- Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed a law on Wednesday requiring that public school classrooms in the state must display the Ten Commandments, reigniting a debate about the separation of church and state and the scope of the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. Looking back to similar precedents, Harry provides some necessary context.

Kind of ironic that the Presidential candidate and leader of Gov. Landry's party has broken virtually every one of those commandments. Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP.
Lotsa Democrats in the making:)
"Thou shalt not bear false witness" is the one he has broken the most. He just loves to commit fraud, perjury, defamation.. ..and just lie in general. He will even lie when the truth would serve him better. Who tf does _that?_
And is a poster child for The Seven Deadly Sins... and they say America does not do Irony.

Forcing a religion upon people is disgusting.
Political rape!
Yeah and forcing this pride crap is disgusting
@@marshall8627 agreed.
That's true
so tired of Bronze Age myths being forced on everyone. Freedom of religion means freedom from religion, as well.
Agree. It’s easy to see education is lacking in Louisiana.
In fairness, there is more to religion than bronze age myths, and also, a lot of the shallow thinking that can affect religious folks can just as easily infect non-religious folks. But that said, this move by Republicans is such a slippery slope towards the Christian Taliban that it's scary as hell.
I just saw a post of .. they want the Ten Commandments.. but will withhold school lunches for kids that don’t pay to eat !
WWJD. Certainly, their Prince of Peace would reject this.

There are millions that are not running away from the concept of God … they are running away from these “churches” and the people that are in the that claim to follow the teachings of God. They don’t, or do not want to see that there are many who believe.. but have no interest in their kind of “loving cruelty “
Remove this man from office ,lock him up.
Isn't the speaker of the house, the one who lies continuously in the media to the American people, from Louisiana?!
He is!
Yes, he is. Sadly, a lot of voters support these unconstitutional policies.
Also evangelical. Enough said.
Yes
The people of Louisiana should be upset at their governor for wasting taxpayers money.
How's that infrastructure in Louisiana? How's your school's and hospitals? Probably pretty terrible. Go Louisiana, worrying about the important things.
These people.
Notice always certain states ?
Have you seen the recent voting behavior of the citizens of Louisiana? Especially, New Orleans parish? Voting percentages / turnout for the African-American citizenry is abysmal. The citizens there just don't seem to care. Seems they've gotten use to being willing participants in their own extinction.
Recall this governor
The GOP, Maga and Supreme Court justices should be required to read and adhere to these 10 commandments.
Reading and following them are two different things.
These people are not in the business of actually reading the Bible they are simply in the business of holding it up to express their piety and their perceived position on things, no matter how wrong they are.
yea, that's gonna happen.
@@PacesIII Their leader sells cheap Bibles from China to his adoring cult members, while breaking every commandment in the book.
And contemplate over which 5 out of the 10 felon trump has and is violating, some of which every single day his mouth moves.
In as much as the Supreme Court is illegitimate, this will become the law of the land. Separation of church and state is over. 😤 Vote blue 💙.
Freedom of religion should never be interpreted as freedom to inflict one's extremist religious beliefs upon others.
I hope someone sues the STATE !!!
Many /All of us with thinking ability must sue them! Everyone who has active brain waves! Hands off MY CHOSEN BELIEFS & LEAVE MY CHILDREN ALONE!
I believe a lawsuit is already in progress. Unfortunately, I live in Louisiana, but my vote did not elect this ignorant, arrogant man. His actions will cause a lot of people to leave this state. It's already happening.
I think that’s the whole point. They want to be sued
Guaranteed. And the state will lose.
Not so fast Sparky, first there has to be an injured party, orherwise any lawsuit goes nowhere.
You gotta love how proud they are of their little bill though, bless their hearts.
Hopefully the Church of Satan will sue to have a statue of Baphomet in at least one school.
Those "good christians" aren't using public funds, so this is their work around the exclusion clause.
Baphomet would be financed the exact same way, so legally what's good for the goose...
Louisiana ranks highest in drug overdose deaths and is one of the poorest,, most unhealthy states in the country. Lawmakers in the state are failing their constituents.
And dumbest! So sad for their children that live there...
I'm a Christian, but I don't think the 10 Commandments should be posted in the classroom. They are essentially religious, and the State shall not endorse or enforce any religion. Now as far as a decaying culture devoid of character and common morality, this should be addressed by teaching youth the difference between right and wrong, yes, in school, but without religious texts or materials.
YES!!! Thank you !
It would be nice if parents could teach them from youth, preferably with a good example of a kindly, honorable life.
A refreshing attitude. Not often shared by the religious.
Yes, a moral foundation is not established by religion. Anyone thinking otherwise is a moral failure.
@@libbycollins9349 Example is the ONLY way. Kids will know if the parent is a hypocrite otherwise.
Go Harry!!!
We love our Governor Jeff Landry. 👏🏻🥳
That’s insane when these people break most of the commandments. They want to turn our children into subservient robots.
Except the harder you beat religion into people, the less likely they'll have any faith in it.
Yes. I said this years ago when Covid came about
So much for the separation of church and state. Sorry for Hindus, Moslems and all other non-Judeo Christian Americans. What nonsense…
It's also illegal!
Nonsense, exactly.
Buddhists are with the Hindus: what’s going on in US?!?
Not to mention all the people who don't need to believe BS to make themselves feel better.
Oklahoma Supreme Court struck down a similar law.
Louisiana should lose all federal money and require churches to pay taxes.
If they are gonna go Old Testament they better stop eating pork, seafood and wearing cotton with polyester. Oh, and that stoning thing is back on the table...
I didn't know they had polyester clothing in the B.C.E.
@@erickborling1302 It says two kinds mixed, it doesn't specify. So yes. polyester doesn't get a pass.
Apparently you have never read the Old Testament, there was plenty of fish eating, the disciples were fishermen and there was no polyester@. The Old Testament is also about the Israelites and the laws there leaders imposed.
@cindycreateforlife
Honey, fish is not shellfish. And sub silk for polyester. Was just using it as an example. And I see you like to pick and choose what you want out of the old Testament. ..good for you!
If they want to put them in the classroom, they should also ensure elected officials follow them. Looking at you DT
Why do some people have a problem with recognising that “I believe this so you must do so as well”, is so wrong.
Because they are unconscious defenders of incest, hence all the projection about "grooming."

Building blocks of a throwback to building Aryan Supremacy.
This law is super crazy, but also perfect for broadcasting in swing-state Democratic ads about what the Republicans are up to where you put them in charge.

Is it so they can teach their children which ones and how many times Trump disobeyed them
False witness, adultery, coveting…
Wow! The heat has gotten to the legislators in Louisiana!
"Separation of Church and State"
Time for a little civil disobedience. What would the authorities do if the framed 10 commandments start disappearing from the classrooms? Just as political signs in areas that prohibit them disappear during political campaigns, individuals must take control
As a public school teacher, I can tell you that this is horrifying.
The PURPOSE is to get the case to the Supreme Court to have it overturn the ban on prayer in public schools.
If the Ten Commandments are to be displayed, so should the beliefs of every other religion.

They should also include moral principles from EVERY religion and secular organization.
Tenets of secular ethics
Human beings, through their ability to empathize, are capable of determining ethical grounds.
The well-being of others is central to ethical decision-making.
Human beings, through logic and reason, are capable of deriving normative principles of behavior.
This may lead to a behavior preferable to that propagated or condoned based on religious texts. Alternatively, this may lead to the advocacy of a system of moral principles that a broad group of people, both religious and non-religious, can agree upon.
Human beings have the moral responsibility to ensure that societies and individuals act based on these ethical principles.
Societies should, if at all possible, advance from a less ethical and just form to a more ethical and just form.
Many of these tenets are applied in the science of morality, the use of the scientific method to answer moral questions.
Thanks Harry for all your insights, very much appreciated, and the bit you always do at the end with “talk to you later” is so cute & yet reassuring at the same time so thanks for that too🙏😊
Well, that’s troubling. Forcing Christianity on non-Christian children is just wrong.
Guess you didnt learn how they came into existence huh! If you knew how those religions began you woukd help get rid of the satanists they are!!
Odd statement. You don't force christianity on christians either, and kids are not christian without it being forced on them in the first place. With some exceptions.
Those “adults in that room” ought to actually “show by example” by being forced to obey those commandments!!😡😡😡
It won't stand.
Shocking and awful.
Once again, out hearts break in all kinds of ways!
Can you imagine the governor of your state telling you that you are failures as parents, so now the State has to raise your children to be moral and upstanding?? There's that darn government overreach that you have been worried about since black kids got to go to your schools.
Hi! Saw you on Michael Cohen's show! It always great but hectic! Your show is much easier to listen to! You're safe analysis is appreciated.
The more religious, the poorer the state…
Fundamentalism is the reason that in Islamic countries most people travel by donkey.
Hi Harry! Sickening, isn't it? Yes! Un-Constitutional not to mention prejudiced.
I'd prefer kids drawing rainbows and favorite superheroes over the Ten Commandments....
It's a great initiative and it should be expanded: candididates to the US presidency (and all other politicians) should lead by example and abide by the 10 commandments as well. Specifically, candididates should be disqualified is they have breached any of the following: You shall not make idols, You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor, You shall not covet.
Who’s betting SCOTUS says you should believe the Louisiana governor’s intentions are pure?!

Does the governor know how many of these commandments the GOP nominee has and is violating?
… not surprising considering they are ranked 47th in education in the United States!
The 10 Commandments?
That's Moses, not Jesus.

This from the state where it's almost a prerequisite to have a criminal conviction to run for office....
Well there goes the JUST vote mantra 🤭😉
Democracy IS ON THE LINE!!!
Voltaire!
When the entire GOP adheres to these principals, then we could consider it ok in the classroom (along with any other religion who want to post such things). But when they are breaking more than half of these 'Commitments', then they don't get to dictate morality.
Also, the Governor WANTS people to sue him, wasting the states' monies.
When are lawmakers going to realize it's impossible to legislate religion or morals? Why is it so difficult for them to focus on the problems we have in this country and try to find solutions?
I went to conservative Catholic school even they didn't post the 10 commandments in every room.. this is horrible

No Golden Rule?? -I’m no religious expert, but somewhere in my Catholic school training, I learned that Jesus said that the most important commandment of all was what we call today the “Golden Rule” - treating others as you would want them to have treated you if the roles were reversed. That’s the one commandment that just happens to have a rendition in every one of the world’s religions; it’s the one commandment that these so-called “Christians” do not preach, do not display, and DO NOT FOLLOW. Their religion- which is not in any way, shape, or form “Christian” - in that it HAS NO EMPATHY FOR OTHERS - is nothing but a POWER GRAB. …and then they wonder why fewer and fewer people are going to church….
Exactly!
Ucla is already filing lawsuits
They have no standing , even I kniw that.
Yep. Seen this play before. Do something that has already been determined to be unconstitutional, have the lawsuit go up the courts, get it to SCOTUS and they will move this country further towards theocracy.
But the current supreme court doesn't follow precedent!
THAT'S NOT THE ONLY, RELIGION! I FORSEE, SERIOUS PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another example of flushing the constitution down the toilet.
Here we go again..

Excellent idea. Print all ten on the money.
I am REALLY looking forward to SCOTUS directly answering this question, if they end up supporting this Louisiana nonsense: what status do atheists have in the United States?
This is not about morals; it’s about power, and power needs to be equally distributed as much as possible in a democratic state. Some people are more interested in taking away other people’s rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness than they are in getting their own.
Four civil liberties groups will sue the state of Louisiana after Republican Gov. Jeff Landry signed a law Wednesday that calls for the Ten Commandments to be displayed in school classrooms. The new rule applies to any school that accepts state money, including colleges and universities.
So they're getting rid of the lunch program 🤔
They do know that Trump routinelly breaks every one of those commandments, right?
If no one sues, will Republicans sue to get it done nationwide?
Maybe Trump should have had to read these commandments in his school days, especially number 7 and 9..... (adultery and lying)
If you want your kids to get a good education, move to Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut or New Hampshire. Louisiana is ranked 40th in Pre-K-12 education.
Some have been warning us for decades this was coming. It boggles my mind these warnings were never taken to heart by those who could have/should have been doing everything in their power to foreclose these efforts then. Read Anne Nelson, Margaret Atwood, and Jeff Sharlet.
Best way to get a kid to ignore something? Post it on the wall.

What’s point of displaying the 10th Commandment when the children can’t read? Louisiana ranks 59th in public education.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said, as the crowd began to boo. He quickly added: “Although the Second Amendment people - maybe there is, I don’t know.”
One wonders which version of the text the Pharisees have mandated, Catholic or Reformed. Villages have been burnt to the ground for less.
I don't know why that move is winding everybody up.
It's very thoughtful to have ten condiments in each classroom; very convenient.
The very first commandment is “Do not worship any Gods before me.” It’s nonsense to say the commandments are foundational and not purely religious.

Probity
Integrity implies trustworthiness and incorruptibility to a degree that one is incapable of being false to a trust, responsibility, or pledge. Probity, which descends from Latin probus, meaning "honest," implies tried and proven honesty or integrity.
But Moses was an illegal immigrant and a fugitive from justice.
