Console Complete Edition Specific Comments. The game is great on consoles with some FPS stuttering in some areas but overall excellent and hud that works mostly and font thats viewable on even smallish screens. Loading times can be a bit long in some places. The controls which while on the controller work fairly well can be cumbersome at first. Amazing to see this title on consoles even if its at 30fps
Gotta be honest, this game is kind of entirely different from what this review is based on. They added and patched quite a few things since. Also, the White March expansions give the middle part of the game much better pacing. Not sure if it's worth doing a new video review(if you even do those), but it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts regardless.
For some reason, your console update comment was not pinned for me. I had to scroll through the comments section to find it. It's awesome that you came back and commented on the console release, thanks!
Played this game to platinum on PS4 and can say it have some issues. 1. Load times get obnoxiously long later in the game. 2. The command wheel(s) of all your skills get pretty cumbersome to work through later in the game when many of you party members (esp the various spell casters) have loads of options and for harder difficulties its absolutely essential you micro-managing everything and this makes for some seriously slow going through tougher fights. 3. I had some glitch/bug later in the game where the game stopped showing all new saves made during a session (including auto saves). The save was made though but I had to restart the game and load the save from the main menu to access them. This bug never resolved and followed me through the rest of game making playing it on any harder difficulty just a complete pain in the ass as almost every death in a new area forced a restart of the game. 4. A death or just a reload of an area sometimes did not reset quest progress done properly. The game would load as if the quests objectives done before the death or reload had been completed even if that was not the case according to your log and thus effectively barring all further progress of those quests. Restarting the game or even the console did not solve this, only loading a previous save from before entering the area where the glitch occurred would reset the area properly. (I don't understand how a bug like this can even occur unless the ps4 cash memory somehow don't empty itself on rebooting the system.) 5. Random crashes on entering new areas. Not too frequent but they happen. After finishing most of the base game and its MSQ and getting a bit into the White Marsh expansion I kinda gave up trying to battle all these issues and just put the game to "story mode" and walked out of it. (Thankfully, given the circumstances, the ps4 trophy list have nothing relating to difficulty setting). I would still recommend the game just for the story and the rpg aspects of it but if you really want to challenge the various harder settings of the game I very much DON'T recommend the console version.
This game... This game... is sooo freaking good. I'm currently playing it and it brings me back to good old days of Baldur's Gate. Kickstarter is not only a platform for game production, it actually exceeds the current industry model. Phenomenal game and done with 10x less budget than a typical EA game.
I love your reviews. So much i even started watching old ones like this one. Your reviews are journalistically sound. Relevant infomation and always to the point. But they provide entertainment value as well. Even this one that came before you adopting your "signature" style. Kudos.
Came to check out the game and stayed for the review. This is one of the best youtube reviews I've ever seen. Excellent structure of the review itself. Excellent speak. Was impressed by your background knowledge and references for comparison. Why didn't I discover your channel before? Keep up the fantastic work and the views will definitely follow!
I second that, this is one of the best reviewers I have had the pleasure of hearing review a game on RUclips. If I could give you five thumbs up for this review, I would! But, I am probably going to take a pass on this game...
It's 2015 and for games like this to still be made, is a complete vindication of Kickstarters existence. I get a knot in my stomach though at starting a game like this. It's like making a long term commitment to actually using your brain whilst playing, that has been drummed out of me as games have dumbed down. I loved Divinity and Wasteland 2, but didn't finish either of them.
***** I'm so happy for what Kickstarter has brought into the gaming industry as well as enabling ideas that laid long dormant due to lack of funds. It's really amazing. With all that said. God could we please get a serious group of developers to take on redoing Jagged Alliance??? 1 or 2? Or make a part 3? I don't mean the crap efforts previously handled by complete asshats thus far. It's one of the only game types that never been fully recreated where everything in the game is interconnected and contains every detail that it should.
I love the formality and constructed ness of your delivery, especially so when it's suddenly interceded by some hilarious expletives that're delivered just as smoothly as the rest. You *need* more subs, friend.
I played the Switch version for about an hour last night and it is a great port - plays and controls very well (I have only played the PC version before, not a console guy). I am only playing in handheld mode, but it feels great so far. Text is small as is too often the case - not as bad as DOOM/Wolfenstein but still occasionally needed to use my phone to magnify. Same great game - and can't wait to get back to it!
Dude, i hope you are still doing vids like this. I absolutely love the way you talk. Your figurative speech is so on point. I couldn't stop smiling at my screen while watching and learning. Thanks for the video :D
You had me at around 10 minutes in the video. I've bought the game and didn't see the time goes by as I'm writting these words it's 4 am and I just came back to watch the end of your review. Really good so far and I'm at the first town and I've been reading through the story since 4 this afternoon.
+Mat G it was a waste of time watching this for over 10 minutes - it was just 10 minutes of praising how great this would be (still it looks like baldurs gate and that was 15+ years ago - i'd have preferred to hear why this game is interesting and not that 'everything' is great about it)
necrowizzard So you say after 6 month that the game is out. There are plenty of other review out there to make your own opinion. And that's not just for this game, if you don't like the review maybe a more overall approach like Gamespot did or IGN may suite you. I'm not one of them. They are so mainstream that you can't take them seriously. On the other hand, someone less popular but surely more colorful is more entertaining to watch and more "believable". But who cares since it's your opinion anyway you just waste 5 minutes of your time by replying to this old comment.
Lol, You and Superbunnyhop posted the same review at the exact same time.. Nice! Edit: Ye you convinced me, totally forgot about the game after i saw their kickstarter. Now Im suddenly hyped like it's 1999 and I'm waiting for BG2. Thanks for the review!
You should totally be a writer. Your reviews are always informative, yes, but most of all hilarious thanks to your ingenious use of metaphors. I'd read the shit out of a book if you ever wrote one.
this review touched all but one box (technical - as in hardware compatibility, fps etc), im thoroughly impressed by how well this video review went. like seriously impressed. definitely gonna be coming back for more everytime a title pops up :D carry on the awesome work man
Just got this game for the Ps4 (yup full disclosure it slipped right past me) it has been amazing. I love the jrpg and the turn base, I love other more modern takes on rpg's, but this is as faithful as any I have played to the old school Baldur's Gate type old pc rpg's.
One thing i'd like to point is that the game has details directly taken from the infinity engine games, like the sound when changin armor, is exactly the same in BG, and I love that
I'm so glad this game is amazing. I had really high hopes at the beginning, but then my expectations considerably dropped when I heard Sawyer said he doesn't like BG2. Excellent review btw, as always.
Before I subscribed to this channel, I watched a review of a game I really wanted to love. At the end of the review I had mix emotions. Not because it was a bad review ( it was awesome ), but because he just took a game I wanted loved and shredded it to pieces! He pissed me off and yet I wanted to give him a hi five for a great review! My heart was thumping when I pushed on this review ( another great one ). Lol. I'm going to go buy it. Thank you!
Thanks for the review, I will certainly be playing this in the new year 2018. It's been a while since I've heard of an RPG being able to rival the likes of BG and Planescape Torment.
Just bought the game and it's been amazing so far. Playing and reading through the story is really relaxing, unlike many of the AAA games that just make me nervous with all that's flashing around on screen. Spent more than two hour creating my character and getting accustomed to the world and background lore. I found myself reading the written text aloud on more than one occasion and just savouring each and every aspect of the game. Being an oldschool D&D fan, this game is truly great. Also: Karak, great review as usual! I've caught myself taking the high level of your reviews for granted on more than one occasion, while I know I shouldn't, because I'm sure this 20' long review must have taken a huge amount of time to prepare. Really nice work there, man! Keep it up!
I fucking loved my one play through of this game and the two expansions! I need to play it a few more times because I feel like it is one of those games where the more you play the more you pick up and love!
Great review as always. I don't have time to play all the games that I'm interested in, but watching your reviews makes me know a good deal about them, which is satisfying.
After watching this review all my doubts about buying this game vanished ;) Huge fan of the D&D battle system ;) Now I am 100% sure that this game is a buy for me :D Thank you for making this excellent review :)
This. Game. Looks. AMAZING!! Fan service with a hand job, pat on the back, and a few kind words to keep morale up defines what this game is perfectly. Hell, this game is a full blown frenzy fuck of fan service!! Getting this ASAP.
AngryCentaurGaming will do man. Btw, just found your channel and subbed. I was converted to PC a couple years ago so I'm going back to what i missed, been playing BG, Planescape, icewind, and all the other games like that the past year or so. I wasn't able to grasp them when I was younger so I stuck to console JRPGs, have a lot to catch up on it seems.
AngryCentaurGaming I agree. Graphics aren't too much of an issue for me as long as the game is good, and they are really good... cept early 3d games, those are painful. Icewind is way fun cause it seemed a bit more action packed to me, plus getting to create my entire party helps with my god complex and let's me choose who gets to tag along on my murderous spree in the FR, no one lives... Least one playthrough no one did.
I helped kickstart this game and I was not disappointed by it at all. I've only put 80hrs into one playthrough but I definitely plan on going back before PoE 2 comes out (which I've also backed on Fig) Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I even kickstarted their card game! Haven't played it yet but I just wanted to own it, lol.
I enjoyed DA: Ineuisition very much. Of course it wasn't nearly as good as Mass Effect 1, KOTOR 1, or The Witcher 2... but it was still a solid RPG. I need to hurry up and finish Divinity Original Sin so I can get to this! PC has the best exclusives!
Commander Spock Yeah.. I've been hearing that. which is why I want to finish divinity before I get it... because I might not want to come back to divinity after.
capenati I agree. I was soooo disappointed with DAI. I cant even finish it, the first Bioware game ive ever said that with. It felt like even more of the RPG elements were taken away and your roles were more linear and chosen for you. There was no stats or adjusting intelligence, or strength. The skills were very limited, especially for the mage which had all its basic skills taken from a single tree in origins. No healing magic, so my support mage playstyle was all but taken away. Your character no matter what class you pick pretty much looks the same. The keep felt lifeless, your room was useless and pointless. No forts to take over, no timed events where choices matter. No real control over your "army". Etc etc etc. I mean i actually dont get what people see in it thats so good, besides the graphics and the good amount of places to visit. To me, everything that dictates a RPG, player choice and control, unique multiple playthrus, the feel of playing "your" character, just all seemed missing. Sad too, cause i wanted to love it. Hell I even defended it before I got around to playing it. I saw it as the next big thing, Biowares return to form of true rpg's. But nope, just no.
love baldurs gate 1 and 2 - thought that dragon age: origins was the worthly next gen game but this ... thi is it ... love it just love it - if u played bg icerwind game or toment u will love this get it now
Great review! I'm a massive fan of Obsidian and have been eagerly anticipating this game since it was announced! THIS is what Obsidian can do without Publisher interference! Throughout their career they've been hampered by publisher pressure. KOTOR II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol and even Fallout NV all had publisher reelated problems. So glad they were finally able to show everyone what they can do when they are left to their own devices and have the time to make the game they want.
Man I love your reviews. So much information, and you deliver it all in such an awesome way. Funny and informative! This review made me buy the game. Keep it up and good luck !!
Awesome review! I've been following your stuff for a while now. Your reviews are spot on and you're by far my favorite game reviewer, plus I love your 'walking the walk' commentary vids. Great stuff! I just pulled the trigger on buying this during the Steam Holiday sale. Side note, I completely lost my shit at your 'Crankmatic McThundershit' comment. LOL!
very good review. You are funny and talanted. Im surprised I haven't seen you around before, I found you through steam reviews. Anyway, I gave you another sub, because you clearly deserve way more. I like other reviewers like totalbiscuit and angryjoe, but you had a nice personal style to it as well. Good luck!
To me, the whole magic behind these crpgs is that intimate feel of the good fantasy book( while with Elder scrolls, it is the world)... to people with good imagination and patience for reading, this is crazy addictive. And on that part at least, PoE may even be the best one of it's genre ( kick starter and smaller budget were actually of advantage here, Obsidian finally decided to create a game tailored to their own strengths, instead of competing with AAA $ studios who deliver on cinematic experience). I played it for a while and while there are a lot a mechanics that needs more polishing, we're looking at a timeless classic here.
This was one of the most stylistically fun reviews I've ever heard. I love Pillars of Eternity (even more since the patches and DLC content came out that refined the mechanics) and this review actually made me want to go back to start a whole new character again, even though I'm actually in the middle of a replay to have a save game prepped for Deadfire's presumed release next year. Great, frenetic review. I am curious, have you considered gong back and doing a micro-re-review of the game now that all of its DLC and the bulk of its patching has been done, which I personally found radically changed the game's ease of play and replayability. (I dug through the channel's videos looking to see if you HAD done that already, but I didn't see anything, so I presumed not). Again, wonderful review and I wish you a... Good Journey.
Great review, as always, Karak! Once again, you have convinced me to take a stab at a game. I'm looking forward to my Steam download to finish. 5 minutes left! Keep up the great work!!
***** are you asking about my fallout comment? i like fallout 3 and new vegas, but i love the old style 1 and 2 better. i doubt bethesda will make the next one like that. so yes i would love a new post apocalyptic rpg like fallout 1 and 2.
This begs one question to be asked.......Why didn't they do this for Dungeon Siege III? I swore off obsidian after that disaster only to see them redeem themselves so completely with Pillars. How can a developer be so bad and yet be so good?
Does upping the difficulty actually make smarter AI (Use better spells, abilities) or does it just Make them stronger, have better stats, and or Handicapping you? I hate that kinda difficulty increase. I think Divinity OS 2 almost did it perfect but they also overpowered the strength/stats of enemies and still gimped you.
Wow! Great review. Playing the game right now on the ps4. Was wondering what was you're take on it. Totally agree with you. Amazing game. A piece of art. Truly.
Subbed. I like your review style, great video. I just got back in to PC gaming for the first time in about 10 years and since Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are 2 of my 4 favourite games ever (Monkey Island 1&2 are the others) I'm really looking forward to getting in to this and your review helped make my decison easier
I always like a good challenge but it seems like every single battle in this game involved multiple enemies and it was difficult to impossible to "pull" isolated enemies and fight them alone. You attack an enemy, you can't just fight that enemy. You have to fight the other 6 or 7 enemies in the general vicinity and oftentimes they are enemies you don't even know are there because they are out of sight. The devs obviously did this on purpose in order to make ALL fights a challenge, not just most of them. Sometimes I just wanna cruise a little bit, maybe do some casual grinding to get a level or two. Or maybe just to make a highly difficult fight a little more manageable by picking off 1 or 2 enemies positioned away from the pack.
I'm creating a new religion called Angry Centaurism. But seriously, great job with this review. I find that I often share your opinion on games, so I'll be checking this one out.
Great work man! I've been waiting on this game forever but I wanted to wait and see some feedback before I dove in. I'll be grabbing a couple copies for me and my brother. Thanks again. =D
Not one of your best reviews but still better than everyone else out there. What a great time for CRPG fans. So many great resurrected and NEW franchises coming out all the time.
This review is way way too perfect... Karak is obviously either God himself or the lord of hell Lucifer.... either way its nice to know that one of them is a badass gaming addict... and lets be honest who would argue with their opinion.
Karak is like the anti-yahtzee(zero punctuation) .. so very positive ... game is decent but visuals really do feel dated ... DoS shits all over this game on a technical level ...a great review as usual
I think that's a little harsh. D:OS is very much a modern interpretation of an isometric RPG, while Pillars is a faithful recreation of the Infinity engine games, flaws and all.
Darkly Tranquil Absolutely, but why go for such an outdated aesthetic? looks like high res IWD... and the team at Obsidian is wayyy bigger than over at Larian, no?
I've been interested in this game for a while now since I started playing more of Obsidian's library but I've never really played a cRPG. I do love role-playing in video games though and I am big fan of D&D so as newcomer would I enjoy this?
shout out to the guy who told me to watch this from the ign review. thumbs up dude
+MrPureMatty Yes indeed. Shout out to him!
+MrPureMatty Yep, IGN barely bothered to do a review, just slapped a score on. Whoever he is, he's a hero now

+Taegan Swarthout (NukeUni7) Appreciate that sir!
Great review as always. I don't have time to play all the games that I'm interested in, but watching your reviews makes me know a good deal about them, which is satisfying.
OneNefiya Thanks One!
Do hope the character interactions are really deep like in DA:Origins.
After watching this review all my doubts about buying this game vanished ;) Huge fan of the D&D battle system ;) Now I am 100% sure that this game is a buy for me :D Thank you for making this excellent review :)
Trongear THanks man. Subscribe and spread the word if you can!
Outward is also an awesome game that came out this year on console. Such a great rpg
This. Game. Looks. AMAZING!! Fan service with a hand job, pat on the back, and a few kind words to keep morale up defines what this game is perfectly. Hell, this game is a full blown frenzy fuck of fan service!! Getting this ASAP.
Jeffmetal 42 Post back after you have played a bit and tell me what you thought.
Jeffmetal 42 Ya those older ones still hold up especially with mods or remastered versions. My favorites were Icewind Dale trilogy not sure why.
What's missing from videos I've seen is the "end" tags of battle music that existed in Baldur's Gate. The music just..stops.
Nathan Allen Pinard Hmm interesting. I am going to go check that out.
I helped kickstart this game and I was not disappointed by it at all. I've only put 80hrs into one playthrough but I definitely plan on going back before PoE 2 comes out (which I've also backed on Fig)
Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I even kickstarted their card game! Haven't played it yet but I just wanted to own it, lol.
Started my first playthrough and this popped up, excellent!
After Dragon Age Inquisition I was so disappointed. Glad this game is out. A TRUE RPG.
DARTH VIRAL I'm enjoying this a lot, this game. Totally addicted to it the past few days and for me it is better than Divinity.
Commander Spock Yeah.. I've been hearing that. which is why I want to finish divinity before I get it... because I might not want to come back to divinity after.
DARTH VIRAL a RPG with mostly MMORPG elements...fucking "!" marks above characters....what the fuck DA:I
capenati I agree.
Keep up the awesome reviews. I really appreciate the depth you go into with your videos!
Kevin Todd Thanks
As always your reviews are amazing. Hilarious and deep, thanks and please keep it up.
love baldurs gate 1 and 2 - thought that dragon age: origins was the worthly next gen game but this ... thi is it ... love it just love it - if u played bg icerwind game or toment u will love this get it now
Sethasss Agreed
Daam, dude!! You are hilarious and great!!! SUBSCRIBED!
Literally was talking about replaying this game today. Great job RUclips algorithm.
D Palmerama Appreciate it D
Man I love your reviews. So much information, and you deliver it all in such an awesome way. Funny and informative! This review made me buy the game. Keep it up and good luck !!
atveit89 THanks
Just picked this game up loving it !!so far I’m about 4 hours in
Coming to ps4 at the end of the month. Thanks Karak! always trust yours reviews so this will be a definite buy for me.
lol! at 18:40 i saw what you did there ha! nice review man subbed!
Another fantastic home run review, Karak - like a juiced-up Jose Canseco!
Michael Jepsen All juiced up and places to be
Awesome review! LOL!
+Chris Gambrell Appreciate that Chris
Nice in-depth review this is why your subscribers numbers have blew up
Brian F Thanks man glad you like it and ya I agree
very good review. You are funny and talanted. Im surprised I haven't seen you around before, I found you through steam reviews. Anyway, I gave you another sub, because you clearly deserve way more.
I like other reviewers like totalbiscuit and angryjoe, but you had a nice personal style to it as well. Good luck!
swedishZ0mBi3 Thanks so much man. Spread the word if you can.
Loved this one
i got this game today based on your review and im loving it so far. i wish they would make a game that was similar to fallout 1 and 2.
Sesslyn Baaz This is awesome news man thanks
***** are you asking about my fallout comment? i like fallout 3 and new vegas, but i love the old style 1 and 2 better. i doubt bethesda will make the next one like that. so yes i would love a new post apocalyptic rpg like fallout 1 and 2.
***** i dont remember. i just hope someone will make one. i love fantasy rpgs but a new classic style rpg thats more sci-fi would be awesome.
Sesslyn Baaz Try wasteland 2
ConedStodingGames wasteland 2 is turn based. It's archaic. Real time with pause is the only way to go.
This just came out on PS4 so I needed a review from someone i trust!
2 minutes in and I'm hammering the sub button.
you're that hungry for a sammitch?
This is the best review and overview of gameplay I've seen.
Great style.
Wow! Great review. Playing the game right now on the ps4. Was wondering what was you're take on it. Totally agree with you. Amazing game. A piece of art. Truly.
outstanding review! so glad I'm subscribed! :)
Beresford Salmon Thanks man
Wow the quality of your recording has changed over the years, you sound so amazing now in comparison. Still great writing though.
+chunkz1187 Thanks so much Chunkz
Derik Rivera Thanks Derick and thanks so much for sharing the word!
AngryCentaurGaming No problem, I hope you find even more success going forward!
Will you be reviewing on switch?
Excellent review as usual Karak. I will have to take a look at this once I have finished the long list of games Steam "forced" me to buy...
Christman Genipperteinga Thanks man. Steam forced you to buy games as well? Asses.
Review on the Nintendo Switch please 👍🏾🙏🏾
I am disappointed in some of the models. They're all very 2005. Other than that, the game really is stunning. What lovely art.
Why does YT keep hanging during the ad (despite which ad happens to load), preventing me from watching this video?!?!
Tried Safari...Loaded fine...Ugh.
Shout out to that guy, he shall not be forgotten! excellent review man btw ;)
Great work man! I've been waiting on this game forever but I wanted to wait and see some feedback before I dove in. I'll be grabbing a couple copies for me and my brother. Thanks again. =D
Skippy Mcflappy YOu bet man
Not one of your best reviews but still better than everyone else out there. What a great time for CRPG fans. So many great resurrected and NEW franchises coming out all the time.
CitizenX3639 Well at least you made it through:)
One of the best games I've ever played. Great review my dude!
I have been wanting the pillars of eternity series it looks great 😊 i never played this style of gamd, but it looks great😊
Oblivion is the most nostalgic soundtrack for me love that game so much
Great style of narrative and presentation structure. You have earned my subscription. Keep it up.
zootan19 Appreciate it Zootan
This review is way way too perfect... Karak is obviously either God himself or the lord of hell Lucifer.... either way its nice to know that one of them is a badass gaming addict... and lets be honest who would argue with their opinion.
This review is amazing. Thank you for doing what you do. Sub'd and liked.
Rich Albert Thanks RIch
Dude your reviews are awesome. I like your style
Jacob Dubin Thanks Jacob
this week has been really "Strange" so many good games
***** Agreed its been an amazing time for games!
If i want to get into the cRPG genre, what game should I play to get me hooked?
Karak is like the anti-yahtzee(zero punctuation) .. so very positive ... game is decent but visuals really do feel dated ... DoS shits all over this game on a technical level ...a great review as usual
Geoffrey de Brouwer Ya DOS is fairly fantastic on a technical looking level.
I think that's a little harsh. D:OS is very much a modern interpretation of an isometric RPG, while Pillars is a faithful recreation of the Infinity engine games, flaws and all.
Darkly Tranquil Absolutely, but why go for such an outdated aesthetic? looks like high res IWD... and the team at Obsidian is wayyy bigger than over at Larian, no?
a really good in depth review , gratz
Cumpa Nacho Thanks Cumpa
Wow! This is such a great review both informative and entertaining. Helped me make the decision to purchase the game. Thank you for the great review.
Fantastic!! Can't believe I only now JUST found your channel. +1 sub.. Keep up the great work bud.
great - now you subscribed i have to unsubscribe just to even things out. thanks obama :(
It's in my steam wishlist now. I do like this type of games.
I've been interested in this game for a while now since I started playing more of Obsidian's library but I've never really played a cRPG. I do love role-playing in video games though and I am big fan of D&D so as newcomer would I enjoy this?
Sure is. It was my first game as Well. Just take some time to read something here and their.
Great review once again! Subbed. ;)
Mikko Berg Thanks Mikko
fantastic review!
