  • I've been mulling it over it for a while, and I honestly think the core feature of the Gunslinger might be the solution to the monk problem.

Taking notes, this is a really fun mechanic for enforcing that many hits playstyle!

I like it! I think it`s only about half of what we need to fix monk, but it`s an excellent start.
Regenerating Ki on crits would go a long way to fixing some of monk`s weaknesses. Using existing mechanics to do so is just brilliant... Monks actually being GOOD at melee? Awesome!
Thinking about it, this needs to be either a first or second level feature. Maybe roll Deadeye into Martial arts, and Unerring Flow into the second level feature KI.
Damage on unarmed strikes is still a bit low. It could probably be fixed by a combination of increasing the martial arts die by starting it out at a D6 instead of a D4 and going up to a D12 instead of D10, and with Brutal Critical`s extra damage die. I hate stunning strike and would be more than happy to replace it with Brutal Critical, so great call there!
Ki points are still too low. You can fix this in two ways. Either just add 2 Ki points per level, or add the monks proficiency bonus to the number of Ki points for better scaling. Now that the terrible stunning strike has been removed, more Ki points means players can do more monk things.
Not quite sure what to do about monks being super squishy front liners though. I was contemplating something like a Ki fueled version of the Blade Ward cantrip... For that to work though, we would have to change the last line in the Martial Arts feature to something like "You can make an unarmed strike as a bonus action". That way you could use your action on other things like Quickened Healing or Stillness of Mind, or whatever the Ki version of Blade Ward is, and still be able to make an unarmed attack as a bonus action.
