This film is criminally underated! I can't believe how many western fans havent even seen it. Kate Blanchet and Tommy Lee Jones were pefectly cast, as was everyone. Being a New Mexico Native and grown up around the place this was filmed makes it even more special for me. Thanks so much for reacting to this, it really make my week!!
I believe you are the first one who reacted to this highly underrated movie on RUclips. Thank you! And great reaction, by the way.
Have you watched *_Broken Trail_* yet? Robert Duvall, Thomas Haden Church, and a terrific supporting cast. Great story, beautiful scenery and cinematography, and unusual historical insight. Treat yourself (and us!)
I agree, a must see.
I always like seeing Val Kilmer in a western setting. I particularly enjoyed 'Thunderheart'.
I completely agree with you. I'm not sure if it's true, but I heard a rumor that he's actually part indian in real life, like in the movie. I've been hoping that its true.
Anyway Kilmer has such charisma and presence, which was also evident as Doc Holliday in Tombstone. My personal favourite is him as Madmartigan in Willow, which is also my favourite movie. I've gotten three episodes into the new Willow series, but so far I'm not enamoured with it. It's difficult to reach the heights of childhood favourites.
Other great roles by Kilmer is as Jim Morrison in the Doors, and as Chris Shiherlis in Heat.
@@Abbadonhades Yes, his performance in 'Tombstone' is class. I also liked his character in 'Felon' with Stephen Dorff. I haven't seen any of 'Willow' yet, but I'll give it a go at some point.
I remembered Eric Schweig from The last of the Mohicans. As Uncas his good looks, heroism and tragic destiny, made for a moving journey. So to see him here in the role as Chidin, I actually couldn't believe the transformation. He now inhabited a character that was the polar opposite of Uncas, where once again the outside mirrored the inside. In this case a twisted and damaged face, with some nasty adornments, all reflecting a cunning and evil personality.
He was great in Flags of Our Fathers too
I love this movie! Saw it while living just outside Chicago. Being an Apache, it made me not miss home (Arizona) so much. My mom, my brother and I moved back home to the San Carlos reservation in May of 2008. Have a great weekend Madison, looking forward to your book.
A great, underrated western is Will Penny. It stars Charlton Heston about a lonesome cowboy getting on in years, who finds love, amidst great adventure. One of the most bittersweet endings in a western. It has everything: strong characters, romance , adventure, great scenery and cinematography and excellent villains. Charlton Heston's favorite film role.
Had this movie on my list for months. Finally watched it today so I could watch your reaction. Glad I did. I really enjoyed both.
Glad to see someone finally reviewing this little gem of a western, one of my favorites. Another one you will like is Lonesome Dove based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Larry McMurtry. It's a four part epic which would require a few videos to review properly but imo the greatest western ever made and has an amazing cast that includes Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover, Angelica Houston, Chris Cooper and Diane Lane amongst others, well worth a watch even if you don't review it, it's Lord of the Rings trilogy great just a different genre.
Yes, but it go's far beyond one film. It is a saga.👍
I think this is Clint Howard’s best character playing the Sheriff.
Tommy Lee Jones was on such a roll right about this time!
My favorite western series is called Lonesome Dove there's 5 movies. In the first Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall play two retired Texas rangers. The rest of the prequels show them growing up
Another good book to read is "Life Among the Apaches" by John Cremony.
I seen this movie when it came out. Really impacting from the start. Just seen it again tonight and wanted to see a reaction. Yours was the first and how lucky I was able to find yours! Thank you for sharing!
This movie couldn't be more perfect.
I’m a huge western fan. I love everything from The Rifleman to Tombstone. I love all the classics, John Wayne, Tom Selleck, jimmy Stewart, Clint Eastwood, etc.
I think this movie is my favorite of them all.
You have got to watch “Tom Horn” with Steve McQueen - if you haven’t already. Based on a true Story. Gut wrenching, but reveals true anguish of the Old West, wrestling with morality of good vs bad.
I was in my early 20's tripping shrooms with an old hippie that knew the New Mexico desert like the back of his hand. He drove the VW bus off the main road & miles back into the middle of nowhere & we stumbled upon the set for one of these scenes? I only knew later it was this movie because it was a Ron Howard production we got ran off from!😅 Still haven't seen it, but anything Howard or Jones has to be decent! As someone who evidently likes Westerns (Congrats on the book btw!!! 👏 👏 👏) this should be right up your alley? Just sharing a silly story, folks, that's what comments are for, ...& to help the channel, of course!
See ya!
✌🌎❤
Into The West, is a 2005 miniseries that tells multiple stories as cultures clash when the West was either being invaded or settled.
Well worth watching.
Cate does a perfect western & southern American accent. Her dad was a Texan so i guess she grew up hearing a Texas twang haha. Some parts in this she reminds me of my grandma who was a SETX country woman. I love her in 'the gift' too.
Love that you are reacting to westerns, maybe my favorite genre. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend Shane, The Searchers, Stagecoach (1939), Ride the High Country, Little Big Man, Unforgiven and John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy -- Rio Grande, Fort Apache and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.
Tombstone with Val Kilmer.
always reminds me of a cross between the searchers and lonesome dove
I love this movie always amazed at how many people have never seen it
last of the mohicans is really good...the outlaw josie wales is a great film...
Fantastic job on this one Madison. You get it. Cheers.
I luv this movie! You are correct that NM is a beautiful place especially for old style western films! This is my home state! 😁 Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett were awesome in this movie! Nice cameo by Val kilmer who also lives here in NM. I'm glad you reacted to this film and I'm happy I watched your great reaction! Another movie filmed in NM is "Sacario" with some great actors like Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolen and Emily Blunt. If you havent seen it maybe give it a try. Thanks for sharing Madison ❤️💛
This is a good movie. I actually live very rural and quite near Chloride.
👍👍👍👍👍5 thumbs up Madison!! Great reaction, good movie for sure, I am not a huge fan of Cate Blanchett, but anything with Tommy Lee Jones, I am gonna watch, I am glad to see you enjoying this films, oohhh, good eye spotting Val Kilmer, and Aaron Eckhart, can't wait to see more, take care!!
Best rifle is a Sharp's Carbine according to Unforgiven and Coen Bros. True Grit, or a Hawken, according to Jeremiah Johnson.
DH , the rifle portrayed in Unforgiven was a Spencer carbine , a repeating rifle used by the U.S. military during and immediately after the civil war.
most good westerns are based, or loosely based on good books or novels and the best of those make for good western movies.
I loved Cate Blanchett in The Gift (2000.)
The book was very good. I didn't see the movie yet. Thanks for reacting to this.
I liked open range but im like you this one is better. and if you havent watched dances with wolves its a fantastic movie to watch to see
If you're ever in the mood for a great horror western then I highly suggest Bone Tomahawk(2015). I won't even say who is in it, just that you'll know at least one of the big-star actors in it. It's quite unique, I don't think I even know of any other horror western movie, unless you count The Missing. "Unique" shouldn't imply "bad" though, I think it's an amazing horror movie in a realistic western setting and very well-acted.
A fun western for you to check out is The Good The Bad The Weird, from Korea.
Thanks for this!
I know it's a soap but North and South mini tv series staring Patrick Swayze.👍🇬🇧
A very underrated movie. For me it belongs to the Top 5 Westerns, because of the story, well played by every actor, very good directing, great photography and very fitting soundtrack.
DAMN FINE FLICK THAT NOT MANY MENTION THESE DAYS. BRAVO DARLIN.
( MAYBE ONE DAY YOUR NOVEL WILL BE ON THE SCREEN )
now this is a surprise
A Man Called Horse
Read " Yellowstone kelly" by Peter Bowen.
If you liked this movie I'd suggest Hostiles with Wes Studi...
I am a metaphysics specialist (astrology/psychic healing), so I love a motion picture that features a spiritual theme along with mundane reality! This film fits these criteria almost perfectly. Thank you for posting this reaction!
Not, a “Winchester Rifle.” Sorry. It’s supposed to be a “Henry Rifle.” But, modern replicas are produced by many manufacturers, surprisingly Rossi or other outlets for Movies. The Henry is immediately recognized by the gold receiver. The Henry came before, the Winchester, then the Winchester was more of an improvement, some say. Thanks.
Hell yeah
Love you, Madison Thames. So glad there are still some beautiful romantics left in this ugly, cold cynical word. I really hope you watch Tom Horn, starring Steve McQueen.
Good movie 🍿
Awesome reaction, can you please watch a movie called THE FOUNDER.
"Due to popular demand..." Yeah that's because we are all smitten with you. We are all in deep smit
Open Range was good with a great cast but doesn't compare to The Missing.
Have you seen A Man Called Horse?
If you haven't watched The Sacketts, you need to.
Little Big Man
Have you seen missing from 2023
Barbarosa
I don't know if it's just me, but I've never seen too many Native Americans with facial hair. Do they have some sort of staple against it in their culture?
Hated this movie.
Reason one the child is just a burden the whole movie. The mother is an asshole to the dad for most the movie even tho buddy is the only one out here tryna help her ungratefulness. The captured daughter tries to save the mother n her dead baby like why ? First you don't know what's out there if you ascape and so you need at least someone who isn't gonna carry any extra baggage. Also there are other woman who are captured why not free all of them too ? 1 1/2 out of 5
The 1/2 star was because I thought that the acting was least half decent.
