Loved it Tim,loved all the buildings and little shops, shame the churches have been made into shops, the beach looked really inviting, you'll need a bucket and spade soon for Casper ,see you Sunday take care thanks 😊
Barmouth, also known as Abermaw or Y Bermo, is a lovely place. When I was a teenager it was the cool place to be; hanging round the fair by day and sneaking into the Sandancer club at night, when we perhaps weren't quite old enough... 😅 More recently The Dragon Theatre had great Jazz gigs in the basement. Thank you for showing what a beauty of a place Barmouth is, although it's just up the coast from me, I rarely get there these days, so I really enjoyed your tour.

This was my childhood destination, my Husband is taking me back in 10 days. This place is so special to me as it's where i would make the most special memories with my Grandparents from birth. Their ashes were scattered here just this year, they loved this place ❤ im so excited.
I’ve never liked those Russian dolls, they’re just so full of them selves. Love Barmouth I’ve been going for years I had a caravan over the estuary at Llwyngwril and there’s some awesome places to camp and take a camper van too locally, Harlech castle is a must ❤️❤️❤️
My grandparents had a house there when I was little so I used to go a lot. I’ve been a few times in the last couple of years and it’s still as nice. A lot of childhood memories there.

Just be careful parking in the pay & display car parks my hubby did the same as a lot of others did parked by the back wall but was on double yellow lines which were covered by sand lots of irate people later with £30 fines
My main Barmouth memory from 1965 as a six-year-old is the relentless pouring rain and the lamp post that made a dent in my Dad's car when he reversed into it! I have since learned that much of Wales looks a lot better on a sunny day, and that your tours are enjoyable.

Hi Tim. My husband and I got married in Ty'r Graig castle in Barmouth. It over looks that beautiful beach. And when our eldest daughter was young (she's got a newborn son herself now) we used to spend hours and hours at the harbour crabbing. It's just an absolutely blissful place to be/visit with some gorgeous restaurants. And as long as you have the weather for it it makes you believe you are abroad ❤
Aww how lovely❤,my late partner found us Ty r Graig,we loved it there when Janet and Khalid had it. My profile picture is of me and my late partner in the garden overlooking the beautiful bay ( sadly lost him ❤one month later July 2014). I still go every year but stay in a van on Suñnysands ) very relaxing and I have been lucky enough to have seen the 🦈🦈🦈
Barmouth is brill we first came as a couple on a Royal Enfield motor bike tent and all stayed the other end of the beach at Hendre Mynach camp site 40 years ago. Still visit there but in our camper its a lovely place.
Me too, I now take my own kids every year, I think there’s a lot of people that constantly return to the area as it’s so beautiful, I just got back from there after Easter weekend, stopped in my parents caravan just outside Barmouth at Talybont.
I lived down the coast in Aberystwyth a while back for a few years and visited Barmouth a couple of times, lovely beach! Borth, Ynyslas, Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and Newquay (the Welsh seaside village) are also really nice places to visit in summer along the western coast.

We're still here, it's more of the council etc abandoning us, it's just that most of the people that live here are old, they're unfortunately dying off one by one or being put in homes, or moving closer to family
Haha something no one will have to worry about for a thousand years. People have been sold a lie, look at Obama and Al Gore, spent years telling people about the sea rising then spent millions buying beachfront homes.
Barmouth is a lovely place , very scenic with a nice beach. The unusual thing about it though is that it seems to attract people with lots of dogs. Nothing against dogs at all, but the town centre doesn’t seem big enough for the amount of dogs who take their owners on holiday there. If you are a dog lover , then this would seem like paradise to you. It’s like a type of doggy Woodstock . If you are into lots of dogs this is your place!
@@WalkWithMeTim You’re right Tim. I think a lot less people are going abroad and taking their dogs on holiday with them. Good luck to them. Visited Llanberis for the first time last year. The weather was great and the place was beautiful. The whole of the Welsh coast is great.
Im from Barmouth My Dad Was Born There As Was My Nain, My Taid From Dol Barmouth Is Stunning. The Beach Used To Be Beautiful Untill Dome Idiot ( Not A Local) Threw Grass Seeds All Along The Front, Now It Can Not Be Moved. There Used To Be Butchers, Veg Shops Book Shop, Art Gallery, Coal Yard Meirions , Newsagents, WH Smiths, 2 Shoe Shops. Down Towards Harbour Was A Shop That Did Dancing Items, As In Ballet Shoes, Costumes, That Was Where The T Rooms Are, Even A Milk Man An Someone Went Round To Do The Pools, Was 2 Fairgrounds 1 Was Towards The Harbour On The Big Car Park. Now It Is Full Of Tat Shops, Too Many Cafe's an Pubs
I spent 12 years there and loved it. Would love to go back and live. It's a friendly place with lots going on in the summer. I've seen some of the. Best sunsets there. It's just beautuful.
Thank you for an entertaining video once again! Im going to visit the UK (mainly Wales and England) this summer. These videos of yours are really inspiring my friend and me of places to visit!
Barmouth is my favourite seaside town, I have been going there for 40 years and I have many fond family memories of the town by the sea, watching my children grow up, I never ever get tired of it. The very best place for a children's summer holiday, there's just everything there that you will need and great safe beaches for the children. The beach at Dyffryn Arduddwy , a small village on the road out of Barmouth towards Harlech is an absolute gem, fabulous for children , and you can park your car within 100 yards of the beach. Lots of rabbits in the sandunes! A great video Tim, but I will add a little additional attraction which I would suggest you visit which most visitors are unaware of. Walking down Barmouth high street take one of the back streets, and find Gloddfa Road, it's very steep, so beware if you have a heart condition, after about 100 yards you will start to see the wonderful views over Barmouth Bay, and on the right hand side look for a gate, and here I plagiarise from someone else's observations; Quote ' On the slopes of Dinas Olau above Barmouth is a small walled area. Known as the Frenchman's Grave, this is the burial place and memorial of Auguste Guyard, a French philosopher who came to Barmouth after fleeing from the Siege of Paris. On the wall is a plaque which says: Here lies a sower who Sowed right up to the grade, Truth, goodness and beauty, with idolatry, Through a thousand battles of the pen and of the hands. Such works in this world are not compensated for. The Frenchman's Grave is a good vantage point for views over the harbour, Mawddach Estuary and down the coast towards Fairbourne.' Unquote. Everytime I visit Barmouth I have to go there, and each time the climb is harder, but well worth it. Enjoy.
I absolutely love Barmouth, I visited a couple of times last year with my parents and my 3 kids. The eldest 2 are in their mid to late teens and unfortunately, they complain when I tell them that we are going to Barmouth again. They get bored easily, it's a shame they don't enjoy the simple things in life. I love walking around the little town, looking in all the shops and restaurants/cafes and just sitting by the beach. I would love to live there.
We camped at Talybont five miles outside Barmouth for over 15 years. Lovely area, well worth walking over the half mile long bridge at the side of the railway. Nice chippy as well.
At 11:18 you can spot a cafe that was originally called the Carousal but the C got stolen so many times (you can see the C half hanging off) that it's known as the Arousal Cafe. Eating at the arousal cafe sounds like a euphemism.
from 15 to 30 i had a holiday at least once a year camping and now im 50 and still go for the odd day trip even tho its a 100 miles away from me its nothing im a hgv driver i do 3-4 hundred miles a day driving anyway
I used to go to Talybont on holiday every year as child in the 60’s and 70’s and we’d pop in to Barmouth. When I was around 14, me, my brother and cousin went there on the train as there wasn’t enough room for us in the car. The trip was stunning along part of the coast and we came over the estuary bridge into Barmouth, where we were met by Uncle & Aunt and taken to the caravan site. Kids couldn’t do that today sadly. It’s been many years since I’ve been back, but this brings back a lot of memories as lately I’ve yearned to go back and revisit.
Barmouth was the last holiday I went on with my parents in about 1973. We stayed in the Min Y Mor hotel right next to the beach. Bombed across in my Dad's maroon Ford Anglia at night. Remember going through Corby and seeing the Iron Foundry in action. It took 10 hours to get there from Caister. Dad was concerned about negotiating 1 in 4 hills without the brakes failing or the clutch burning out. Spent many days on that lovely beach and watching the sun going down over the sea. Made 2 friends who liked Footy and Tennis, Belinda from Alveston & Richard from Dursley. After Mum passed in 2015 to join Dad, I returned with my wife in 2016. The hotel is still there and has been extended. Thanks Tim for reminding me of a brilliant holiday and great memories.
I’ve just returned from 4 days in Barmouth (March 2024). Here’s what I found: 1. It’s VERY SMALL. You can walk from one end of town to the other in 10 minutes - just a short-ish high street (a lot of the shops were shut ‘til the start of the tourist season) with a few off-shoots. That’s it. 2. Food is very expensive - £10 for a small cooked breakfast and that didn’t include a cuppa. Note: The staff in one Cafe ignored me totally - no eye contact or “I’ll be with you in a minute” - they just carried on serving the LOCALS - so I left. 3. It costs £9.50 for the half-hour return train journey to Porthmadog (a slightly bigger town that’s got a Costa and where I went every day). The trains are VERY punctual. You can also catch a bus to Porthmadog (33 mins past the hour opposite The Mermaid fish & chip shop). 4. Fish & chips are pricey, be warned. 5. There are only TWO charity shops in Barmouth so if that’s your thing, take note. 6. A slice of cake at a seafront cafe costs £4.50 which I thought was over-priced. Tea cost £1.80. My overall impression? Barmouth is a tiny town that accepts tourists reluctantly but locals would rather you shove off elsewhere (unlike Aberystwyth, my go-to destination in Wales) so I hardly spent any time there as I was so bored. It’s back to Aberystwyth for me!
Churches used to be citadel of protection , significant for establishing foundations of a country , Turning our backs on them ,has meant we've all become vulnerable to other marauders and faiths , WE reap now ,from bad choices , , I hope it's not too late to return to our forefathers solid ground . ❤❤❤
I’d never even heard of Barmouth and just had to visit after seeing this video. What a beautiful place . We had lovely weather and whiled away a good few hours on the beach
My grandparents have a caravan there and I’m going to be honest after going for nine years it can feel worn out having exhausted all the activities but it’s definitely worth a visit. Such a great place!
Great video and a nice place for a day trip. If you walk out of Barmouth, you can walk across the railway bridge. From there you can walk the Mawddach trail alongside the estuary; it is very beautiful. From the end at Dolgellau, you can take the bus back. Also, Cregannon, Lakes, a few miles away are worth wondering around.
Beautiful Barmouth the beach is better than Aberystwyth Remember Tim( Aber wrist wyth) 😂lt has got a lovely sandy beach unlike shingle at Aber.Charlie Brooks from Eastenders played Janine comes from there.Darwin,Wordsworth and Byron wrote of their experiences there.Dolphins in the bay as you come in by train.Lovely place nice shops.
I go to Barmouth alot, But it's the first time I've seen the Town with your Blog. Cheers I just sit out side a pub in town "people watching" then get the coach back to Prestatyn. Janet Kelly North Wales.
Wonderful video. I first came to Barmouth in 1959 when I was 5 years old on the train from Walsall, West Midlands. I remember getting off the train at Tal-y-bont Halt. We walked down the narrow stonewalled lane to a caravan site located just behind the beach. I have been in love with the area ever since and now have my own caravan located just off that lane I walked down those many years ago. Happy, happy sunfilled days.
I used to go to that caravan park every yr from 1958 to the mid 60's John, do you remember the big grey horse that used to look over the wall in case we had a carrot or apple to give it and the little rubber shoes we wore on the stoney beach. Happy times never forgotten.😊

You have a good memory. I visited about that time, and at about the same age, but I remember absolutely nothing.
My memory of Barmouth (only been there once, about 20 years ago) was of a wonderful Welsh seaside town. Now I see it's been gentrified I won't bother going back.... it's not Welsh any more.
The sand around where you sat and ate at the bath house is very very soggy under foot and isn’t really the place to swim..also for food I wouldn’t of gone where u went it would of bein isis . The place you call the rock is where I grew up..the bath house wasn’t the first house to be built here..the houses up on the rock where I grew up were .well over sea level..iv bein to Spain and never seen beaches look this good.those sand dunes have rabbits (hares) that live in their..the steam train thing is extremely rare and in 45 years iv bein alive and iv never seen one..also NEVER SWIM off the pier where you walked the tide will take you .iv lost a few friends along their and they were part of the RNLI .Barmouth bridge is also the oldest used wooden span bridge in Europe , could be the world .their used to be 2 a arcades in Barmouth but now one exsists .. the RNLI used to be buy Barmouth bridge..
Went as a Child with my best mate his parents in 1980. It was so hot and all's I remember was a huge bang and we all ducked down but alls it was was a RNLI flare gun signal because someone must of needed help, but I do remember running into the sea as an 8 year old and absolutely loving it ✌🌹🐦😀✌
Just to add a further funny comment about Barmouth, around 10 years ago when I i was there, the Carousel Cafe bar lost it's 'C' off it's sign, so it became 'arousal' cafe, and quite surprisingly, they were in no rush to repair it.
Absolutely worth a visit, I love this place. Would move there in a heartbeat if it didnt mean uprooting my daughter and moving her away from friends and family :( used to come here every year when I was younger. Took my daughter here last month for her very 1st holiday! We both cried when we had to go home 💜 maybe one day we wont return home from there!
one of my visits to BARMOUTH as a teenager came during my school summer hols when we went to our caravan in mid wales, my granddad took us to BARMOUTH for a day out as it was blistering hot not a cloud in sight, this visit would turn out to be a tragic day because back in the 70s the tide would leave a massive rock pool on the main beach not all that far from the breaker that separates the harbour and beach deep enough to swim in and i was in that pool, and i learned after i got back to the caravan that a girl had gone missing at the time i was there, and after an extensive search she was found by the large rocks that was there at the time she had apparently drowned after getting her foot stuck in some hidden rocks under the water, but i have been there many times since and the large rocks on the beach are no longer there and neither is the rock pool as the out going tide no longer leaves water behind
I just thought i'd let u know I have booked a 3 night stay in june with the wife and a couple of friends - always great to go to a place you aint been before !! cheers for the info Tim
Great video, enjoyed it.good to mention too that you can walk across Barmouth railway bridge to Fairbourn,or there are hire bikes available to ride across.
Hi. Tim I remember many years ago me and my late husband going on holiday here in our camper van we stayed at a lovely camping and caravanning club site I am hoping to go on a day trip on a coach in August it will surely bring happy memories back
Been visiting here since my 80s childhood. Has one of the cleanest beaches, and is a really sweet little town, with some amazing scenery. I hope it never loses its character or reputation
I've been to Barmouth yearly ever since I was a kid. It was our go to holiday home when we needed to get away from everything. We stop at Barmouth bay holiday park further down the coast. Surprisingly it's always pretty quiet and peaceful. Going for evening walks on the beach and watching the sunset with my family was always my favourite thing. Furthermore you just can't beat freshly made doughnuts on the coast. This year I turn 18 and we just went last Easter. Time flies way too fast. Now I'm about to take my a level exams next week and hopefully go to University. No matter what happens this will always be my happy place and seeing this video makes me miss it already. Can't wait to go back next year and sit for hours watching the tides.
What did you think of Barmouth?

Sadly the weather was dull and wet for two weeks😢
Are you going anywhere else, Tim? In the area at the moment, so could photo bomb a video!
lol yes in Wales?
Yes, Aberaeron at the moment.,,it’s very attractive
Its exactly how a seaside town should be… as close to perfect you can get without going to cornwall

Fairborne is actually slowly being abandoned as it’s predicted to be the first place in the UK to sink under the rising sea levels.
It’s a bit eerie at times because of that
Noooo
@@WalkWithMeTim I know :c it’s a real shame cause it’s a funny little place with the miniature railway
Oh man never knew that!
If you are into lots of dogs this is your place!
lol you will always find dogs at the seaside
@@WalkWithMeTim You’re right Tim. I think a lot less people are going abroad and taking their dogs on holiday with them. Good luck to them. Visited Llanberis for the first time last year. The weather was great and the place was beautiful. The whole of the Welsh coast is great.
I for one cannot believe the amount of dogs there are in general, let alone the amount that get taken on holiday!
Im from Barmouth My Dad Was Born There As Was My Nain, My Taid From Dol
Barmouth Is Stunning.
Come to Scotland!!🏴🏴
:-)
I spent 12 years there and loved it. Would love to go back and live. It's a friendly place with lots going on in the summer. I've seen some of the. Best sunsets there. It's just beautuful.
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you for an entertaining video once again! Im going to visit the UK (mainly Wales and England) this summer. These videos of yours are really inspiring my friend and me of places to visit!
you are welcome! Please do visit its small but a gem in Wales
Have a look at Solva ,their old welsh church..St Davids Cathedral will be apartments next im sure..the Bishops Palace Bed and Breakfast maybe..
On the wall is a plaque which says:
Here lies a sower who
Sowed right up to the grade,
Truth, goodness and beauty,
with idolatry,
Through a thousand battles of
the pen and of the hands.
Enjoy.
nice thanks for that David
I absolutely love Barmouth, I visited a couple of times last year with my parents and my 3 kids. The eldest 2 are in their mid to late teens and unfortunately, they complain when I tell them that we are going to Barmouth again. They get bored easily, it's a shame they don't enjoy the simple things in life. I love walking around the little town, looking in all the shops and restaurants/cafes and just sitting by the beach. I would love to live there.
Can u go to southbourne near Bournemouth, Christchurch beautiful little town &park , tuckton riverside
I have to say I love this place I've been here loads of times and going again today👍
We camped at Talybont five miles outside Barmouth for over 15 years. Lovely area, well worth walking over the half mile long bridge at the side of the railway. Nice chippy as well.
Thanks for the tips!
At 11:18 you can spot a cafe that was originally called the Carousal but the C got stolen so many times (you can see the C half hanging off) that it's known as the Arousal Cafe. Eating at the arousal cafe sounds like a euphemism.
They filmed one foot in the grave there
from 15 to 30 i had a holiday at least once a year camping and now im 50 and still go for the odd day trip even tho its a 100 miles away from me its nothing im a hgv driver i do 3-4 hundred miles a day driving anyway
Looks like I remember and would you believe I've booked a cottage for a week sept looking forward to it
I used to go to Talybont on holiday every year as child in the 60’s and 70’s and we’d pop in to Barmouth.
I come from Wolverhampton and love Welsh Wales in general, but particularly love Barmouth. Been there loads of times.
its a great place
Thanks Tim for reminding me of a brilliant holiday and great memories.
you are welcome! I had some great summer memories here too ;-)
Great memories!
and the mermaid fish and chip shop by the station is the best chippy there
:-)
I’ve just returned from 4 days in Barmouth (March 2024). Here’s what I found:
You want it much bigger and more commercial then
Churches used to be citadel of protection , significant for establishing foundations of a country , Turning our backs on them ,has meant we've all become vulnerable to other marauders and faiths , WE reap now ,from bad choices , , I hope it's not too late to return to our forefathers solid ground . ❤❤❤
Are you idiot? Nobody has turned their backs on them, but rather than the buildings sit empty they’ve been given a new life.
I’d never even heard of Barmouth and just had to visit after seeing this video. What a beautiful place . We had lovely weather and whiled away a good few hours on the beach
It's beautiful
Did you almost get hit by that car at the end lol
I know right
My grandparents have a caravan there and I’m going to be honest after going for nine years it can feel worn out having exhausted all the activities but it’s definitely worth a visit. Such a great place!
agree
Great video and a nice place for a day trip. If you walk out of Barmouth, you can walk across the railway bridge. From there you can walk the Mawddach trail alongside the estuary; it is very beautiful. From the end at Dolgellau, you can take the bus back. Also, Cregannon, Lakes, a few miles away are worth wondering around.
Thanks for the tips!
Lovely walkabout tim great drone shots
Thanks KK
I go every year..going next month..stay in a cottage close by its so nice x
Beautiful Barmouth the beach is better than Aberystwyth Remember Tim( Aber wrist wyth) 😂lt has got a lovely sandy beach unlike shingle at Aber.Charlie Brooks from Eastenders played Janine comes from there.Darwin,Wordsworth and Byron wrote of their experiences there.Dolphins in the bay as you come in by train.Lovely place nice shops.
Yes I bet was amazing bck then
I've got a classic motorcycle and am down to Barmouth today. Lovely run down from Bala and then back up the coastline - wonderful.
I bet thats great
I go to Barmouth alot, But it's the first time I've seen the Town with your Blog.
Happy, happy sunfilled days.
thanks John , hope u subscribed
I used to go to that caravan park every yr from 1958 to the mid 60's John, do you remember the big grey horse that used to look over the wall in case we had a carrot or apple to give it and the little rubber shoes we wore on the stoney beach. Happy times never forgotten.😊
You have a good memory. I visited about that time, and at about the same age, but I remember absolutely nothing.
My memory of Barmouth (only been there once, about 20 years ago) was of a wonderful Welsh seaside town.
Now I see it's been gentrified I won't bother going back.... it's not Welsh any more.
really
The sand around where you sat and ate at the bath house is very very soggy under foot and isn’t really the place to swim..also for food I wouldn’t of gone where u went it would of bein isis . The place you call the rock is where I grew up..the bath house wasn’t the first house to be built here..the houses up on the rock where I grew up were .well over sea level..iv bein to Spain and never seen beaches look this good.those sand dunes have rabbits (hares) that live in their..the steam train thing is extremely rare and in 45 years iv bein alive and iv never seen one..also NEVER SWIM off the pier where you walked the tide will take you .iv lost a few friends along their and they were part of the RNLI .Barmouth bridge is also the oldest used wooden span bridge in Europe , could be the world .their used to be 2 a arcades in Barmouth but now one exsists .. the RNLI used to be buy Barmouth bridge..
thanks for the tips
Went as a Child with my best mate his parents in 1980. It was so hot and all's I remember was a huge bang and we all ducked down but alls it was was a RNLI flare gun signal because someone must of needed help, but I do remember running into the sea as an 8 year old and absolutely loving it ✌🌹🐦😀✌
great memories!
Just to add a further funny comment about Barmouth, around 10 years ago when I i was there, the Carousel Cafe bar lost it's 'C' off it's sign, so it became 'arousal' cafe, and quite surprisingly, they were in no rush to repair it.
lol
Great video. Thinking of going to Barmouth this Summer. Looks lovely!
its a great place
Absolutely worth a visit, I love this place. Would move there in a heartbeat if it didnt mean uprooting my daughter and moving her away from friends and family :( used to come here every year when I was younger. Took my daughter here last month for her very 1st holiday! We both cried when we had to go home 💜 maybe one day we wont return home from there!
Absolutely
one of my visits to BARMOUTH as a teenager came during my school summer hols when we went to our caravan in mid wales, my granddad took us to BARMOUTH for a day out as it was blistering hot not a cloud in sight, this visit would turn out to be a tragic day because back in the 70s the tide would leave a massive rock pool on the main beach not all that far from the breaker that separates the harbour and beach deep enough to swim in and i was in that pool, and i learned after i got back to the caravan that a girl had gone missing at the time i was there, and after an extensive search she was found by the large rocks that was there at the time she had apparently drowned after getting her foot stuck in some hidden rocks under the water, but i have been there many times since and the large rocks on the beach are no longer there and neither is the rock pool as the out going tide no longer leaves water behind
thanks for sharing Anthony
I just thought i'd let u know I have booked a 3 night stay in june with the wife and a couple of friends - always great to go to a place you aint been before !! cheers for the info Tim
Nice .. enjoy bob
Iif you go at the end of the year and walk down the far end, waves crash over the wall at about 10 metres high. It’s exciting
I bet
Great video, enjoyed it.good to mention too that you can walk across Barmouth railway bridge to Fairbourn,or there are hire bikes available to ride across.
Thanks for the info!
Hi. Tim I remember many years ago me and my late husband going on holiday here in our camper van we stayed at a lovely camping and caravanning club site I am hoping to go on a day trip on a coach in August it will surely bring happy memories back
Sounds great!
Great little vlog ! Last time I was there I was 13 , forty- six years ago , " Zebra striped trunks " ! At least they weren't flared lol : )
Lol
Been visiting here since my 80s childhood. Has one of the cleanest beaches, and is a really sweet little town, with some amazing scenery. I hope it never loses its character or reputation
I totally agree!
Excellent review/vid. Been 6 or 7 times over the years. Twice from Porthmadog
:-) thanks David
Tim…can you do a video shoot of Aberaeron Cardiganshire….a visit is really worthwhile
ill take a look
Visited once, 1984. Camping. Rain rain rain rain rain… home early.
nooooo
Wow thanks for sharing
Spent many family holiday there has a kid. Now Take my kids there 3,4 times a year. Also cadair idris is near for a stroll
Loads of family holidays g
