Britt, I have 2 short stories for you about this subject. I have 2 older Sisters, and when we were growing up, there were times that my Sisters got into verbal and verbal/physical fights with my Parents. I remember one such time that it happened with the middle child, after things calmed down enough, my Dad came to me and said, "It won't be like this with you, if you ever do anything like this, we are going out on the street."
Another story is that my Dad came to me and he told me that he doesn't want to mess with me, and if something did happen, that I would kill him.
I love the jokes, its fun to picture some guy trying to take on dad. But in reality, the idea of fighting with my dad has never ever crossed my mind. I Just can't imagine it. Too much respect for the man.
When I was 15 I told my dad I thought I could take him. And his WWII Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Master attitude kicked in. He said, "Ok. Let's go into the backyard." He had that scary calm voice. Unfortunately, I didn't pick up on it.
So, we were in the backyard. He took an "at ease" position and told me to take my best shot. I squared up, pulled back my fist...and dropped it to my side saying, "I can't."
"Too bad. I can."
Next thing I know, I'm on the ground on all fours gasping for air. I NEVER saw it coming. I don't even think my brain had time to register the pain. I was down. I turned my head up toward him and he said, "When you get back up, come into the kitchen and we'll talk." I learned a LOT that day. LOL

I'm 30, 6'3 and with a lot of muscle. I wouldn't dare to fight my old man! He's as big as an ox and could probally kill one if he was mad, hell no!

I had a friend who got his mom hand-rolled smokes for Christmas. Could not be me. There's ALLLLLLLllll kinds of people in this world! Young men do buck up at some point, but most of the time it comes out in competitive sports - backyard football, basketball, etc. Reminder to the young men out there. Dad don't play.
True story both my parents were in the military. At 14-15 yrs old I was sitting next to my mom messing with her calling her old and slow while I kept backhand hitting my mom's knee leg. All she said after I hit her about 5 times was "be careful cause I can kill you". I hit her once more and in the blink of an eye my mother chopped my throat so fast I was shocked and choking simultaneously. Funny as I write this I'm remembering this story visually and smiling. Miss that woman sometimes.

I think there is a time when us males think we know everything around that age. Especially pre-social media. Where you think you know better than pops and you want to claim your independence . That's when pops teaches you what the real world is like. In this case it will kick you in the nuts. I look back at mine as a right of passage because you lost, but you stood for yourself. Also, the dads out there always offer an avenue back because when the heat cools off, they normally talk to the son. This is the bigger lessen because it is a healing and the internet nowadays, does not allow this because people go on knock down a person and then move on to their next one. There is no reconciliation attempt. LA is going to a phone free school day. I think this is a great idea. Social interaction with real people.
My dad was a WWII and Korean War vet. So uhhh...no. No, I did not. He also unfortunately passed when I was quite young.
My mama on the other hand...all 4-foot-8 of her... you did NOT want to get on her bad side. Her older brother, himself a Navy vet, said she was the only person on the planet he was truly afraid of. I made the mistake one time...ONE time... of bowing up on her. Not to fight her, just to show I wasn't afraid. Keep in mind her size, and the fact that I was 6'2" and about 225 at the time. There was a queen sized bed behind me, and that woman hit me so fast and so hard that I cleared the bed and didn't touch mattress on the way over! I had a new found respect after that, for sure! 🤣

I was born in 59, my dad grew up in West Virginia farming with horses. Look, he didn't take crap from nobody. And he never wanted kids. Fun times back then.No child protective services were ever called if they ever existed. You kept your trap shut and that was it or he would hurt you, put your head through the wall or bounce you off a ten foot ceiling. I remember when my next to my youngest brother fell and broke the cast on his leg. He walked over asked him if he was ok,then punched him in the eye. Thar was one of the few times we ever went to WV. On the way to the hospital his mother asked how did Jeff get a black eye and he said I hit him, because he knew how mad my mom was and I never saw him hit a woman, mom would have said we're going home you stay here I'm divorcing you. My dad passed away from Alzheimers and I helped take care of him. Talk about a pain in the butt sometimes because he still had the same personality. Anyway it was hard seeing him go like he did. Then in 2022 my mom passed away while I was caring for her from cerebral hypoxia. I was devastated. My siblings weren't though. I can't go there.
he actually has a podcast with his son jacob, the one these stories are based on. jacob just turned 29 i believe. he has also started doing stand up, starting out with joinng josh on stage and now doing things on his own a little bit. his podcast is called hey maaan
My Dad is WELL into his 70’s and he’d slap the taste out of my mouth even now if I even thought a disrespectful word in his it Mum’s direction.

Definitely would not fly in my house as a kid. I work with my dad, we build cars at a home shop. I'm in my 30's now BTW, and if I cuss around my dad to this day he'll say "watch your mouth." I lost my temper trying to bust loose this upper control arm on an old Chevelle a year or two ago and started cussing and my dad says "watch your mouth" so I get really pissed, I'm done, I walk up to him and I'm like "you fuckin do it then" and go to hand him the wrench and he doesn't grab the the wrench, he grabs my entire fist and squeezes. I just about fell to my knees and he just says "watch your tone when you're speaking to me. Give me the wrench." I was like "Dad, I'm trying. I.. I cant...I cant give you the wrench." He says "why not?" I try to say "Because you're crush... you're crushing my hand." He just goes "yeah." And lets my hand go. My dad is 66 years old. When I say it was like having someone tightening a vise on my hand I'm not kidding. Old man has like hydraulic strength, it's ridiculous. I've done MMA, done powerlifting, still go to the gym 5 times a week, I'm not a small man but that old man strength is real, especially old man hands. My hand was sore for like 2 weeks after that crap. My mom was the total opposite as a kid, she's a little more chill now. She has a mouth when she's mad and she'll dress you down like a drill instructor having you "yes ma'am" "no ma'am" in 10 seconds but'll just keep goin...and then new chores to ruin your day... maybe month. When we have family barbecues me and my sisters all still panic like she's getting home from the grocery store and we didn't clean the house or do chores.
I know this makes my parents sound mean or whatever but they're actually hilarious and really sweet but by god you better not come at em in anger.
Maybe that's just having country parents, idk.
My dad was my Jr. Golden Gloves boxing coach and I had seen him take on a whole bar and walk away hurt but still standing so no I never had that thought. But my cousin sucker punched his dad and got knocked the blank out. This was the 70's, things were a bit different, I think better but others don't, anyways those times are gone now so who cares.
My daddy's only man I was ever scared of. I made him mad one time when I was 18 years old and he met me at the front door and slung me the 10-foot across the room and me not touching the ground once landing on the couch and he was on me before I could realize what the fuk happened. Dads don't have to prove anything to themselves when they do this it's about proving to their son they are not grown enough yet to do what the hell they want to do. My dad told me a story him challenging my grandfather to a fight when he was 17 and grandpa said let's step outside and my daddy turned his back on him to walk out the door my grandpa's kicked him down the steps got to the bottom hitting twice and asked him if he had enough which my dad said he had plenty sir.

I got chippy with my dad when I was in high school enough to make him mad. He was a little dude, but he was feisty, and he squared up to me, and that was enough to make me back down. I respected him because he was my dad, but I also knew he was ready to take it to old-man next level, and I was not prepared for that. This makes me think of my black buddy who has a son who is biracial, and the white mom was all about time-outs and talks instead of ass-whuppins. So one day, his teenage son was acting a fool and thinking he's in charge and my buddy told me the kid was about to experience the shock and awe of "black daddy" for the first time. Never had that kind of problem with his kid again.
It's an authority thing. You allow your kids to win just once you'll never be able to get them to listen you to ever again. It hopes in the animal kingdom.

Watched him in Vegas, his Son Jacob was there as well doing a bit. After the show I sat outside figuring out what to do(vacation) and where to eat, while I'm standing there, I look up and see them, as well as the other 2 comedians that were on stage. I had to get a pic. Cheesy I know but wth, doubt I'll ever see anyone like this again, 2 days later I met Carrot Top, it's was Vegas, all kinds of people....
Its kind of a pecking order thing. You see it in the wild also a lot. For example that's why young bucks fight, to see who gets the herd. The leader (dad) has to show/prove that he is the strongest and smartest to keep things under control. You see it all the time. Some households have tried the time out thing, the grounding thing. Most of the times it leads to kids running wild all over the parents and disrespecting them. You can be friend-ish to your kids but sometimes you have to remind them who holds the keys to the kingdom. If they don't know or think you know what you are talking about or can handle even them, the respect and willingness to learn goes out the door. Do I promote it - no. Would I had backed down if I had a son - hell no. Sit in the corner and think about it doesn't work. All they are thinking of is ways they are going to get back at you.
There again. Some of us were blessed with the Dad voice. Every kid knows that voice. When it comes out, instincts make you straighten up fast and pay attention before you even realize it.
I was 16-17 when I swung on my Dad .. I connected, Dad spit out his false teeth , but Mom cracked me in the head with a 2x4.. I miss them :(

its not that fathers feel like they can still keep up and hang and all that. as a father why you "go hard" on your kid is to show that you are that authority and still can put the hurt on if need be.
beacuse if you as a son get the upper hand on your father, you will start doing "all the shit you want", and lets be real here most of that shit isnt good for you as a person or longer down the road.
I would never try to fight my dad. He knocked me out in high-school. Cause I snuckout the house to go to a dance when I was grounded. He was waiting for me in front of the house...next thing I remember I woke up on the couch he said go ahead and eat dinner.
So I got to an age when I knew I was stronger than my father so I challenged him to wrestle. Well little did I know my dad wrestled in high school so he knew some technique. He pinned me so fast I was shocked! Figuring he got lucky I challenged him to a best out of 3. The next match I took him serious and it lasted a lot longer but ended the same way! I figured i’d learn a little technique and come challenge him again so I did. My father refused to wrestle with me ever again saying I had 3 chances! I knew that he knew that it was because I would be able to beat him now but he could hold it over me if he never faced me again which he most certainly did! He never faced me again!!!😂😂😂
Born in '83. My older brother and i had both swung on our dad. I was 15, left home and never came back. Crazy thing is i call him everyday now. White culture craziness.
