In the US, they wouldn't be able to give you a price before the procedure. Then about 60 days later, you would get a bill for $2350USD for this same service.
And you'd say "Wait! But I have insurance!" and they'd say "We don't accept your insurance and even if we did none of the doctors actually work for the Hospital and they don't accept your insurance either. Expect multiple further bills from each and every doctor and specialist you saw."

No joke, went to the ER for a tooth that went bad, end result was "Tooth's bad, it'll have to come out, see a dentist on Monday. Here's a prescription for exactly 3 vicodin for the pain. GTFO." I have insurance and that cost me $1500.
Doctors are legal drug dealers but instead of just shooting you and robbing you they slowly kill you with experimental prescribed drugs all the while draining your life savings, so they can drive a Mercedes and put their spoiled children through college.
That's if you have good insurance.

its public safety, ukraine does want to keep the area safe and this is essentially proof that for right now the containment measures are working. it sucks that your fathers essentially destroyed a giant part of the country side, it will be a dangerous anomaly for many many years to come. The best measures to protect people are radiation survey monitoring and public awareness. If you get rid of curiosity (i..e watch these videos), many people will no longer crave to visit the area for the novelty reason. If you crack down then you get all sorts of crazy theories and stories and whatnot.
This was at least partially true at Hiroshima, because convection lifted most of the radioactive byproducts into the stratosphere. If the burst happens at ground level there will be radioactive material mixed with dust and slag from the surface. That mixture is going to fall within a few tens of miles of ground zero, and do a lot of damage.
Look up what happened with Lucky Dragon 5 and how far away it was away from the actual burst. They weren’t directly downwind, either.

It’s in the government’s interest to have people come get checked. Wouldn’t want anyone highly contaminated to be going around in public with the excuse they couldn’t afford to be checked.
The devices she was using are called multi-channel analyzers. They are essentially a big complex version of that dosimeter you have, which is an impressive kit for the price but it cant detect low level beta and alpha. Hers most likely can. Both your dosimeter and her analyzers can determine the isotope within a margin of error depending on the energy level of the particle that hits. This is measured in eV and since its in the hundreds of thousands it is stated in keV. You can see that unit listed on the dosimeter next to the assumed isotope.
The cesium area indicates purely gamma exposure which is mostly harmless at low exposure as she said. The chairs gave her a rough idea of the level of risk and showed you probably had no beta emitters inside you. But after you told her where you were she wanted a more accurate scan.
That chamber was actually a massive lead walled room, you can see the lead bricks its made of overlap so that there are no gaps. This is so that she can get a very low background and achieve a high enough resolution to make sure your friend had absolutely nothing radiating from inside.
Just because they have nothing radiating from inside does not mean the DNA inside their cells has not been permanently damaged by the radiation they have already been exposed to.
Sounds like you know things. I always thought that its not possible to determine the dose of radiation received if you had no personal dosimeter on you which records the cumulative radiation, so I was very sceptical about that checkup.
Modern Lead post WW2 is a tiny radioactive due to most furnace techniques.

@Robert People seem to have HUGE misconception of US healthcare... First off, US has Universal Healthcare for people who make under $35K a year (all poor people).. This includes dental, emergency, disease, illness, cancer, surgery, ER, ect.. The only thing not covered is cosmetic surgeries that are not medically needed. Secondly, most professions in the US have Insurance plans and the Employer covers your insurance at least partially. So rather than get destroyed with Taxes to pay for the whole countries healthcare, you get more of a choice in what kind of care you want, and where you want to be treated, unlike Canada and Nordic states where you have little choice in providers as well as long wait times.
They had the price upfront, that tells you its not US right there.
Ask a dr how much it would cost, they say I dont know you'll have to check the insurance.
@@JonHop1 I agree, not sure why people say we dont have free healthcare. You do if you make under a certain amount. Even at that you can get good coverage with private insurance. I would rather pay a good conpetive price and get the latest technology and great Doctors and no wating. Also you can choose who to go with. Not having someone tell you who you can see. Not to say we need improvement on the system. Because one of my meds is $1000 and my daughter's is $1200 per dose. I think that's kinda ridiculous. And it could affect your insurance prices. But we still dont have to pay hardly anything out of pocket. Because the company's that make the meds like humira has a discount card for there patients. So my daughter only pays $5 for 4 pens. It would have been more then $4000. If they didn't give us a discount card. I'm just saying we dont have it as bad as people think.

You cannot do this in Canada as easily.

@@Merciless_Banana I have read several books about nuclear physics, dosimetry chemistry and biology, also have watched freely available courses about radiological protection from the IAEA and I did a social service for 2 and a half years on a nuclear medicine hospital.
Doesn't take much to figure it out.
You have to know the amount of contamination present and the kind of isotopes which is freely available information, also you have to know about biochemistry to know how the isotopes behave inside the body, they also have a dosimeter with them, with that and the activities they perform you can make relatively accurate estimations about their dose received and how much internal contamination they might have. That water wasn't that bad he didn't drank it and inside the reactor 5 there is no serious contamination, Cs-137 and Sr-90 are main isotopes that give off radiation in the exclusion zone, they aren't absorbed thorough the skin that easy.

What an amazingly lovely lady. In the UK if you went to a hospital filming and saying you had been in a radioactive area you would get very short shrift. Her bedside manner is better than most GP's I have been to see.

I think she means about the radiation theory of evolution, i.e. the idea that without sufficient ionizing radiation evolution is 'retarded', written about in the book starship troopers by Heinlein. The idea is that the radiation pressure forces/accelerates evolution. He did not say its good for developed lifeforms, but that it is a remnant of something necessary that occurred for life to develop as it has., and the author describes a planet that has insufficient radiation as being stuck in a way that prevents intelligent or complex life development, making it essentially stuck in time, by the time the universe ends it will still have very basic lifeforms on it.

They have been swimming and walking at another part of Chernobyl nuclear station, not radiation poisoned. This part have been constructioning, when the disaster had became. It has similar form and look as 4th block, that had exploded.
After 30 years radioactive isotopes mostly went away in cause of half-life, raining and disactivation procedures in 1986.
Radiation levels are not too high at this territory now. another energy blocks have been working till 2000s.

Yep the machines she is using on them are for actual radioactive dust/particles that might be on or inside their bodies. They do not however detect the damage that has already been done to cells and the body from direct exposure. That is what the dosimeter readings are used to calculate, and they don't appear to tell her their total dosage during their full excursion, but rather just how many Microsieverts where being detected at their highest reading area (during this trip).
Thats a hell of a facial expression! When i seen her make that expression the first time i watched the video, I was thinking WTF was that?? I had to rewatch it afew times. To me it definitely deserves a spot in the next glitches in the matrix top 10 video.

ever since the new sarcophagus radiation background are pretty safe there still hot spot but there slowly going down at that point the only really dangerous place left are minimal the liquidator did a good job the most dangerous part of reactor 5 is not the lower level but the roof and reactor room since it was where it was open during the explosion

You can't swallow radiation, that's like saying he swallowed light. It's the thing the light is coming from that you have to watch out for.
@@dnrob7 to be fair alpha and beta radiation are actual physical particles. gamma, yeah is just light. But ingesting alpha particles is possible and by far the most dangerous type of radiation to get, it won't do anything to you externally if you are wearing clothes but once inside your body it wreaks havoc.
@@chriskelly4299 Alpha emitters, yes. The particle shot out as an alpha emission, no. Unless you are taking in an "emission" that is still a heavy atom that wants to keep dividing.. but this would be a "daughter nucleus" (radioactive material) and not an alpha emission.
Beta emissions are electrons, so again, no, it's a one time bullet. That round is spent. It's not going to fire again.

Turns out that even though it is dangerous, it is not a hellfire instant death zone. Well, some part of it may me. Like the Elephant's Foot. But most of it is not the Elephant's Foot. They could die if they get too close to the really dangerous parts.
I wouldn't call them "fine" Anything can happen down the road because of what they encountered. I would be surprised if none of them get cancer within 10 years
I think Chernobyl was a hoax. No way they can be cleaner than a person who takes an iodine tablet.

I think the were more in danger by being hurt or killed by falling or something falling on them than by the radiation. Most of the time it was just 3-5 times higher than normal background, and never got to a value that you can get on a commercial flight. I carried a geiger counter for many years, and on planes was the only place where it really went up, 50-100 times background. Radiation is generally not healthy, but not as dangerous as most people think.

These guys are adventurous, resourceful,good friends. They seem reckless but they fo seem to plan, talk with others that have skills, willing to be them selfs. And you put it all together you have a great series such as a sitcom. They are serious and funny. Sometimes crazy and not smart but their friends check them. Got love them. Like Friends meets Three Stuges meets Gilligan's Island.
