That Austin Healey @1:21 has some advanced safety features..automatic air brake in the form of opening doors when going backwards after spin, good stuff!
I thought it was an automated euthanasia system for the driver, should he actually crash into something.
The best thing that surpassed all safety features, was the ‘auto eject’ when the car (and many others) rolled over. Even going back to the DeLorean. It was never crash tested properly and then they found out when it was on its roof no occupants could escape for eg fire/drowning as the gull wings couldn’t open upwards! ‘Back to the futu….’ Drawing board!
@@stumpusMaximus I remember the Lamborghini Countach had the same issue when rolling over, so they had the brilliant idea to supply it with a tiny hammer which wasn't even good enough to crack a nut, to smash the front windscreen lol
@@randomsurfer3963 Maybe they made the front windscreen from tempered glass. It's dangerous for this purpose, but under such condition, the hammer would have worked.

Saw some amazing machinery at the Classic, spent all 3 days there then laps myself, with a slight thought of any oil spills after them but was all good! Well, from the classics atleast 😂

Beautiful cars beautifully driven. Thank you. This had made me want to reread Moonraker and Casino Royale, for the bits with Bond in his supercharged Bentley.
that's what I think about when I watch videos like this and the goodwood revival races too! I wonder if fleming ever considered writing a bond book partially set during a grand prix or other race.

Cracks me up how slow the crashes are... we've come a long way! What is that ersatz silver arrow type thing bmw? Never seen the like. Super cool to see a Bentley blower and the little Bugatti out there!

That particular part of the course is super tricky. I've raced it on GT5 hundreds of times.

Surprising that so many of the classic cars are right hand drive.
I think it is because usually they raced clockwise, so it's better weight distribution for right hand turns
The most old car thing ever is the door opening on spinning.
The Austin 100 door opens . This happens with these old 50's and 60's cars .

It's time he learned to drive that Austin Healey 100A, or better still take the keys off him before he wrecks it, They have ladder chassis with a very twitchy and very light back end.
That Bentley Blower is worth 12million euros.

It takes some seriously massive cohones to drive those pre-war classics around a track like that.
I think you must have to have a lot of trust in your fellow drivers to race these cars. they are so valuable (culturally and historically as well as financially), they are a labour of love, and the drivers have so little safety equipment. if you are a reckless driver I imagine you stop getting invited very quickly!

whats with the camber on these cars?
Some static positive camber, different tire carcass construction among many other details. As cornering forces rise the tires roll in concert to maintain contact patch and progressive handling. Watch some of the Goodwood revival races - you will be surprised how agressive ... and exciting the corner action is.

Keep a wide angle on the "S" turn. That's where the action is all the time. Nothing exciting about cars running down the straight.

I have to assume that if you're going to race it, you can afford to fix it.
all this negative camber on the front tires...what where they thinking at the time? i mean for real there must have been a reason for it or physical thought process about it.
It is done so that the steering kingpin lines up with the contact patch of the tires, to lighten the steering. Also, the cars were inherently oversteery as they use live rear axles, so the negative front camber introduces some understeer to wash some of it off...
Some are being very well driven , others ,well need some work on their lines

I understand they are vintage .But why would you not have a roll bar ?.
A motorbike (or even a horse) also doesn't have a rollbar, yet people ride them.
Although some appear well driven, it looks like most behind the wheel in this video do not have a racing licence. Different racing organizations do have different rules, but roll bars on pre-war cars do look bad. Just folks out having fun with their old cars!
