruel! Luciana is an angel, she deserves happiness and I loved her complicity with Ro. The songs are literally masterpieces! I love this movie madly! It teaches so much! ❤️🦚
Is just me or Rosella has quite similar story with Anastasia(1997,20Century fox)? Both lost them memory, both want to know their family, both are actually princesses
They’re similar, but in Anastasia, they try and trace back her memory, and she tries to find her family, but Ro was trying to fit in more with royal life, while Anastasia was trying to find her family to begin with.
I see what you're saying but tbh the more similar story is Tangled and Anastasia (both are royalty, both want to do something, both has help from handsome men who is only using them for personal gain, both get "betrayed" by said men, both fall in love with the men and actually get a happily ever after)
The difference is that she got lost at sea, with Anastasia, her whole family was murdered, only her and her grandmother left for Paris, with Rosella, Antonio finds her, with Anastasia Vlad and Dimitri wants to make her go through Anastasia without knowing that she really was her
man i wish that the Barbie that’s in all the movies now was like this. you know, realistic, adult? Barbie was never supposed to be portrayed as a teenager! she’s an actress, who can PLAY one, she ISNT one. i miss the weddings at the end of each movie…

“ seize my tomorrow, learn my yesterday “ 👏👏👏👏 *goosebumps*
guess who‘s shamelessly singing this in 2016
ARMY
SNAPE?!
I am 25 and love this song it is beautiful
Dahell how is a kpopper even here 0-0 we're everywhere oh god
lol I am 😆
Can they turn this into a broadway musical? Like, this is beyond perfection.
This song is so underrated it's insane. The vocals are so good, the song itself is inspiring. Its needs more recognition outside the Barbie world
Y'all someone should make a Barbie musical!
EXACTLY MAN/MADAM!!!!!!! If they can seriously make a musical out of Spongebob Squarepants of all things then they can sure as hell make a Barbie Broadway Musical!!!!!!!!!
I always daydream of Princess and the Pauper becoming a Broadway musical
@@Aleex111 Nicely said!
If they can make Ratatouille a musical, then let’s get on it for the Barbie films!!
Same!!!!!
So poetic
its so sad that those things dont stand anymore now its crap
Ariana Shockley ik now its all about boys. Its bs!
SweetCherry620 I've always done the same and not realized what the songs came from until now

I always cry when I hear this song and idk why
I had 1 tear
+Josie Setiawan EXACTLY
Jessamine Lovelace all of us who do this (im one of them) are so extra when it comes to this beautiful song we cry 😂
Me too
I cry too because it reminds me of my childhood and I miss it so much. Everything was much easier back then
I love the fact with the Barbie movies, I never really grew out of them because honestly, they seem to follow you, I adored 'Barbie and as The Island Princess', the music was just so beautiful and I still find myself getting grumpy at the villain like I did as a child. But honestly, I can never pick a favourite out of the Barbie 'old' Barbie movies, The Nutcracker one had to be my favourite as a little girl, because I used to try and dance in front of the television... I wish I wasn't that shy to do that now versing friends on Just Dance.
Issy-May Sohma LOL That just made my day xD
Mikasa Pinata I'm glad to have made your day. :)
*****
I'm glad that you feel the same way xD
Issy-May Sohma My feelings exactly!. My favorites are either The Nutcracker or Rapunzel. This is my favorite song from The Island Princess. :)
JJ Scrivner Rapunzel I think by far would have been my favourite, I remember getting for a Christmas present one year. I thought I was 'Hot Stuff' because I got the newest and best Barbie movie. xD
"Different from girls that I've met before." NICE GUY ALERT.
Gio Gio SIMP!!! lmao
SHE COMES FROM AN ISLAND AND TALKS TO ANIMALS STFU
😂😂😂😂😂😂 this killed me lol
@@necromelodia2432 it was just a joke chill
This made me frow my eyebrows a bit, and my smile got smaller. But I reminded myself she truly IS different from girls he met before. She grew up in an island, god dammit
i’m totally not using this as an audition song like eight years later
Yes! Was thinking about how perfect this song is
when you still can't outgrow Barbie music... XD
I can't outgrow Barbie in general
Tada Suko I love Barbie music! I’m 17 and an upcoming freshman in college, but it will always stay with me.
@Rachel

*NOSTALGIA*
trueeeee
Gosh, I might be in college now, but I'm reminiscing when I was like 8 or 9 and I would sing this to myself when I felt lost. This is seriously even more beautiful than I remember
The harmony is... WOW!!! I can really feel the love and the connection the shared with each other. Old Barbie is the best tbh :)
this song was good when I was 8 and now that im 14 it still sounds so good
Same!!
Same 😂 sounded good when I was eight and just as good now at eighteen.
Try at 22 😏😏
Damn and now youre 18, what about now?
This song will always sound good, wherever you are, however old you are.
This song hits harder when you are not a kid anymore....
Why is this the most beautiful song I've ever heard? It makes me feel amazing. Maybe because it reminds me of my childhood
I SWEAR, THESE BARBIE MUSICALS NEED TO BE ON BROADWAY!!!!!!!!!
As a 18 year old university student. I will proudly say that I have learned and now know both harmonies to this song, and can now sing either Ro or Antonio's part
A 22 year old PHD student watching and singing alone here, shamelessly
i watched this movie so much when i was little i love this movie this one and the princess and pauper those are my fav movies
Same here! :D
+Cristine Joyce hey thats great and its a classic movie we have all seen which is great
Me too
Same this and princess and the pauper are also my two faves! The others are good, but these two are best imo!
+jgugsu cool (:
The instrumental part of this song is soooo beautiful. I know people say princess and the pauper has the best songs but imo island princess is the best just for the backing track. It literally feels like you’re gently sailing on the sea
OK but his harmonizing is absolutely gorgeous oh my gosh I can't believe I haven't noticed it before
We can all totally agree that Barbie as The Island Princess is one the Barbie movies that has such great songs!!!
The harmonies in this song have no business slapping this hard
I'm almost crying because listening to this after so many years, I feel strongly connected with the kid that I was, watching Barbie movies without a care in the world and thinking how everything was possible. And now, after so much time, I'm back here to the same song, utterly different from how I used to be but still somehow the same.
Listen y’all, these harmonies are SLEPT ON
I miss old barbie :( I wish the Barbie songs were on spotify or something. I'm just jamming to these songs while I'm studying for finals.
I miss when Barbie actually looked human with minimum makeup and different charming stories
I was in love with his voice as a child and when I watched death note, I fell in love with L.
It's the same voice actor. I learned that today
girllll i’ve been saying the same thing !!!! when i found out i was like…. NO WONDERRRR I FELL IN LOVE WITH L!! he was my childhood!
Her voice is so angelic. I cried. This is why art survives.
I refound this song a couple of days ago and I, a 23 year old female, cannot stop singing it. I cannot believe these movies will not be in the life of many kids like it was mine
When I have kids, I’m singing them barbie songs until they’re 28
Samee
Same
It’s 2020, the worlds being an ass and I’m here learning one of the best songs I’ve ever heard from barbie.
3:46 her "can't" sounded so powerful there. Just amazinggggg
If you’re listening to this in 2021… how does it feel to know you’re one of the elite?
dang good!
I was sitting watching swimming class from the bleachers at school the other day and I have no idea what made me start singing this song, but I loved this when I was 8 now I'm 13. I had to look it up omg I miss it so much.
Same
I am not into barbie much. Nor did I watch ANY barbie movie. But one of my best friends suggested me to have a peek at this song. and I loved it so much. I sang it the WHOLE day. And my sis thought I am a freaking idiot. She should know that I am not old enough to HATE barbie.
+Lucy English same, tho I turn 13 on weds
Same i started randomly humming it and I just had to look it up
Screaming this song at the top of ur lungs is lowkey a good stress reliever lmao
I'm 25 and I still love this movie because of the songs. They're beautiful in Spanish and English version.
Fr i have all the DVDs
My aunt jean bought me this movie when I was 4-5 years old, I adored it. I grew out of Barbie after a while and I wish I still had the DVD, she passed away a few years ago and I miss that movie so much. I remembered this song just a few days ago lol feels weird being able to remember a song from when I was four, but I can’t recall what we did in algebra last year🤷♀️😂
They have putting a lot of the old movies back on the shelf lately maybe it one of them.
They snapped on that harmony tho. Voices blended with absolute perfection. 👏🏾 👏🏾
"All these questions keep turning and churning and burning inside me" IT'S THE HARDEST PART
Is just me or Rosella has quite similar story with Anastasia(1997,20Century fox)? Both lost them memory, both want to know their family, both are actually princesses
I read it on Wikipedia. But I mean movies
They’re similar, but in Anastasia, they try and trace back her memory, and she tries to find her family, but Ro was trying to fit in more with royal life, while Anastasia was trying to find her family to begin with.
I see what you're saying but tbh the more similar story is Tangled and Anastasia (both are royalty, both want to do something, both has help from handsome men who is only using them for personal gain, both get "betrayed" by said men, both fall in love with the men and actually get a happily ever after)
The difference is that she got lost at sea, with Anastasia, her whole family was murdered, only her and her grandmother left for Paris, with Rosella, Antonio finds her, with Anastasia Vlad and Dimitri wants to make her go through Anastasia without knowing that she really was her
Saem as MariMar.. awww
I'm 14 and this here is my favorite song from any barbie movie from my childhood. idk why it gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it
man i wish that the Barbie that’s in all the movies now was like this. you know, realistic, adult? Barbie was never supposed to be portrayed as a teenager! she’s an actress, who can PLAY one, she ISNT one. i miss the weddings at the end of each movie…
I thank my parents. I mean without them I would not have had the dvds to watch these movies.
I'm imaging L just doing his spinny kick karate stuff and dancing then proclaiming his love for light. Light is the princess.
+Shiny Sylveon Dear Random Stranger, I love you. :')
+Shiny Sylveon Same xDD
Shreyasee Thakral Lelin Spriggs thanks! even if i just changed my profile name!
He guy that voices L voices Julian in Barbie The Princess and the Pauper
good
Prince Antonio’s voice actor also voiced L in Death Note, damn
I used to love this movie as a kid ❤ this song still touches my heart as much as it did back then
Fun fact: the guy who voices Antonio is voiced the same guy who voices L in Death Note. I find it kind of funny 😂😂
