  • It seems in the modern world that University should naturally follow further education in order for the graduate to secure a better paid and respectable occupation. However, the costs of a University education are high and many cannot afford them. As a result most will take Student Loans in order to meet their tuition costs. Mufti Sahib discusses the Islamic position on these loans. This is of interest to many individuals, especially due to the recent confusion as to its legal status as highlighted by one of our subscribers.

Yes they can but they have to struggle in the way of Allah. You think the believers are going to be left to say ‘we believe’ and that be enough?

    Tl;dl
The Shaykh states that student loan has interest on it, interest is riba, riba is haraam.
Rasoolullah ﷺ said: "The Halal (lawful) is clear and the Haram (prohibited) is clear, and in between them there are some things that are doubtful ,which most people do not know - if they are Halal or Haram - Thus ,whoever avoids the doubtful, safeguards his religion and honor, but one who engages in the doubtful, falls in the Haram."
Do not trade your aakhirah for the dunya my brethren.

Why are some sheikhs going around the bush?Just answer if it's haram or halal first! Then explain your reason! OMG.

Because certain impatient people like yourself would just be looking for an answer without an explanation and therefore spread this information without context.

If the Shaykh gave a straight response, you'd go seeking the philosophy and reasoning behind the conclusion.

@@hamzahrawat3479 apprenticeships are even more competitive than university degrees since they have less places and they’re a lot more specialised since they’re only available in specific industries.

I am going to uni this year and I have applied for student finance it's like £7300 a year. I really don't know what to do because I can't afforded to give this money myself for a year. It would be great if my Muslim brothers and sisters give me some info on this.

Student Loan is Haram by him; what he is saying that even if you earn exactly the same you borrowed, you have to pay inflation, which is haram. Ofcourse, interest is obviously haram which he said.
I do respect the amount of effort he went through to educate us but he is wrong on one point. If you borrowed something, you have to pay back its same value whatever the time it is, and that obviously includes inflation. If you pay the same amount after lets say after 3 to 5 years, the lender is in loss here, where's the fair in that? I thought riba was haram to make things fair for everyone??? This is the main reason why Islam encourages to give the same currency or actually the commodity item borrowed cuz they get this theory of fluctuation of value wrong.
Plus, its called an interest for a reason, where's the gain for the person who is selling or giving, why should he be 'interested' then?. By riba logic, even buying something of cheaper value in one market and selling it of a higher value by keeping a 10% markup and selling it another market should also be haram, (cuz he is selling of a higher value) how can one gain anything from this?
The only reason I can think of is that people at that time did not grasp how interest worked then, for them it was loan sharks like Abbas (RA) and other people getting into serious debt (Like Kaiji from anime) I hope he knew the dinar system they incorporated then was introduced by the roman pagans in 211BC. So if they used 'Fiat Haram Money' themselves, then I think we are pretty fine using our current paper currencies!
