Loved it Tim,loved all the buildings and little shops, shame the churches have been made into shops, the beach looked really inviting, you'll need a bucket and spade soon for Casper ,see you Sunday take care thanks 😊
This was my childhood destination, my Husband is taking me back in 10 days. This place is so special to me as it's where i would make the most special memories with my Grandparents from birth. Their ashes were scattered here just this year, they loved this place ❤ im so excited.
Been going to barmouth every year since I was a kid in 1988, I get the pleasure of now taking my kids and sharing all my memories. My favourite place in the world
We spent many a happy holiday just outside Barmouth. Stunning place, the beaches are amazing, all the way over to Harlech. Apart from some shops, nothing much has changed here in years. Thank you so much for this post ❤
Barmouth is a lovely mix of old world town, seaside and beautiful scenery. I love it ! Your film brought back happy memories of summer days spent there with my girls 😊
Barmouth, also known as Abermaw or Y Bermo, is a lovely place. When I was a teenager it was the cool place to be; hanging round the fair by day and sneaking into the Sandancer club at night, when we perhaps weren't quite old enough... 😅 More recently The Dragon Theatre had great Jazz gigs in the basement. Thank you for showing what a beauty of a place Barmouth is, although it's just up the coast from me, I rarely get there these days, so I really enjoyed your tour.
Spent many a day with the wife and children always lucky with the weather which helps. The bridge and estuary are a gem and maybe a mention for Harold Lowe.
Barmouth was the last holiday I went on with my parents in about 1973. We stayed in the Min Y Mor hotel right next to the beach. Bombed across in my Dad's maroon Ford Anglia at night. Remember going through Corby and seeing the Iron Foundry in action. It took 10 hours to get there from Caister. Dad was concerned about negotiating 1 in 4 hills without the brakes failing or the clutch burning out. Spent many days on that lovely beach and watching the sun going down over the sea. Made 2 friends who liked Footy and Tennis, Belinda from Alveston & Richard from Dursley. After Mum passed in 2015 to join Dad, I returned with my wife in 2016. The hotel is still there and has been extended. Thanks Tim for reminding me of a brilliant holiday and great memories.
Wonderful video. I first came to Barmouth in 1959 when I was 5 years old on the train from Walsall, West Midlands. I remember getting off the train at Tal-y-bont Halt. We walked down the narrow stonewalled lane to a caravan site located just behind the beach. I have been in love with the area ever since and now have my own caravan located just off that lane I walked down those many years ago. Happy, happy sunfilled days.
I used to go to that caravan park every yr from 1958 to the mid 60's John, do you remember the big grey horse that used to look over the wall in case we had a carrot or apple to give it and the little rubber shoes we wore on the stoney beach. Happy times never forgotten.😊

You have a good memory. I visited about that time, and at about the same age, but I remember absolutely nothing.
I used to go to Talybont on holiday every year as child in the 60’s and 70’s and we’d pop in to Barmouth. When I was around 14, me, my brother and cousin went there on the train as there wasn’t enough room for us in the car. The trip was stunning along part of the coast and we came over the estuary bridge into Barmouth, where we were met by Uncle & Aunt and taken to the caravan site. Kids couldn’t do that today sadly. It’s been many years since I’ve been back, but this brings back a lot of memories as lately I’ve yearned to go back and revisit.
My main Barmouth memory from 1965 as a six-year-old is the relentless pouring rain and the lamp post that made a dent in my Dad's car when he reversed into it! I have since learned that much of Wales looks a lot better on a sunny day, and that your tours are enjoyable.
I’d never even heard of Barmouth and just had to visit after seeing this video. What a beautiful place . We had lovely weather and whiled away a good few hours on the beach
Definately!!! I haven't been for about 10 years so great to see it on a sunny day 😎 An absolute gem of a town Harlech and Barmouth are my favourite beaches in Wales. And Fairbourne is worth a visit too. Watch out for Weaver Fish which have burrow under the sand in the sea and have spines which can give you a nasty sting.you go in the sea wear something on your feet About 2 hours from where I live and the drive there is breath taking. I liked it that much I got married a few miles away in Dolgellau.
Barmouth is brill we first came as a couple on a Royal Enfield motor bike tent and all stayed the other end of the beach at Hendre Mynach camp site 40 years ago. Still visit there but in our camper its a lovely place.
Been visiting here since my 80s childhood. Has one of the cleanest beaches, and is a really sweet little town, with some amazing scenery. I hope it never loses its character or reputation
June 2015 went on hendre mynach campsite & it rained every day for a week ..but been there many times with the kids & had lovely weather & we still love the place
I absolutely love Barmouth, I visited a couple of times last year with my parents and my 3 kids. The eldest 2 are in their mid to late teens and unfortunately, they complain when I tell them that we are going to Barmouth again. They get bored easily, it's a shame they don't enjoy the simple things in life. I love walking around the little town, looking in all the shops and restaurants/cafes and just sitting by the beach. I would love to live there.
I spent 12 years there and loved it. Would love to go back and live. It's a friendly place with lots going on in the summer. I've seen some of the. Best sunsets there. It's just beautuful.
Just be careful parking in the pay & display car parks my hubby did the same as a lot of others did parked by the back wall but was on double yellow lines which were covered by sand lots of irate people later with £30 fines
I’ve just returned from 4 days in Barmouth (March 2024). Here’s what I found: 1. It’s VERY SMALL. You can walk from one end of town to the other in 10 minutes - just a short-ish high street (a lot of the shops were shut ‘til the start of the tourist season) with a few off-shoots. That’s it. 2. Food is very expensive - £10 for a small cooked breakfast and that didn’t include a cuppa. Note: The staff in one Cafe ignored me totally - no eye contact or “I’ll be with you in a minute” - they just carried on serving the LOCALS - so I left. 3. It costs £9.50 for the half-hour return train journey to Porthmadog (a slightly bigger town that’s got a Costa and where I went every day). The trains are VERY punctual. You can also catch a bus to Porthmadog (33 mins past the hour opposite The Mermaid fish & chip shop). 4. Fish & chips are pricey, be warned. 5. There are only TWO charity shops in Barmouth so if that’s your thing, take note. 6. A slice of cake at a seafront cafe costs £4.50 which I thought was over-priced. Tea cost £1.80. My overall impression? Barmouth is a tiny town that accepts tourists reluctantly but locals would rather you shove off elsewhere (unlike Aberystwyth, my go-to destination in Wales) so I hardly spent any time there as I was so bored. It’s back to Aberystwyth for me!
Me too, I now take my own kids every year, I think there’s a lot of people that constantly return to the area as it’s so beautiful, I just got back from there after Easter weekend, stopped in my parents caravan just outside Barmouth at Talybont.
Never been. It looks lovely. It’s quite old-fashioned but with the new eateries and statues. Quaint. Far less brash than some of the other Welsh resorts. Nice place to go for the day or the weekend in good weather. What’s amazing is that there’s no plastic waste on the beach. Railway station entrance needs a lick of paint!
Hi Tim. My husband and I got married in Ty'r Graig castle in Barmouth. It over looks that beautiful beach. And when our eldest daughter was young (she's got a newborn son herself now) we used to spend hours and hours at the harbour crabbing. It's just an absolutely blissful place to be/visit with some gorgeous restaurants. And as long as you have the weather for it it makes you believe you are abroad ❤
Aww how lovely❤,my late partner found us Ty r Graig,we loved it there when Janet and Khalid had it. My profile picture is of me and my late partner in the garden overlooking the beautiful bay ( sadly lost him ❤one month later July 2014). I still go every year but stay in a van on Suñnysands ) very relaxing and I have been lucky enough to have seen the 🦈🦈🦈
I've been to Barmouth yearly ever since I was a kid. It was our go to holiday home when we needed to get away from everything. We stop at Barmouth bay holiday park further down the coast. Surprisingly it's always pretty quiet and peaceful. Going for evening walks on the beach and watching the sunset with my family was always my favourite thing. Furthermore you just can't beat freshly made doughnuts on the coast. This year I turn 18 and we just went last Easter. Time flies way too fast. Now I'm about to take my a level exams next week and hopefully go to University. No matter what happens this will always be my happy place and seeing this video makes me miss it already. Can't wait to go back next year and sit for hours watching the tides.
Stopped over in September 2023 in a motorhome ,the weather was fantastic and well worth a longer stay in the future ..sat at The Bath House with a coffee or two just admiring the scenery...
I’ve never liked those Russian dolls, they’re just so full of them selves. Love Barmouth I’ve been going for years I had a caravan over the estuary at Llwyngwril and there’s some awesome places to camp and take a camper van too locally, Harlech castle is a must ❤️❤️❤️
Been to Barmouth many times first time with 2 of my children in 1975. Have swum in the sea here, Came several times over the years Loved it. Remember the tornadoes flying down the estuary. Lots of memories. Not been since 1996. Must go back. Soon
Barmouth is my favourite seaside town, I have been going there for 40 years and I have many fond family memories of the town by the sea, watching my children grow up, I never ever get tired of it. The very best place for a children's summer holiday, there's just everything there that you will need and great safe beaches for the children. The beach at Dyffryn Arduddwy , a small village on the road out of Barmouth towards Harlech is an absolute gem, fabulous for children , and you can park your car within 100 yards of the beach. Lots of rabbits in the sandunes! A great video Tim, but I will add a little additional attraction which I would suggest you visit which most visitors are unaware of. Walking down Barmouth high street take one of the back streets, and find Gloddfa Road, it's very steep, so beware if you have a heart condition, after about 100 yards you will start to see the wonderful views over Barmouth Bay, and on the right hand side look for a gate, and here I plagiarise from someone else's observations; Quote ' On the slopes of Dinas Olau above Barmouth is a small walled area. Known as the Frenchman's Grave, this is the burial place and memorial of Auguste Guyard, a French philosopher who came to Barmouth after fleeing from the Siege of Paris. On the wall is a plaque which says: Here lies a sower who Sowed right up to the grade, Truth, goodness and beauty, with idolatry, Through a thousand battles of the pen and of the hands. Such works in this world are not compensated for. The Frenchman's Grave is a good vantage point for views over the harbour, Mawddach Estuary and down the coast towards Fairbourne.' Unquote. Everytime I visit Barmouth I have to go there, and each time the climb is harder, but well worth it. Enjoy.
We used to camp at the seaside estate in Dyffryn Arduddwy. Beautiful beaches and a lovely secure campsite. When we were children there used to be an old wartime lookout post near the entrance to the beach. Just back up the lane to Talybont there was a wonderful Italian restaurant called Tony's too. I love this little part of Wales ❤
I first went to Barmouth as a 15 year old in 1968, fell in love with the place and the surrounding area, seen many changes over the years but it still my favourite holiday destination ..Its great for young families and pensioners but no so great for teenagers etc.
I spent many many happy weeks in Barmouth kn holiday, love the place. Walk over the bridge its amazing. Also If you go to Barmouth, go by train, it's one of the most beautiful train rides in the country.
My grandparents had a house there when I was little so I used to go a lot. I’ve been a few times in the last couple of years and it’s still as nice. A lot of childhood memories there.
I have been going to Barmouth as a child since 1967. My parents owned and house just outside Barmouth and my Dad's side of family can trace his family back to the area from 1596. His GGG Granddad lived in a house in Harlech when the castle was occupied! Even now I still own a holiday home there and go back and forth nearly every two or so months to get from London. It's not so much the Barmouth, but the area. Also due to the position of Barmouth sandwiched between the sea, The Mawddach and hills behind it, it has remained pretty much as it was since 1960s! I have photos of Barmouth that my parents took in the 1960's and they are virtually identical to now albeit new cars and plastic windows. That's partly the allure! It never changes....
We camped at Talybont five miles outside Barmouth for over 15 years. Lovely area, well worth walking over the half mile long bridge at the side of the railway. Nice chippy as well.
I went to Barmouth many years ago it was lovely then so glad it's still lovely and pretty I remember sitting on a wall on the sea front thank you for showing us as I now have seen bits of Barmouth I have not seen before
My grandparents have a caravan there and I’m going to be honest after going for nine years it can feel worn out having exhausted all the activities but it’s definitely worth a visit. Such a great place!
I've been going to barmouth for as long as I can remember it is an excellent place to visit for a nice seaside town holiday, especially with children due to the fair and arcades I go camping here very year with my dad and we used to stay in my nan's caravan, its always a lovely visit and its a very nostalgic place for me personally there is so much I could say about barmouth, from the food and shops to the beaches, and everything I have done and experienced there, it is 100% worth a visit even just as a day out, it is lovely all round
As a North Walian myself, I'm a little ashamed to say I had no idea Barmouth was this nice! I went there a couple of times as a kid for days at the beach, but I'm thinking we couldn't have strayed too far from the vicinity of the train station. The actual town and harbour is lovely!
Hi. Tim I remember many years ago me and my late husband going on holiday here in our camper van we stayed at a lovely camping and caravanning club site I am hoping to go on a day trip on a coach in August it will surely bring happy memories back
Most definitely . I was in my late teens in the 1980s and was going further and further on my learner 125 motorcycle ...and after years of just seeing the mersey estuary coastline ...seeing blue sea for the first time with my own eyes was a revelation and i was never the same after that ....barmouth is a gem...north wales is a special place on earth
I been going to Barmouth since I was 6 months old and 4 times a year to the same campsite as well and it my favourite place so yeh I totally recommended to visit
I go to Barmouth alot, But it's the first time I've seen the Town with your Blog. Cheers I just sit out side a pub in town "people watching" then get the coach back to Prestatyn. Janet Kelly North Wales.
Used to go to Barmouth and shell island evey year when I was young, and now I take my son and my girlfriends children too. Excellent place to visit either for a weekend getaway or a week holiday.
@@WalkWithMeTim yea definatly, I remember going to the original rock shop when I was 10years old (I'm 34 now) and then spending an hour or 2 in the amusements on the 2p machines.
Have lived in Sydney for years , but Barmouth was the place I’d go every year when I was a kid growing up in London Love Barmouth, always remember the arcades and the fish and chips and Sangria restaurant as it was called back in the 70s, near the train station. takes me back this video , hope to visit again soon , thanks again for the video 👍
We lived just outside Barmouth in a small village called Llanaber it was our home from 1984 - 2000 it's a beautiful place that gave us many happy fond memories ❤
I have vivid memories of coming here when I was a kid. My step dads cousin runs a crabbing boat and I remember he had bought the old court house to renovate.
My father was best friends and worked with idris and pat pew ....... of inglenook cottages .......... i wonder ? Idris run a crabbing boat and pat sold dressed crab and fish goods at one of the sheds on the prom . She was an irish lady .
Been to Barmouth for the last 6 years and due to go again this August.. fantastic little place to unwind and enjoy the beech with kiddies!! park the car up on the campsite.. walk the promenade and presto your in town.. saves a fortune on fuel cost!! even climbed the mountains up to the flag!! friendly people and also very very dog friendly (Hes on holiday also)...
My favourite place in the world 🥰 also the nicest fresh fish and chips I've ever tasted was from The Mermaid. Delicious! Beautiful beautiful Barmouth ❤
Of course it's worth a visit, it my favourite seaside town. Thank you for going there Tim, and reminding me of what makes it so brilliant. I love that it never changes, and it never disappoints. What about the scenery too, isn't it beautiful? I wonder where you're going next 🤔 Aberystwyth maybe?
Been going to barmouth for years. I love it . We have our van stored in barmouth now . Can't wait for the summer holidays. 2 weeks in the mist gorgeous place Barmouth .
I go to Barmouth every year for the holidays and stay a week in the sunny sands caravan park I totally agree you feel like you’re abroad when you’re there with nice weather I go very often because it’s so gorgeous and me and my family love it there. Yes the water is super clear isn’t it but you can never beat the views in the holiday park where we go too . Great vlog pal ! 😃

My mum and dad loved Barmouth so much they moved there from Coventry. In 1963. II was 9 at the time. They ran a BnB up the hill next to Davy Jones’s Locker
I was taken to Barmouth on holiday when I was 7 and thinking at the time that it was the best place I’d ever been to. I’m now 62 and still waiting for my return visit! Maybe next year when I retire

Wow! This looks like a lovely place. Went there as a child with my parents but remember nothing about it. I'd definitely visit here for a long weekend if I wasn't on the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
What did you think of Barmouth?

I've got a classic motorcycle and am down to Barmouth today. Lovely run down from Bala and then back up the coastline - wonderful.
I bet thats great

My wife has been nagging me for years for us to visit this place... now after watching your video, it's on the list. Thankyou Tim 🙏
Have fun!
Been going there for years and never get bored of the place. Just love it
;-)
I spent most of my childhood here, I had some amazing summers here and still visit every year, it's beautiful 💖

Now I'm about to take my a level exams next week and hopefully go to University. No matter what happens this will always be my happy place and seeing this video makes me miss it already. Can't wait to go back next year and sit for hours watching the tides.
Wow thanks for sharing
Stopped over in September 2023 in a motorhome ,the weather was fantastic and well worth a longer stay in the future ..sat at The Bath House with a coffee or two just admiring the scenery...
I’ve never liked those Russian dolls, they’re just so full of them selves. Love Barmouth I’ve been going for years I had a caravan over the estuary at Llwyngwril and there’s some awesome places to camp and take a camper van too locally, Harlech castle is a must ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing!!
Been to Barmouth many times first time with 2 of my children in 1975. Have swum in the sea here, Came several times
over the years Loved it. Remember the tornadoes flying down the estuary.
Lots of memories. Not been since 1996. Must go back. Soon
you should Chris
On the wall is a plaque which says:
Here lies a sower who
Sowed right up to the grade,
Truth, goodness and beauty,
with idolatry,
Through a thousand battles of
the pen and of the hands.
Enjoy.
nice thanks for that David
We used to camp at the seaside estate in Dyffryn Arduddwy. Beautiful beaches and a lovely secure campsite. When we were children there used to be an old wartime lookout post near the entrance to the beach.
Just back up the lane to Talybont there was a wonderful Italian restaurant called Tony's too. I love this little part of Wales ❤
Looks so pretty, what a gem of a place! I’d never heard of it before but will be on my list now. The sandy beach is gorgeous🥰🥰
Yes this beach is beautiful
I first went to Barmouth as a 15 year old in 1968, fell in love with the place and the surrounding area, seen many changes over the years but it still my favourite holiday destination ..Its great for young families and pensioners but no so great for teenagers etc.
yes but I had great childhood memories here
We will be back once more in just over 3 weeks and counting .
Its a second home to me . I perhaps feel more comfortable there than anywhere else ! .
:-)
I spent many many happy weeks in Barmouth kn holiday, love the place. Walk over the bridge its amazing. Also If you go to Barmouth, go by train, it's one of the most beautiful train rides in the country.
Barmouth is a lovely place all year round. I have visited practically every year for over 40 years . Safe and clean ideal for families and individuals
I should make it clear I don't live in Wales
My grandparents had a house there when I was little so I used to go a lot. I’ve been a few times in the last couple of years and it’s still as nice. A lot of childhood memories there.
Absolutely love Barmouth. One of my favourite places in my favourite country. So many lovely memories of this place..
Love Barmouth very nice place . 1st visited Barmouth 1985 .really enjoying these trips you do .your little baby is so beautiful .☀️⛱️👍☕🌼
Mum & Dad took us to Shell Island, just a few miles up the coast for 15 years running, so I know Barmouth, Harlech, Lovely corner of the world.
Agree
I spent two weeks there, years ago. First week, glorious sunshine; second week, apocalyptic rain for seven days.
wow .. bet it looked diffrent
I love Barmouth with ALL my heart as i have been there hundreds of time, it is well worth a visit most definitely!
We camped at Talybont five miles outside Barmouth for over 15 years. Lovely area, well worth walking over the half mile long bridge at the side of the railway. Nice chippy as well.
Thanks for the tips!
I went to Barmouth many years ago it was lovely then so glad it's still lovely and pretty I remember sitting on a wall on the sea front thank you for showing us as I now have seen bits of Barmouth I have not seen before
You are welcome Sally
My grandparents have a caravan there and I’m going to be honest after going for nine years it can feel worn out having exhausted all the activities but it’s definitely worth a visit. Such a great place!

I've been going to barmouth for as long as I can remember
it is an excellent place to visit for a nice seaside town holiday, especially with children due to the fair and arcades
I go camping here very year with my dad and we used to stay in my nan's caravan, its always a lovely visit and its a very nostalgic place for me personally
there is so much I could say about barmouth, from the food and shops to the beaches, and everything I have done and experienced there, it is 100% worth a visit
even just as a day out, it is lovely all round
Totally agree tash
As a North Walian myself, I'm a little ashamed to say I had no idea Barmouth was this nice! I went there a couple of times as a kid for days at the beach, but I'm thinking we couldn't have strayed too far from the vicinity of the train station. The actual town and harbour is lovely!
wow! yes you can pass in the car and overlook
lol, probably best not to mention the Sandancer, a frequent in my younger days, it’s always been a quaint little go to place for us West Midlanders 😄👍
It was rainy and misty when I visited Barmouth and it was stunning. It would be nice to see it when it is sunny.

Agree

Wow! This looks like a lovely place. Went there as a child with my parents but remember nothing about it. I'd definitely visit here for a long weekend if I wasn't on the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
