I just recently bought the Drifta bush cruiser with the wildlands self inflating mattress it sucks down in a minute to about 25mm thick i can fit a 4cm gel foam topper flannel bed sheet a soft gel foam pillow and a -5 sleeping bag. the gel foam is super comfy and squashes right down, Ive also got a portable diesel heater installed in a pelican case mounted on my rhino rack to dry out the tent if condensation gets bad. The RTT is so much better for touring when your packing up every day the swag and stretcher gets monotonous specially on cold mornings,
Yeah love the swag and would struggle to get the dog up in a roof top! Just starting a channel and then to realise I won your comp last month will really help us get out there thanks so much mate! Keep the vids coming!!
Yeah pretty much exactly what I thought about them. Another thing is that they're a long way off the ground so being a bit careless when climbing out or after a few drinks could be problematic. My choice of setup would be a rooftop tent on an off road Poly trailer but it works out pretty expensive for a few camping trips a year. I ditched my 270 deg. awning as I just wasn't using it and it was a fair bit of weight up on top. I will keep using my tent and will likely either get a smaller 180 deg. awning or even a free standing one as we tend to go to one spot and stay there rather than going to multiple places. Thanks for the video.
Yep trailer is a mint setup park it up and still go off-roading plus you don’t have to worry so much about weight with accessories etc. I ditched the 270 to mate for a traditional awning haven’t looked back
@@4x4CampingandAdventures Yeah those were my thoughts as well tbh. With some of the rigs and money we see spent on social media these days it would be nearly as cost effective to buy a holiday house or stay in cabins really. Just getting ready for our next trip away which I'm really looking forward to.
@@4x4CampingandAdventures Yeah very true. Seems a bit a bit weird to go camping and take your house with you tbh. Seems that so many seem to go to all the same places to get away from it all as well.
I dont get why people get them here in the uk because you have to stay in a campsite with one where you could just use a normal tent or you can stay on the side of the road or in a car park where you won't be able to set up a tent of any kind, i have my bed in the back because you dont need so much storage over here because your never more than an hour away from a shop
Roof top tents are the most stupid idea ever unless you use it very regularly. The rfuelka and weight costs are huge. Sean/tent heaps better for an extra 10 mins setup.
if you get the right roof top tent there is nothing wrong with them can get full alloy clam shall tents that are only 50kg can set up camp anywhere even if there is 2 inches of water on the ground the little diesel heaters are grate for getting rid of condensation we do get a bit more rain in nz and a lot of camping i do is on Stoney river beds swags take up to much room for me and and would hate to do multiple nights in a damp swag . I don't see the point in a soft shell roof tent is like putting up a ground tent on your roof each time. I got the slim line alucab lt-50 can fit a sheet a sleeping bag and an inflatable pillow and takes about 25sec to set up i looked at roof tents that were $800 to $1000 cheaper but the material never looked like it would last roof top tents are one of those items where you buy once you cry once .
If you want to save a free camp spot and use the car to explore im afraid a roof top tent is terrible for saving a camp spot lol that's why i love a swag on a stretcher. You can setup and leave it until you come back from exploring.
The extra fuel consumption for me was a killer. 3 litres per hundred MORE on the Patrol, and I didn't even find the tent that convenient
Yeah mate 100% I notice a massive difference when it comes off for day to day driving and on the highway
Cheers for the perspective. I have toyed with the ROOFTOP option. Still love the stretcher/swag combo for a great night's sleep. 😴
It’s hard to beat a good swag setup mate

The trailer is the go. Don't have to drive around with it everywhere.

I camp every weekend, packed up Sunday rainy day I set the tent up at Work while I’m working it’s drying
Smart idea!

Definitely not for a couple of times a year that’s for sure
Just whack the RTT on a cheap trailer
Problem solved
Definitely a good option mate
That was the sole reason I got a trailer. If you’re camping in one spot for multiple nights it’s the answer!
Agree 100%.
Thanks for watching mate
All im hearing is bray needs a bigger shed 🤔 ahahahahahahahahaha
Haha need a bigger block and house
What a joke this is
