Armenia was the worst crap I ever heard so if that is outside the box count me out. This kind of music have always been common in Eurovision.
And to say Croatia is outside the box is so fun. Do you people listen to music outside this contest. Croatia is one of the most generic sound in eruovisionrock. Sure it does a crowd pleaser in a good way, but to call it original. What is original. Meow cat meow?
Ireland got points for staging (one of the factors the juries are instructed to judge on), and I got to admit they made a song that I thought was terrible at first sound good. I got what they wanted to have from it. It was a masterclass in staging and it was original as a song also.
Nemo is rather original and the staging in its simplicity was amazing. He got the whole package with great vocals and stage presense, it was a rather clear winner too me.
I do not know if Ukraine was original, and they usually get good jury scores. But it was great vocals and great staging.

In my opinion, UK's staging was refreshing, but it was the worst song and vocals of the night so although 0 is harsh, I get it. Yes, Norway's song doesn't fit in ESC, it's too niche for a broad audience but I liked it. Ireland is not my cup of tea, but a good result was expected. I'm surprised about Israel's televote score. I could have imagined a number in the lower 100s, maybe 130 or 140, but not over 300 points for a country which is currently involved in a war - as the aggressor. That's almost twice the amount of televote points that Noa scored last year. Why? Of course, there was occupation before that, etc, and Russia once won the televote and came 2nd after annexing Crimea, but still. But I'm not surprised by Olly Alexander scoring 0 points, his performance was clearly the worst of the night. Also not surprised by Norway finishing last and being a borderline qualifier, who only finished 3 points ahead of Czechia, and 5 points ahead of Denmark, respectively. Both of which would have had a better chance of not finishing last, especially Denmark due to its jury appeal. Just like Denmark 2019, Albania 2021 and Albania 2018, who didn't have any embarrassing public vote results and overall finished higher than the 10th televote places in their respective semi-finals would have. Sometimes, it's better for you to be a close NQ in the semis with a decent amount of points than to have an embarrassing televote result in the final. And I saw Norway's televote flop coming when I saw their low viewing numbers of their semi-final performance, I guess, even some NQs had more views. Plus, they apparently had low viewing figures on TikTok as well. I believe, their rehearsal clip was the least watched out of all the sf2 countries. Of course, it doesn't mean it's a bad song, plus, it also could mean that they finished 11th, 12th, or 13th places in a lot of countries. And it was 11th in a country which is already listed on Wikipedia, I believe Estonia.

I think the problem is that if you're going to lean in to your sexuality, do it in a manner where you celebrate it in a tasteful way. Much like Gustaph of Belgium did last year. Olly just went for vulgar, which isn't something I'm against, but know your audience before going down that route. If its a family orientated show, or you rely on the votes of a large part of Europe (the East) then you're alienating yourself and you can't blame anyone but yourself for not connecting with their audiences. Its a recurring thing that dates back years. Ronela flopped for a similar reason. Even back in 1997, Paul Oscar of Iceland flopped because his stage show was deemed to 'sexual' for a then stuffy, non-provocative show (even though now a days his show would be pretty standard fayre).
As far as staging goes, the UK had an incredible concept. One that really looked spectacular on TV.

I think with Joost in the final Israel would be tele winner. Lasagna gathered much more tele votes from joost than nemo. I think with Joost, Nemo victory would be by at least 70 points, but maybe Tom will make bigger analysis. I would not cross our votes for Ukraine and Isreal. Geopolitcs were always part of tele vote, this is just part of the game but surprisingly people tend to reject this reality. At the end of the day the last two contenders were tele and jury favorites. You cant expect always to have tele favorite to win when there is 50:50 votes distribution. It would be a statistic anomaly. Sometimes Jury favorite win (Nemo, Loreen) and the other time tele (Maneskin, Kalush Orkestra)

Tom it is worth to analyse odds bubble, when Nemo has 15 percent chance of winning vs 52 percent for Croatia. Was Croatia winning a televote self fulfilled phophecy due to strong belief that odds are mostly right ? We have another anomaly of odds saying that Latvia will be dead last in their semi meanwhile they cruised to the final in 7 th place. Perhaps Latvians did not care to bet their money on Dons since there was no hype around. A lot of interesting topics to analyse!

The bookies knew the actual results of the semis- Switzerland finish 4th. They couldn't believe that Switzerland will get so many jury points - more then last year Sweden. Any "normal" jury result - one in which Switzerland gets 250-300 jury points gives Croatia the win.

    • @MCohSnap
      @MCohSnap Месяц назад +1

@@shlomomarkman6374 bookies cant know that, this is misinformation. Bookies decrease the odds if people are betting money. That's how odds works. More money = smaller coefficient. Italian broadcaster leaked voting percentage for Israel and only then people started to bet on Israel which pumped chances to win Eurovision. Also, Switzerland tied televote 4=5 place in the grand final so conclusion is that semifinal result is based on random draw. 4th place in semi sounds terrific but this is only a few points behind top position and semifinal draw can be the reason because voting countries are not the ones which support guy with a dress or Switzerland in general (eastern Europe, Caucasian countries ). None of the bookies would make a conclusion on this, baby lasagna was pure buble in the odds (because odds decrease when money flows)

    • @MCohSnap

@@shlomomarkman6374Only thing bookies knew is 40 % of votes for Italy public to Israel. And odds reacted instantly. Btw odds does not work this way you mention. Was waiting for your reaction, I needed something from my favorite ESC analyst to cheer me up because I'm still crying in my corner because of Norway ending last... What a year for me personally, my country not qualifying, Netherlands disqualified, absurd televote for Israel, and my all time favorite song ending dead last... I can't hide my disappointment in the juries especially for what they did to Norway. At least they appreciated Portugal and kept Israel from winning.
I'm especially happy for Bambie, 6th in televote, 6th in jury, 6th overall... it had to be that way, I don't believe in magic but this 666 is scary ! The winner leaves me cold, but I'm happy for Nemo nonetheless.

As a Norwegian I am extremely UNproud of our jury who gave Israel 8 points.
One good thing though. I have rediscovered Gåte. Not really, just dived deeply into their amazing catalogue.

I wonder who said from the start Norway would not get a good result with this song, due to the very divisive vocals? Oh right, I did... Not surprised, and I'm not disappointed with them at all. I think that we just need song selection changes and figure out what we're doing wrong with the juries. All in all, I consider the qualification streak being intact a win.
The most important thing last night was that the contest can survive this short term, and you can tell here that once another country took the lead, that people felt that. "Amazing, we can avoid a domino of withdrawals with the right changes after this year."
Great that the juries are rewarding the more daring songs more. As they should!! Amazing result for both Croatia and Ireland. Of course, the biggest congrats to wonderful Nemo!

      I assume you're Norwegian.
Thank you for sending Gate to Eurovision !!!! It has been *IMO* the best song this year. I think they didn't quite get the stage right (it was definitely not an improvement of the MGP) and this might be the reason why such a harsh result BUT AGAIN, thank you so much for sending this and not keiino.
Yeah, maybe keiino would have been close to M&M this year (since it's kinda similar vibe) but I would take a 25th place with gate every single day of the year over a 9th place with "diggy diggy dam).
So , once again , THANK YOU NORWAY !!!!

Another year of pretty lopsided results, but it's to be expected when like six countries got 1500 points combined. Thank God for the results that we got, the EBU got bailed out big time... But as Nemo said in the winners press conference, Eurovision is broken and it needs to be fixed.

I´m heartbroken. 😢😭With Croatia's non-win, it is now crystal clear (but it was already clear with Cyprus´s Fuego for instance, and Malata´s and Iceland´s second places), that small and unimportant countries cannot win. Second place is high, yes, but that´s the highest you can go. Don´t even mention Estonia or Latvia, that was 25 years ago, under different rules, it was only competing states voting, so it was much easier back then. Under this system, small countries absolutely have no chance. I´m shocked Raiven got just a few pity points from jury. If she sang for Sweden or Ukraine, points would be raining left and right. Raiven was heartbroken in an interview after the show, she said she is shocked that she didn´t get anything from juries. The entire song and performance (opera at the end) was basically jury bait, and well, they paid us dust. They liked the opera from Switzerland and France and so on, but the most difficult and challenging vocal notes from Slovenia were not even worth mentioning? Then what were they voting on? Couldn’t be artistry or music, because then Portugal, Norway or Serbia would all have been higher. Norway last place? Really? Really?? Ughh. Malta was last in the semis with a song that would be Top 10 if Sweden had sent it, it´s unbelievable. If Croatia, who is a quite universally loved country in Europe, can´t even win, well then who can? Surely not the small ones (SLO, MAL, CYP, ICE etc.) As a Slovene, I think it´s time to stop. Our RTV has no money anyway, and we talk about not competing anymore for the last years. I think it´s time. I really don´t see any point in it anymore. From the reactions from RTV, I think it´s really our last year. Well, good riddance.😥

Hmmm Portugal won the jury vote by a mile in 2017 and they are undeniably the least important country in Western Europe. I do agree with you that it is more difficult, but you shouldn’t give up hope. The right song with simple staging can always convince the jury.
