Got an insane deal on the butterscotch blonde Classic Vibe ($249 Labor Day blowout sale two years ago), by far the best bang for buck guitar I've ever bought. I'd put it up against the Fender Player series any time. A few caveats. The pine body is a bit heavy, and the gloss neck might not be for everyone, but hey, if you can't spare the ten minutes it takes to rough it up with a little sandpaper, that's on you.
Agreed, I've a 2016 Pine body in Butterscotch that weighs over 10 pounds! It plays and sounds so great that the weight is just something I'll live with.
We need a "Heavy Guitar Appreciation Society"! I've always found them, all other things being equal, to have a clearer, more focussed tone which will cut through a mix better than their light-weight equivalents. My spine takes issue with this however.
@@voiceofexperience Ha ha ha, Good Idea Jeffrey. I've also had pretty good tonal experiences with heavier guitars. I own two of these, and regret selling the third one. The tuners just are fine. As good as my Fender ones. This is the most bang for your money on a Tele and pretty close to the original (I've played a genuine '54). The biggest differences are that the Squier is heavy (3.8-4.2 kg) and the original feels rougher to the touch because of the nitro getting worn exposing the wood. Poly will last 750 million years before showing any wear so the Squier will feel like new forever. I like that, even though I also have a Tele that briefly caught fire during a concert :)
I have had 3 classic Vibe CVC Custom 60s Telecasters I only have one now their hands down my favorite tele even over the American and Mexican Fenders that I've have over the years the value of these puppies are unbeatable really
Do you not mind the thick poly on the back of the neck? It’s the only thing I’m worried about. Everything else looks good on the 50’s Classic Vibe. Good split post tuners, Fender Alnico pickups, Bone nut, C-Shape Neck with 9.5” radius, 3 Classic barrel bridge saddles, string through body and ashtray style Fender bridge pickup plate. I wonder if it’s not hard to sand down the lacquer in back of neck because I really like the bones of this guitar. All I might upgrade is bridge saddles with compensated brass 3 barrel saddles, better output Jack, pots and cloth wiring, maybe different pickups (Seymour Duncan Hot Rails), file down nut slots and level/crown/polish frets and round over fingerboard edges for worn in comfortable feeling neck. Could be a hell of a guitar for not a lot invested, especially if you make the upgrades one at a time instead of spending all at once. I would love to see how it turns out after that.
Couple of nice things you played there. Can't take my eyes off the green wall-hanger...sometimes color brings different stuff out of a player; I'm in love with that one.
I too would like to get the Squier. You said these were Alnico Pickups. Are they Alnico 5 or Alnico 3? I plan on getting the Butterscotch Colored one. Thank you for posting this.
Been waiting for Sweetwater to restock the Sire T7s. Couldn’t hold off any more so I went with the CV tele. Comes in a few days. Hope it’s as good as everyone says!
I have replaced all of my Fenders with those tuners, just like the good ol' days. Lockers not needed. I wish they would have mounted the neck pickup to the body, like they used to not the pickguard.
These are great for someone who only kinda wants a Fender. I'm an SG guy and would never pay $1,500 for a bolt on with single coils. But, a good Strat or Tele at this price, I'd totally pay that for some variety.
@peterburi2727 Sure. With a Gibson. I have an Epiphone. Scarfed joint, less of an angle. Funny how the cheaper construction method is better and sturdier. Don't even want a Gibson anymore for that reason.
Great guitar…but MAKE SURE TO THOROUGHLY CHECK it over. I had multiple issues (bad volume pot, strap screws coming loose while playing live, and MULTIPLE frets that needed to be hammered down and one glued down by a tech. Eventually, I looked online and I ended up getting a new replacement tele from the shop where I originally got it due to Fender’s 2 year warranty. I love it (they are great sounding, loooking, and feeling) but take someone with you who knows what to look for if you’re not good at such things.
Not necessarily. You should compare both models as China vs. Indonesia versions use different pickups. Some say China models use Tone Rider pickups (though not officially is admitted)
Indonesian guitars are on pair with good fit and finish, those people over there in the Cort-Tek and P.T Samick factory are well trained at what they do and some of my best players came from Indonesia unlike the Chinese junk that I avoid like the plague!
I have 2 CV teles made in china that aren't junk. Better than the ones now made in Indonesia. Also a fender modern player tele made in china that isn't junk.
I have one of those cream coloured G400 epiphones with the 3 pick ups. I’m considering selling it or trying to do a swap for one of these Teles? Do you think I’ll regret it or love it? The G400s are going for around a little more than the cost of one of these Teles brand new price. I wish there was a music store locally rather than everything having to be online coz I can’t try one out or speak to anyone about doing a straight swap.
These were a lot better when they made them in China. Ever since they have switched to Indonesia they haven’t been as good. I had a Simon Neil classic vibe Strat I wish I hadn’t sold
They still build them in china...I bought two in 2021 a week apart... 1st 0ne was a butterscotch blond From Indonesia, the second one was white from china and both literally perfect...
@@ronpriest7135 I just haven’t been impressed with the wood grain on the blonde and butterscotch finished ones coming out of indo. Some look like cutting boards. The early China ones were using some really nice grainy pine that looked like ash.
The blonde ones are fitted with Alnico III's whilst the butterscotch models are fitted with Alnico V's. The earlier Chinese made butterscotch models were fitted with 'Tonerider' Alnico V's as stock.
I really appreciate it! I'd say all the great blues/rock players are my main influences - Albert King, SRV, Hendrix and while I'm not really a jazz player a LOT of influence on my sound from Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, John Scofield, Larry Carlton. But then I'm a total geek for Steve Vai, Satriani, Eric Johnson. I love love country guitar too. Can't forget Chet Atkins. Also Steve Cropper is a big influence. Young players like Marcus King now are incredible, he's my favorite at the moment. I also love classical guitar, Julian Bream probably was my favorite player and interpreter. This could be a very long comment so I'll just stop and say I'm influenced by too many great players to list haha thanks for watching. Who are you listening to these days?
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Oh wow I absolutely adore Wes Montgomery. The way he uses octaves. Very nice. I'm a huge Hendrix fan too. It wasn't until I discovered the Band Of Gypsies live album at Fillmore East that I discovered that Hendrix was way more versatile than just rock. These funk and soul based stuff like Power of Love, Stepping Stone and especially Who Knows blew me away. Because all you usually hear from him are his more simple hits like Hey Joe etc. Concerning Vai etc. I must admit that I really hate shred. Especially the tone. Satriani and all these others (except Guthrie) really sound like Amiga computer game sounds. Incredibly sterile and mechanical. And although they are impressive generally I see them as athletes. People who push the envelope but to a point where it becomes more of a sport than music. Impressive yes, but incredibly boring. The only one I can at least listen to us Guthrie Govan because his tone isn't sterile and his phrasing had a lot of jazz etc. in it. Oh yeah definitely love the finger pickers and classical guitarists too. I am classically trained so that's why I really like it. There is nothing better if you want to learn good fretting hand technique and general discipline. It also benefits you when your want to learn Travis picking etc. It was really easy to learn did to my classical background but I never wanted to stay there because although I really like classical music is very limiting in comparison to jazz. There is nothing more valuable for a musician in my opinion than to be able to come up with good melodies and chord patterns on the spot. It's the highest degree of musicisnship one can achieve. Oddly enough during the times of Mozart improv was highly encouraged and there were real improv battles between him and as far as I remember Clementi. Over the centuries this attitude got lost however and classical music despite some still including improv here and there is mostly void of that. Which is a shame. It had become so restrictive that I realized even though I love classical music I don't want to be stuck just reinterpreting music from dead people. All you do is play other people's music for the most part. That was when I discovered Gypsy Jazz and oh boy did it give me motivation. It's incredibly fast and melodic and in still learning. I discovered a new start on the Gypsy Jazz horizon his name is Joscho Stephan a German jazz guitarist. Check him out. His version of Hey Joe is just amazing. I don't care that you wrote a lot. Could have been even more. I like to talk about music. I'm currently bedridden for the most part since I had a Myocarditis and COVID 19 and am still recovering. Hope I'll soon be able to return to playing with my band. It's a Salsa and Bachata band. I like to listen to Latino music but didn't imagine to play it. However I'm learning so much right now. It's really worth to leave one's own confirm zone and try new things even though one might not really be into this kind of music. You'll always learn something new. Go have a listen to Joscho Stephan. Tell me what you think. Have a nice day man and give us some more of your sweet playing.
l bought a Butterscotch blonde 52 classic vibe about nine years ago.. Mine has brass saddles, rather than the chrome. i exchanged the pickups to Seymour Duncan.
Is the newer Classic Vibe '50s Tele worth trading up to from one I bought 9 years ago?
Not necessarily. You should compare both models as China vs. Indonesia versions use different pickups. Some say China models use Tone Rider pickups (though not officially is admitted)
Indonesian guitars are on pair with good fit and finish, those people over there in the Cort-Tek and P.T Samick factory are well trained at what they do and some of my best players came from Indonesia unlike the Chinese junk that I avoid like the plague!
I have 2 CV teles made in china that aren't junk.
Better than the ones now made in Indonesia.
Also a fender modern player tele made in china that isn't junk.
Mine is 8.5 lbs too. It’s my go-to though.
Next guitar will probably be this tele or the CV Strat. Undecided... both look and sound great 👍
How do you feel about this vs an American Pro II; is the American worth the extra cash?
It looks and sounds great! It's up to $429 from $419 as of this post.
Boy they've really jacked up the price of these since their first release. IIRC I paid something like $250 for mine.
@inboxmeontele_gramplayandtrade I'm sorry what?
It’s all the inflation Trump caused. It will take a long time to come back down.
I just put a Minty Green Teley on Lay-A-Awy this morning.
The tele's are one of my favourite guitars specially for its punchy sound. If I were a richman I would buy one of each of my beloved guitars.❤
These were a lot better when they made them in China. Ever since they have switched to Indonesia they haven’t been as good. I had a Simon Neil classic vibe Strat I wish I hadn’t sold
They still build them in china...I bought two in 2021 a week apart...
1st 0ne was a butterscotch blond
From Indonesia, the second one was white from china and both literally perfect...
@@ronpriest7135 I just haven’t been impressed with the wood grain on the blonde and butterscotch finished ones coming out of indo. Some look like cutting boards. The early China ones were using some really nice grainy pine that looked like ash.
How about the volume ? Does it get muddy when you turn it down?. Are the mini pots oringal spec?
Give me 5 classic vibes over 1 American fender ANY DAY
My Classic Vibe needed some fret work and the nut adjusted. Other than that, it's pretty nice..
I heard that the CV (single-coil) pups are Alnico IIIs, which makes them kinda unique in the current Squier / Fender model range.
i believe some of the paranormal series are as well
The blonde ones are fitted with Alnico III's whilst the butterscotch models are fitted with Alnico V's. The earlier Chinese made butterscotch models were fitted with 'Tonerider' Alnico V's as stock.
My CV 50's tele is really amazing. It was set up much better than my MIM Fender.
Really nice soloing. What would you say were your influences?
Of course it's worth the money!🤔
l bought a Butterscotch blonde 52 classic vibe about nine years ago.. Mine has brass saddles, rather than the chrome. i exchanged the pickups to Seymour Duncan. Thats the only mode l made...One point though, the chrome isn't very good ,it soon degrades and goes dull. overall though this is a very good Guitar Well worth the money... l believe it cost about €260 at the time...
does the chrome bridge affect the functionality in any way? Asking cuz I don't care for the looks.
These have alnico pickups which are a lot better than the ceramic ones the other Squiers come with.
Nice playing dude . I think I'll get one .
I know they’re trying to keep with classic design and feel. But are the pickups wax potted? I hate microphonic pickups.
Great video dude! Thanks!!!
Actually have a Thinline and a Jim Root the next will be whichever one feels right for me
great playing dude
Consider the budget, I will buy an used Squire CV. It’s a good guitar for small gig or performance at bars.
got one, 2015 model heavy great neck n frets wanna dump the ashtray 3 way bridge and can't find a 6 flat saddle no lip base plate..help anybody.....!!
see if the new affinity telecaster bridge will fit on there. it is what you're looking for.
I would love to see u do a squier Tele vs a fender player Tele
Well, now I'll be playing spanky funk grooves for the next couple of hours. Thanks a lot 🤣🤘
