The fact that Ebay charges me tax AFTER the shipping is calculated in is what pisses me off. The 13% listing fee SHOULD NOT include the shipping cost.
Ebay also charges the 13% on the sales tax which goes to the state, but we still pay a fee to ebay on that tax.
If you think that's bad eBay makes profit off of the sales tax money that you never see
@@ryanrobinson5580 Technically we pay that Fee To the Processor of the payments that ebay collects on behalf of the Payment Processor which is Ayden (they process payments for MOST major Online platforms INCLUDING AMAZON) most platforms do not SHOW YOU what ebay shows You (there more transparent) but PayPal was the same way you obviously did not sell prior to 2020 when ebay took over Payments from PayPal prior ot that PayPal processed the payments they took (and still do) 3.9% of the entire PAYMENT INCLUDING THE SALES TAX!! IF YOU WERE PISSED ABOUT THIS you should have been COMPLAINING for the last 2 decades while PayPal was doing this to ebay sellers! EVERY Payment processor CHARGES A FEE ON THE ENTIRE PAYMENT INCLUDING THE TAX SO YEP there is a FEE on the tax!! Deal with it or stop reselling THRE IS NOTHING NEW ABOUT THIS!
I started promoting everything at 2% when someone said it doubled their business in a month. It has not done that for me. I'm a newbie and still learning. What I have learned is that 38.9% of my sales go toward fees which is way more than the % I anticipated when I started. They should remove shipping from the equation when you ship at what the buyer pays. I appreciate all of you who put the content out here for us to learn!
that is about right most resellers doing it right NET about 40-50% meaning your business expenses take 50-60% if your expenses take more then 60% time to rethink your business model
I understand why the other sellers quit Ebay. BUT as a viewer here is my take on this topic. I used to love watching Paul the Philly flipper. But when he started on Whatnot he would tell you what he was buying for Ebay and what items were for Whatnot. Clearly we all could see a lot of the "junk" he said was for Whatnot. Even he knew (because he told us) it was not good enough to source for Ebay. The straw that broke the camels back for me was: he purchased two clothing racks of graphic shirts. Not vintage not collectable just graphics. Shirts I could probable by at Walmart or Target. He said these were for Whatnot. Any reseller would have looked at them and thought these are fun but not money makers. I figured what do I need this guy for ? Then he picked up common Rae Dunn items again for Whatnot. I believe a lot of the QVC addicted buyers are now Whatnot buyers. But on the other side of the coin is guys like Locker Nuts. He puts his Good stuff on Whatnot including gold and silver. Many can agree with me or not. But the RUclipsrs that are picking junk will loose subscribers. Those that continue to teach will gain or at least not lose. I will continue with Ebay I have been with them for 27 years.
Jack at Locker Nuts is on a whole different level than Paul. However, both are just doing what is best for their business.
I am NOT quitting- in fact, I am doubling- down on my inventory purchases for the next couple weeks. May you and yours have a great weekend, Kevin!
Me too my sales and items seem to have picked up steam. Some more sales and good finds. So I’m increasing my inventory in the coming weeks as well. I’ve had great success at bins in my state. 2 visits and all items paid for by sales. Soooooo much profit coming soon 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Kevin would partner trains with me I'm cleaning out hubby's stuff! 😢
I'm not leaving either. I'm just getting started. Let the others go, leaving it to us. It's our turn 😆
I tried to promote at different percentages, from 2.5% to whatever eBay suggested. Because they charge you from the total order, not only from the listing/sold price, the real rate is much much higher than you expected. Also, I compared my best month when I did not promote to the best month when I promoted. When I promoted I sold more items, but I got $400 less in earnings, and my average sale price was almost 2x lower than in the month when I did not promote. So, I stopped.
I'm staying with it. My sales are down 90%+ from mid January till now. The only sales I get are small value items. Still listing every day, running sales. It's the worst it's ever been for me but I'm waiting for a turnaround.
The frustrating thing for me is the long days of no sales. Usually I sell 1-2 a day on average but it’s a pattern of no views or sales for a few days over & over.
Same for me
We're not quitting eBay. But we're also not really planning to increase or promote our eBay store. Our eBay activity has largely been a "clearing house" for items we cannot sell on Amazon or Walmart.
You handled the subject of Dave leaving Ebay with dignity for Dave, who is a great person with a nice store, and as he and his wife know he can always come back, for now he is doing what is best for his channel and him.
Yeah, Dave is a great guy. Wish him best of luck! Can't blame him though, I'm done with Ebay too!
He can't come back to eBay if his eBay account is suspended because he never bothered to get it out of being below standard.
Why should anyone care how you or anyone else runs their business. I just appreciate all the information you all give for free
I agree; I really like static selling. And, I love sourcing.
Dave has the fun personality and has grown the following to make live selling very profitable and he deserves that success.
I quit eBay two years ago and regret it less every day. They keep jacking up fees and providing less service. So-called Customer Service for sellers can't be trusted on their own website; they tell whatever lies they can think up to get the person out of their hair. To get real help you have to ask on the Community boards or use a Social website. That was one of the last straws, along with sourcing going into the compost pile here. I used to love sourcing, but it's actually physically painful to go out buying now, such buying as there is. 18:30 Kevin - I asked the same question when Promotion first started. It's at the point now, or close to it, when Promotion just gets you to baseline; I predicted that two years ago. Jewelry sellers are already paying 25% or MORE of the total sale to eBay, and it will only get worse. If an auction house takes the same bite, at least they're doing all the work.
Great vid thanx. I found a red pickle keeper today. Woot woot
21 years selling.. definitely not quitting! It’s not my main source of income but the sales (even slower) are very helpful 💛 thanks for staying upbeat!
I sell on Ebay. I watch RUclipsrs who sell on Ebay. These channels that've gone all Whatnot, I've unsubscribed from. Hairy Tornado would go to the bins, say "I'm buying these trash plush for $1 a bag and my viewers will pay tons for them on Whatnot." That does nothing for me and I imagine their market will dry up soon as people can only buy so many worthless stuffed animals or other stuff before the novelty of buying from a RUclipsr wears off.
I used to be a big Hairy Tornado fan but I almost never watch him anywhere. Tired of hearing about Whatnot from him and now his hot sauce and soaps.
HairyTornado sells junk now. Nothing cool or interesting
worst youtuber out there imo
@@thepublishinggame sounds like jealousy to me.
20:06 Eventually they will add that you have to do the Truffle shuffle to get a sale as well Not just Promoting your listing
I don't have a huge eBay store, but I do have a good bit of items that I have listed at the lowest price available on eBay. Last weekend on Friday and Saturday I didn't have a single sale, so on Sunday I went on to eBay's Help & Contact support and asked if they were hiding my listings. About 30-45 mins later, over the span of an hour I got 5 sales. Not saying that eBay is hiding my listings, but it feels like eBay is hiding my listings.
Wow, that’s some coincidence.?!
eBay can push a sale at anytime. They definitely push youtube content creators sales as they are helping bring in new sellers with big dreams ! I stopped watching Jride when eBay posted his picture on their front page ! I know a seller that does well over 2 million a year with eBay automotive but he had a competitive advantage with access and money to invest in inventory. Do you think his picture is going to be on the front page or eBay ? Of course not , he is not a RUclips influencer !
I've done this 3 or 4 times and it turned things around. Need to do it again. My sales are pathetic.
All of us running over to the Help & Contact section! :)
Hi Kevin! 🙋🏻♀️ Great topic!!! Static selling is my favorite. I love buying on Dibdit as well. My issue with eBay is eBay is only promoting eBay, not my item.
Kevin, in twenty years, i am sure ebay will just have been a dream, unfortunately. Even amazon states they expect not to be profitable forever. Ebay is just trying to get profit while they can, while they can.
Sales have definitely plummeted over the last couple years while fees continue to go up. Promotions help some but whether it’s worth it for a few more dollars or not is the question. I would love to see eBay do something that actually benefits the sellers more. It seems like the whole thing has become a hit or miss and “time is definitely money” is something many ebay sellers have started to seriously contemplate.
Different reselling models and personalties will gravitate towards platforms, it only makes sense.
We’re fortunate to be in a time to have all the different sourcing and selling options that we do!!
I gave your video a thumbs up specifically for the Pepper photobomb at the porta potty. The cat sense of humor is *chefs kiss*.
I live down here just a few hours from Dave and sourcing is so nice imo. I’m excited about Dave’s Adventures. He is always trying to create a new mold on how things can be done to better his business & family. It seems from watching him the my brain & his works in very similar ways. Trying to do this with obstacles like ADHD is a challenge for real. His ideas on how to tweek things is always intriguing to me & as someone a bit newer to this than he is it does actually help me with learning and adjusting what I need to on my end. It’s not like it’s the end of the world for him to try this. Idk why people get so bent over what he decided to do with his life lol 😂 I trust that Dave & Tina are smart enough to discuss finances and know what risks they can take. No reason for any of us to be rude to him or anyone else for such. I wish him the best. As I do for all my self proclaimed reselling friends such you, Dave, Cary & others. 🧡🖤🧡 Working together is the best way to grow imo & I appreciate you all. Thank you
I emptied my store and quit Ebay the end of 2024. In March it would have been 25 yrs on Ebay. Sick of paying fees on Postage and fees/rules constantly changing against the seller. Would rather have a rummage every year than deal with their Capitalistic ways! All done. But, will certainly continue to watch your videos and wish you the best of luck. With all the new Tariffs, I figure prices will raise even more at rummages, Thrift Stores and GW. So, Done!
Those vintage puzzles can be great. I found a Legend of Zelda puzzles and sold it for big money.
Going all in on eBay. eBay isn't gonna be the same in 5-10 years, so the time to take advantage of it is now.
It’s also interesting that now if you Google an item that you’re looking to buy instead of going to a specific platform, it’ll give you multiple platforms that you can buy it on. So if eBay increasing their fees, people will list it other places and potentially steal business from eBay.
I have never heard static sales. First time. I don’t mind that either also to shy for live sales but I wish I wasn’t
I’m not quitting either but damn like you said wouldn’t kill them to lower the fees. Miami seller here and central and north Florida is killer for sourcing. I find more things up that way in a weekend. Vs what I find a week down here.
I quit eBay in November, I’ve been selling on Facebook, I’m so amazed at the amount of interest in my items on Facebook compared to eBay.
I was looking for this comment! I thought about switching over. Is it easier? Less fees?
If he's talking about FB marketplace there are no fees but you have to deal with people messenging you "is it still available?",and after saying yes, you don't hear back or lowballers or asking if you can deliver. But it's OK if you're flexible.
@ this is the exact reason I’ve avoided it. I get it with ebay too sometimes so I don’t do best offer
My issue as a seller is eBay fees especially on shipping and promotions. I had an easier time selling men’s clothing but at the time I was sourcing in Dallas. My biggest issue is I hate selling clothing and returns. Sellers shouldn’t have cases against them because of the post office. I was a top rated seller for over a year. I personally just can’t do volume selling. I think eBay is a good platform for finding items that are hard to found at a retail store. I have a son that loves older video games. Most items I buy are normally from places like Amazon and Walmart. It always surprises me when people buy second hand from alternatives platforms like eBay and whatnot.
I'm just starting for myself while I still work for a ebay seller. My only issue with all the fees they collect is the site should not have as many glitches as it does.
eBay sales in the toilet and the increase fees so you can’t even make as much money when you do get sales. I think they want the small sellers out . Slowly but surely we will all have to quit as we will just be losing money by having an account
Add on to my last comment. Not only was I Out the Star Wars sale, I was out my Cost of the item sold, the Free items he asked me to add to his order, and I was out the shipping cost of shipping the item to him and the cost of him shipping his junk back to me.
I know in my area, sellers are coming out of the woodwork. It used to be (just last year) a very rare thing for me to run into another reseller. This last year I can't go anywhere without tripping over a half dozen resellers in every place I go. It is insane. I was a bookseller back when bookselling was profitable. It was great until scanners came along and word got out about the money in books. Then you couldn't go to any sale without a hundred scanner wielding "bookseller" tearing the place apart. I am seeing the same thing happen with eBay resellers now. Yeah, some sellers are quitting but for every one leaving it seems a dozen replace them.
Totally off topic, but I have the same Smurf Glasses and my daughter pointed out to me how the Smurfs wear party hats and Smurfette wears her tiara, on top of their white hats instead of right on their heads. Now every time I see the glasses, that stands out to me.
I had the clear toilet seat with fish in it for years at my last apartment.
I think the southern/Florida sellers buyers market will get more saturated and those that don’t adapt will quit/stop. I’m with you and enjoy the “static” model. Allows to really plan/budget and project a lot better than running content auctions.
Keep up the good work. Thanks for another great video
I cannot believe how much the kids have grown since I started watching 3 years ago and especially Turner...he's like a weed!
I just started selling on ebay November 1st, sales have been steadily growing pretty quick. Compared to what I was expecting for just starting. So I'm not going anywhere! I don't want to do live selling, I'm great talking to people in person, not so much on camera. Plus being in the Midwest, sourcing enough for consistent live selling wouldn't be easy. I promote everything at 2.5%. I went the first month without promoting, tried it for December. The numbers added up to where it's worth the 2.5 for me.
I have a small eBay starter store. My listings are a small amount (150). My sales are slow, it's a hobby for me. The fees are ridiculous!! After cost of materials, fees and time, I make so little. I hate it for sellers who do this for a living. eBay needs to step back and take a look at what they are doing, especially since their competition is growing in other market places.🙂 Happy sales to all!
Stopped selling on ebay when they decided they wanted a bigger piece of my pie... fb market place and buy and sell groups have worked perfectly for me. Might not be for everyone but it's a no trainer for some
Appreciate your views as always 🎉🎉
No sales in two days. I’ve listed 24 items in 3 days. I’m not quitting. Toughing it out. Dave is a good guy but a bit too reactionary. He’ll have the same problems there as he did on eBay because he’s just not organized. I hope he proves me wrong.
The way I see it, if we complain as full and part time sellers, imagine what the hobbyist thinks when they try to sell a few things? Most of them dont have the same mentality as most of us and love their inventory more than their potential customers. Once they see how little they will get, they will either stop selling on ebay or jack up their prices to where they never sell anything.
Im going from full time to hobbyist this year. I lost most of my local inventory sources in 2024.
How did you lose them?
For me, if I pay attention to the sale through rates when I am out sourcing, promoting items is not even necessary. I don't promote. It really didn't make a difference in my sales when I did do it.
I am the hold school guy . Now i have to take time to look up static selling 😅
I don't enjoy buying from live selling, I find it annoying-- so static selling is my fave too, and I am sure there are many more thousands of people like me.
I can’t quit static listing. It’s so peaceful to just put a tv show, RUclips or podcast on and list. During a live sale it is fun, but can be chaotic, you have to be somewhat entertaining. I did take advantage of live this week because I wanted to go thrifting but the weather was nasty so I just did some shows to make a little money.
For items from about $15 and less would I be better off trying a platform with less fees? I’ve got a ton of what I call smalls and most only go for about 5 to 15 plus shipping and after fees I’m only getting about 2 to 7 bucks in take away. So it’s almost defeating the purpose. Any feedback is appreciated
Love your Gummi Bears shirt!!
For me, making any huge business decision (based on crappy sales) would not happen in February. Historically, my worst sales month. But, maybe thats just stinkin thinkin. I am, however, thinking about where I want to go with reselling. My sourcing is way different since I moved to FL. Its not all milk and honey....or I just dont dedicate the same time to finding the honey. I am the problem in my business. I also have several other irons in the fire.
eBay fee increases are the 'boiling a bullfrog' method. Increase a tiny bit over time and sellers won't leave. Before long, you are in a pot of boiling water of fees and you don't realize how that even happened.
Good morning to you and morning! I get why Dave quit! Hugs and love! Hope your day is awsome.❤😊❤
I been selling since 2001 no use giving up now. One sale or 20+ sales it's all profit for me.
My daughter has her Tupperware small set, still in the box with the mugs 😊😊
I received my first shipment from American Bubble Boy. Thank you.
Ebay is my platform. I will be staying until as you said things don't sell there.
I do not promote. 80% of the items in my store would not garner more sales by promoting.
Dave quitting Ebay is OK but his videos will become less relevant for me to watch.
Thanks for the video!
As a reseller, I’ve slowed down because after doing it for 20 years plus years. I won’t quit
When I first started selling on E-Bay, I had a sale for a Star Wars Metal Space Ship on a wood base with a COA for $400.00. Buyer asked a lot of questions and for additional pictures, plus I had a couple smaller Star Wars items listed for $20.00 each and buyer asked if I would add the additional items for free (because I was a little uneasy about the sale, I marked the bottom of the wooden base with my initials). I said OK. He paid, I shipped. After he received it, he requested a return. E-bay authorized the return, but when E-Bay saw I received a package from buyer, they refunded his money. Problem was, buyer returned to me a Plastic Space Ship that was broken in a lot of pieces (Junk). I contacted E-bay and told them that buyer did NOT return the item I shipped him (I even sent E-bay pictures of what buyer returned to me). E-bay still sided with the buyer. So buyer got an expensive piece of Star Wars Collectible Memorabilia at my cost and I got his garbage. E-bay is Buyer friendly, Not Seller friendly, even when Seller proves Buyer is lying..
eBay is making it harder to sell, because if they raise their fees, we will have to raise our. What I don’t get is they take the 12 to 13 % on the sales tax, and we have to pay an additional.40 cents which doesn’t sound like a lot, but it adds up.
Why doesn't anybody ever talked about the fact that eBay makes. A prophet off of the sales tax money that you do not see they get to 13.5% + whatever promoted that you are doing. So essentially they can be getting 20% of the sales tax money. For everybody that makes $100,000 in sales that comes to $7,000 in taxes an eBay takes 1400.00. away from you
Thanks
I just started eBay yesterday. Is this the wrong time to start because everyone’s scaring me about fees and such
After 20 years, I quit ebay. I pulled most of my items and letting the last few fall off on their own. Ended my store and all. I'm done losing money to ebay and them not looking out for sellers.
What are you doing instead?
If you needed to be looked out for that much, you must not have been doing a good job in the first place.
I only sell high end items on ebay. Recently enrolled in auctioneer school to get my license. New chapter ahead. You are like most ebay resellers and want to find stuff for $2 and sell it for 10x 4 months later. I want to buy a knife for $200 and sell it for $350 on ebay in 3 days. I dont want a garage full of stuff that was one step away from a donation or landfill. I'd rather auction all that stuff because its either low value or slow sellers. If it doesn't sell in less than a month it's either a slow seller, price is too high or theres not enough demand. I have no interest in listings those items on ebay. At the end of the day it's different strokes for different folks.
I think Dave might get sick of shipping 300 things on Sunday and go back to selling on eBay where you can get more money for less work, sell 24 hours a day, even while you’re sleeping.
Not promoting.
I'm definitely not quitting. People can do what they want, but the grass isn't any greener anywhere else. I plan to keep my feelers into other avenues of selling, but eBay will be my main avenue of selling for now and the foreseeable future.
Dave didn't really have much choice. He's going to lose his eBay account eventually anyway.
I'm not quitting, but I'm certainly feeling the pinch. Sales are not good recently. Only 73 euros this week. [I'm In Ireland]
When you consider eBay also changed their policy to pass on the reduced USPS shipping charges to the buyer instead of crediting that to the seller, this is the second hit to sellers in the last 12 months. Still not quitting eBay.
You can opt.out of passing the shipping discounts to the buyer. I keep mine.
Problem is on WhatsNot etc you have to have a certain audience like sports items related. If you just do general all you get is 30% of ebay prices that flippers buy from you. Unless your spreads are 10x you aren't going to make money doing that.
I never promote. I'm not quitting. I could accept the fees better if shipping wasn't still so high. Its seems almost impossible to make anything off the $10 and under items now which breaks my heart because I enjoy selling them. My antique/vintage booth has done well this past year. I think it reflects the higher cost of ebay items due to higher shipping costs. Do you think shipping rates will ever decrease again?
Thank You!
I understand no one wants a fee increase, but it's really not a lot. As you mentioned its going to cost you approx. $500 a year (~$42 a month). To have access to the market e-Bay offers that seems well worth it to me. Not to mention that I have also noticed the increased e-Bay ads. e-Bay seems to have greatly increased its add spend, so I suspect the market will grow in 2025. As a small seller, this 0.3% increase is almost negligible to me. I just hope that e-bay uses the money in a smart way.
Dave may do okay but he is live selling mostly to his youtube audience. You have items that span the marketplace. Personally, I don't like to be tied to a phone call much less a live selling event. Ebay items can sell at 3AM as well as 3PM. I've given in to an up to 30% ebay cist for selling. If you had a retail store, what do you think your costs (or profits) would be on NEW goods?
Do you think ebay is going to be more for the collectibles? Because of Amazon
Ebay stock is approaching an all time high price. They must be posting massive profits.
They are making money from sellers.
Good morning Kevin 😊😊
I too am trying to double down and even expand.
Did I unintentionally tune in to an infomercial? 🤮
Dave is quitting ebay from a position of weekness. He allowed his account to get below average, even though he's trying to spin it and blame ebay in his video. He may succeed nonetheless, but he's going to have to source vastly different. No more $25 plush that sell for $150 on ebay. Josh did it from a position of strength and slowly, so he could still get top dollar for some higher priced items.
Quitting eBay to switch to 100% live auctions is a mistake. I had my 2 best single item all time sales last December, one for $1,450 and the other for $3,000.
I have a feeling Dave already knows the margins and for him it's a great idea.
for you, a hybrid model would work best. I think if you went all live you'd get rather depressed.
Some RUclipsr sellers are taking the easy way out with live selling. It’s easier when you have a following from RUclips. I’ve watched people on what not and it blows me away. Selling silver for way over spot just because they can, etc. (not talking about you directly)
I never understood how selling a silver dollar on EBay was profitable.
How do I find you on eBay. I searched for commonwealth pickers and I wasn’t able to find you that way. I have been away from eBay for a bit so I’m needing a bit of help with this please. You have something I would like to buy
Never mind, I got it,
How do you find your market places
Pepper prohibits porta-potty placement👍
When I discount my items I take away the promotion. If I’ve noticed my item not getting any views I promote at 2%-3% ONLY. I’ve seen a slight increase. I also unlist items and realist as similar to get a “new item” look, especially if I know it’s a good item and had no views. It makes it go to the top and people notice it.
Hi, what's the best way I can recoup some of my packing materials costs?
I get the free boxes from the USPS and cover them with brown paper. I cut the boxes to the sizes I need I'm only spending money on paper it's so much cheaper.
I've been selling part time on ebay for about 3 years now, and have been watching ebay RUclipsr's even longer . I like watching Dave, and I would love to support him in his new endeavor . However, because I have watched him for so long, and seeing how he operates at times, I`d be afraid to buy from him because he may lose the item or just forget to ship it. I have seen him do both at times and honestly he seems to think it`s funny when he does things like that.
That's the real reason he's moving to dibdit. He can get away with stuff like that over there.
What is this word as you said #static sales”
There are better opportunities. eBay not worth it. All that work for very little 💰
You must be doing something then.
