It's a utterly minor and ultimately inconsequential scene, but a moment that has always stuck in my head is when Kakuzu reveals he picked up Hidan's ninja headband and hands it back to him, telling Hidan that his neck scar was an eyesore and to cover it if I recall correctly. Then Hidan basically nudges him on the shoulder and goes "Ah, you DO care :3"
I just really like that scene, maybe in part because it was such a minor and inconsequential scene. These are two of the most vile characters in the series yet in that little exchange it was just an oddly pleasant moment between two odd couple partners.

Dont get me wrong the majority of the current iteration of the Akatsuki are (for lack of a better word) vile. But i always loved how (not counting Orochimaru) they all had this "honor among thieves" mentality to them. They never really betrayed the akatsuki even when it was in their best interest and even among certain pairings they seemed to (in a sense) cared or have respect for each other. @@Oera-B Deidara's art captures the essence of life's ever-changing beauty, embracing its fleeting nature. It's a powerful contrast to Sasori's quest for eternal ideals. Now, I don’t know if this was intentional by Kishimoto or not, but this dynamic mirrors broader cultural beliefs: Japanese culture cherishes impermanence and the ephemeral, influenced by Buddhist philosophies and ideas, while Abrahamic faiths such as Christianity or Islam seek eternity beyond the transient world. You could almost say Deidara represents Eastern philosophies whilst Sasori symbolizes Western beliefs.

@@MrOiram46 Yes but it's important to recognize that liberal values are relatively recent compared to what we consider "traditional" values. Historically, philosophies and worldviews such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Shinto (using these terms as broad categories) shaped the Far East. In the Western world, Christianity and Islam-often seen as rival religions-dominated, each deeply influencing their respective cultures and societies. Even today, many people maintain their religious beliefs, which of course reflects the enduring nature of faith.
Liberal and Western values began to emerge more prominently in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. And even then these ideas arose not out of a direct opposition to religion, but rather in response to the perceived corruption and hypocrisy within the Catholic Church, which led to the rise of various Christian denominations, including Protestantism, in the 16th century. For Europeans, adapting to these new values and establishing a separation between church and state was a gradual process, with religion remaining a significant aspect of life.

What I loved so much about the Akutsuki, the way Kishimoto wrote them originally, is that they meant business, and for the most part, they were inconsolable and ruthless, but the scariest part about them is that they acted with purpose. They weren't just a ragtag collection of powerful rogue ninjas who were out for personal gain, they were serving something higher than themselves.

I’m not sure that Kisame ever changed. He was a man who realized somebody had to do the dirty work. Somebody had to safeguard information for the greater good, at the expense of individual people.
Being that this was a moral good in his eyes, he was vicious and morbidly proud of his record.
He believed in this code so deeply and truly, that he let his sharks cannibalize even himself to not let intel fall into the wrong hands.
That’s Kisame to me: a true shinobi who followed his twisted code to the last.

      But you have a point.
He had to choose self sacrifice for the first and last time.
I guess I’m just more impressed by Kisame’s lack of hypocrisy in sticking to his code. It’s real easy to say “people should die before giving up intel.” It’s another thing entirely to hold yourself to that standard.
The flashbacks in those episodes also subtly hint at some guilt and regret he may have about killing his former comrades. So there’s definitely some truth to your interpretation too.

I think this also illustrates why Narutos Ending and by extension Boruto fall flatt in certain areas. The hidden villages were run on conflict, they even killed each other at times, but now these conflicts no longer exist and there just are no issues because of it? All the money that was made through the war, no longer supports the villages and no problems arise from that?
I don't think that issue is ever really adressed and it just makes this very complicated problem of a system that is kept alive by blood seem so easy to dismantle. "Just stop fighting each other lol" shouldn't be the entire answer.

There are problems between nations because of it, especially in Shikamaru Retsuden where they were 1 step from 5th Great War and Shikamaru openly threatened to kill Tsuchikage and Mizukage in middle of the Summit after catching them in Shadow Possession.
Moreover there are tensions between smaller nations like in Shikamaru Hiden where they try to oppose Shinobi Union due to their monopoly in missions or large terrorist group being very upset over Naruto stopping Infinite Tsukuyomi forcing them to go back to reality while poverty strikes them down so badly that their children die due to no money for healthcare.
It's just that Boruto would rather concern itself with... aliens. But the novel stories are usually fantastic, give a proper follow up to the world and cast and expose realistic problem that could arise as an aftermath.

While I would much prefer if Naruto and Sasuke never got Hagoromo powers, and stuck with their well-earned KCM2 and EMS (because honestly, who can fight them at that point anyway), this is precisely the endgame Naruto content I’d want to read. That genuinely sounds like it respects the rest of the series, but I still can’t shake the feeling that the era of stability was handwaved a bit too much. -At least, I’d have liked if they explained that it’s a ‘Hashirama’ deal where nobody wants a war because Naruto exists.

I am more and more convinced, the Akatsuki were the good guys, if there is something like good and bad guys in Naruto. Arguably, they even united the fove nations with their actions. The overarching theme is whether people can understand each other and it is know for inteosucing back stories that made every 'villains' actions understandable. However, after seeing Nagatos back story, even just the few episodes, I felt like the big Konoha were the bad guys. If we had seen Nagatos story first, it would be hard to sympathize with Konoha. Of course, everyone did what he had to do for his village and his people.

Each of their strength is rooted from a very meticulous skill and logic. Their collective teamwork and intelligence is one of a kind. It only shows how great the writer is. @@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 Likewise, óbito for me is the saddest outcome of his beliefs. Itachi is a close second. If you really step back from the lore I truly believe he was a victim of his own genius. He had the mind and body of a legend but the emotions of a child. No matter how he rationalized it his emotional maturity lacked enough to always influence his choices. His heart in the right place but his loyalty to the village and his desire to be a sin eater destroyed him which is why he rubs me the wrong way if I think about him too hard now. Óbito to me was indoctrinated and manipulated in a cult like fashion by Madara. Orchestrated events and plots took his team and first love away taking his only stability away from him at the same time betrayed by watching Kakashi be the one to do the worst of it by the time he really looked up he had murdered countless people destroyed lives and lost his soul to a dream that never came to pass. All because a man out of his time refused the natural order of the world he was born into and couldn't reconcile the fact that you can only do so much and there will be things that are beyond your life that you have to accept. For me Sasori and Kisame are the best Akatsuki, because both symbolize the ideal shinobi, who becomes a desensitized weapon at the service of his village, but both end up tired of that lonely and meaningless life.
Sasori and Kisame end up resenting their villages for the same reason, for having lied to them and for having turned them into killing machines, and the despair of learning that all the murders they had done had been pointless and meaningless.
And they have in common the fact that for them Akatsuki is a new form of identity and meaning, with the ultimate goal of being able to end all the ugliness of the world (lies and weaknesses).

Another great thing about the Akatsuki I think, is besides the duality each pair shares in foil to one another, they are sometimes also pretty good foils for some of their opponents.
    Kakazu and Kakashi:
First it's easy to point out that their names sound simuler, also they both wear masks in front of their faces, making us link them.
Kakashi lost his dad due to him committed suicide after he failed a mission because his village hated him for it. The same thing happened to Kakazu even though he chose to become a rouge ninja instead of killing himself. On a sidenote it might be fitting to state that Kakashis dad, failed his mission because he chose to save his teammates, which we know later becomes a character ark later for Kakashi right before Obito (allegedly) dies. In contrast Kakuzu needs to kill in order to survive and become stronger, witch the chakra nature of others, again it might be fitting that Kakashi is famous for using a sharingang eye which wasn't his to begin with.
    Shikamaru and Hidan
Both have sleek hair pushed back, and exposed foreheads which is rare in the Naruto universe kinda.
It's poetic how the both have similar powers in the way one controls the other in a way, by mirroring each.
Watching them fight, we might get reminded of how Shikamaru won a fight in the chunin exam by leaning backwards quick enough, forcing his opponent to hit her head into a wall. Hidan as a similar power that requires less strategy, of inflicting pain and wounds on to others, by hurting himself.
    Deidara and Sasuke
Less can be said about Deidara, but it's clear that he seeks to destroy things and or disrupt or change things as a way for him to create "art". Or in other words killing and bombing is his raison d'etre. He seeks the honor of being the best at things, which is why he always wanted to best Orochimaru in battle which we learn after Sasuke kills him. Deidara fights Sasuke and even kills himself in the process only to be the one to best them both in combat. This ties to Sasukes ark in him considering what his revenge over Itachi is worth.
Sasori and Sasori or Kabuto or Kankuro?
It's poetically ironic that a man that has killed people and turned them into puppets get's killed only to be used by someone else as a puppet.
This one is tricky but, but becomes very clear after Kankuro uses talk-no-jutsu on him during the war ark.
I also think it's fitting that it's the second time Kankuro uses one of Sasoris puppets against him.
    Naruto and Nagato/Pain
Again two simuler names, also they are both Uzumakis. It's also no mistake that Pain has orange hair which makes us connect the character with Naruto. Which leads me to the next example..
    Naruto, Kakashi, Sasuke and Obito
First let me point out that Naruto and Obito again look very simuler and again are one of the few orange characters in the series.
Obito wants to be hokage and is a clear foil to Naruto in they way he has given up on love and affection for the rest of the world after he has been trough enough hardship. He also abandons the village to join a more powerful rouge ninja, who is just using him, just like Sasuke does before the start of shipudden. Kakashi and Obitos duality speaks for it self.

This was really well done. Since finishing shippuden I’ve thought the weakest reason for their actions in the akatsuki came from deidara and kakuzu. Deidara with his sick version of art that we don’t really get an explanation for. Out of all the akatsuki he is the most mysterious. Where his ideals come from and the root of his trauma is a complete mystery. Deidara’s issue seems less to be art but madness it’s self simply for the fact that we have nothing to ground his ideals.
This changed my mind on Kakuzu. Him and Hidan are actually exactly the same. Their actions come from a wish for permanence. Something they have in common with Sasori. Kakuzu gaining permanence in peoples greed with wealth and stature being something he thinks could never betray him while Hidan gained permanence from religion. Through devotion, like Itach and Kisame, to his lord he knows he will never be forsaken, unlike Itachi and Kisame who know the only loyalty they can count on is from themselves.
