My little fan theory is that Time eater ate the Sonic 06 timeline and maybe even Solaris itself possibly and that’s how the stages and villain is able to appear or something similar to that. I ain’t the best at theories but I’ll be happy if I’m right in any way.

Mephiles is my favorite Sonic villain next to Dr. Eggman, don't get me wrong. I also was very excited to see him show up. However, I'm awfully surprised that everyone is treating it his appearance wasn't coming at all. I found it really obvious since Sonic 06 is in Sonic Generations and this is Shadow's story. Lol Oh and the announcement of the DLC being centered around Keanu Reeves actually voicing Movie Shadow and there was a game around him is chef's kiss! EEP! :) What really got me hyped was seeing that Shadow could actually reunite with Maria and Gerald Robotnik, seeing that there is going to be more Sonic movies, and Gerald Robotnik's actual journal! LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! EEP! :)
Even though its still weird that Black Doom is the main villain when Mephiles is, let's be real, the bigger threat by a wide margin; I'm just glad Mephiles's existence is being acknowledged by Sega by giving him some actual spotlight and that he is no longer cursed to ONLY be remembered as a good villain in an otherwise terrible game.

While powers wise, it makes sense. I imagine that if Shadow is going to be Batman, it makes sense for Sonic to be Superman more because of their relationship. Even then, I always like randomness/what I didn’t expect or wanted in different Sonic continuities.
