@@CoredumpedGaming I like having build options but Wotr has far too many haha. Game as a whole is good but I feel like it's missing something when it comes to comparing it any of the classics of the genre. Can't quite put my finger in exactly what is though 😂
@@davosan6782 Yup, a person can lose hours upon hours just looking at the character creation screen lol My issue with Wotr is, even though I think it's a good game to play through, the amount of Demon type enemies is waaaay too much. I know it's related to the story but still, give me some variety please :p
One thing no one ever mentions it.Guys holding weapons with high reach can attack enemies from behind your tank...For example durance and his shit stick can stand directly behind Eder
Very true, reach weapons are exceptional for a second row damage dealer allowing them to focus more on damage rather than defensive talents. Perfect style for a Barbarian for example.
Thanks for this, I’m one of those players that has zero experience with these, like I’m coming from typical open world games lol! But I am so intrigued and interested in this since I never had friends that played D&D growing up and this, I imagine, is close to that style. Thanks!
Welcome to the world of classic RPGs :D if you're looking for D&D style games, the baldur's gate series, icewind dale, pathfinder and more recently, solasta are more closely related (as they use D&D rulesets or very similiar in pathfinder's case, while pillars doesn't) but yes, pillars is an excelent choice without question. It may not use a D&D setting but it sure does a hell of a job creating its own and is one of thr greatest games ever made in this genre. Best of luck my friend, PoE is an excellent game :) And you do well to not go for the higher difficulties in the game right from the start as the game can be quite punishing at times. Have fun :D

Great video, I've had it on deep freeze but after watching this I want to take it on again and hopefully finish it. But I'm think of playing a barbarian off tank character. Out of interest what was you approach to the different acts and the White Marches dlc?
Hello and thank you :) As for my approach, it varies. You have a my full playthrough in the channel in case you want to see exactly what I do and choose. You can go to the dlcs early (around level 7) or later (the game can scale up the difficulty for that). Normally I leave the DLCs for later. I do a lot of the main story, complete the endless paths of od nua and then I take off to the white march. Once I finish part1 of the white march I immediately start part2. After those are done I come back for other tougher areas of the game like the abbey and the torn bannermen and finish the game :)
I also used choke points a lot in pillars 1. I used a fighter, paladin, barbarian frontline with a priest and wizard backline. I wasnt so sure about my last choice and flexed it. The point when you have the enemys engaged in a choke all clumping together and you cast fire wall + fire ball with aloth while debuffing with durance is so statisfying. Only played the game on hard.
A further note on buffing and debuffing, if you are stacking every category of buffs or have all the most powerful debuffs (blind, charm, petrify) the game is absolutely trivialized. The stat difference will be nearly insurmountable (given the enemy has basically 0 to all defenses or even accuracy, even on potd). Enemies basically just die and they can never hit your guys.
Ah, got it. Well, in a text explanation - you can simply equip the grimoire on your character. Just by doing that you will have access to the spells inside the book. You can also learn spells from grimoires by paying some gold (if I remember correctly it's right click - learn) and then customize grimoires to your liking. You can always add any spell you have previously learned to any grimoire. After work I'll try to do a tiny video to better explain this for you
Correction (I'll edit the previous reply) - You can only cast spells that you have learned even if you have equipped a different grimoire that has them prepared already. I made this video to demonstrate how to learn and prepare spells, hope it's useful! ruclips.net/video/FFfi6-LHSMQ/видео.html
Nice guide, My party Barbarian(main character), Eder, Durance, Aloth, Hiravias(cc machine), optinal. I think rogue necessary for enemy casters or some fights just for high single target damage, other than that if you have priest you can go anything, One time druids handed my ass over to me and kill 3 people on my party. Only my barbarian priest and druid stay alive but thanks to priest my barbarian 1v9 enemy.
Druid enemies are always a pain lol Priest really is very very important, even more so if fighting enemy druids in order to get suppress afflictions on those nasty debuffs and DoTs. Barbarians are insane - one of my favourite triple crown runs ever was with a barbarian wielding the long range spear that prones on crit, oh man, it was glorious :D
Going for my first play through and I just like to play in the most harder mode. Great guide. I’m in doubt regarding the main class, between a Priest and a Cipher (ranged). What you suggest?
Both very good choices. I would suggest a cipher especially for a first playthrough because you will feel more active and doing more damage whereas with a priest you have to take care of a lot of support duties (which may not feel very main character worthy). Only for that reasoning would I suggest the cipher. In a party they are both excellent. Also want to note that you have both priest and cipher available as companions in the game.
@@pvfpinto not in the end, but it's not one that you can get very early on no, I would say a little before mid game. That wasn't to say that it would be a bad pick for a main character, it's just that there are people who prefer to play characters that they can't find as companions. Cipher is a very solid choice.
what ratio should i uprade keep? I have been upgrading security only. I was thinking maybe double security of prestige so i dont have to think about it to much.
Honestly I don't feel like it makes much of a difference, but I think getting more prestige is better. If I remember correctly you get "better" keep quests if you get to high prestige levels. I would still not neglect security though.
Thank you so much for this. I'm playing for the first time, on xbox. This game is everything I've been looking for in a game. I'm still on the first act. One question for anyone who might see this and know please - is it possible to sequence attacks on xbox, and if so how? I'm 1 hr into the guide and it's my washing up, driving, and chilling background. You explain things very well. Thanks again
Hi! Nice to hear it's helpful :) I imagine that if the option exists on console it should show up somewhere in the keybind options. Tomorrow when I'm on my PC I'll look for the actual option name
@CoredumpedGaming thanks. I'm a much more effective fighting unit since watching your tutorial 👍 If you do happen to find the correct term for sequencing keybind would be appreciated, but no worries if not. I've googled and no joy
Ok, sorry about the delay on this response. Funny thing, there's actually no keybind for sequencing spells in the options. The only reference to it is if in-game, you open up the Cyclopedia (Quest log -> Cyclopedia tab) and then on the bottom left you have the Tips section. Do you have a "Queuing actions" page there? If you do, it should show you how to do it.
Hey hi, great vid :D I have a question: Using the same example with the Troll, Damage reduction it was DR:8 Crush 16, Burn 4 , Corrode 4, What happens if I use a freeze attack, it applies the base 16? ty mate
Hello, if the damage type is not specified, then the base DR value applies. From the example you show if I'm reading it correctly, the base DR value is 8, so since freeze is not specified, the DR applied would be 8.
@@CoredumpedGaming thanks mate 🙏🏽 Btw Quico question, can a priest be an off-tank? I’m new into the game and I started with a priest not knowing I’ll meet a priest happy to join my party 🫣
@@pingui43 you will meet a priest companion yes and they can be off-tanks. I prefer keeping them in the backline given that heavier armour slows down action time (like casting spells) but if you want them as off-tank just give them a weapon + shield, some defensive talents and high DR armour and you're good to go.
Truly. I mean, I could say the same thing about most cRPGs but this one is really one of the great ones. It checked pretty much every box in what a great cRPG should be and is one of my favourite games of all time. I replay every few years if I get the chance.
@@CoredumpedGaming you the man. I'm definitely gonna watch this through and replay it. I appreciate the effort you put into this. I'm currently playing BG3 though, couldn't help myself lol.
Stealth is something that I really only give one character. It's mostly useful to scout a little bit ahead but no real use other than that (of course it allows to move closer to enemies while being undetected but for the most part the default stealth will work just fine for that). I would give it to one character and for everybody else I would just ignore it
@@CoredumpedGaming Well in the video, you mention that you lead a party with stealth and unstealth the tank. So I would figure some amount of points are put in the entire party. Is this not the case?
It is not the case no. Everyone can stealth from the start even if their stealth score is at the minimum. More stealth points just means you can get closer to the enemies without being spotted, which doesn't matter for this situation where you're just trying to engage with the tank.
Hi :3 so I want to play a barbarian but I fear I will be bad in dialogue skill checks :( Some guides say go for high int, resolve and dex and now I dont dont what class to play for dialogue
Hello, there's a lot of very different dialogue checks for any kind of stat. Really depends on the type of character you want to make. On my rogue for example he was smart and dexterous which made sense, while at the same time failing to meet resolve requirements, which is perfectly fine. Barbarians in this game btw want to have massive int scores. Int on a barbarian increases the area of their aoe attacks
I'm in my first playthrough and what I've seen is that stat and skill based dialogue checks are fairly inconsequential. You at most skip a step in convincing someone. There are some checks that need very high and very specific stat values to get a certain outcome, but they are rare and don't matter all that much. Just build the character how you want and see how things play out.
2:08:57 If the recovery speed is halved, shouldn't the recovery time double? If recovery is, let's say, 10 points, and your original speed of 1 point per second second is halved (so 0.5 points per second), it takes 20 seconds to recover, so the time is doubled.
I would say that you are correct yes. Sometimes these tooltips can be a little deceiving but if it does as it states in the description then the scenario you describe is the actual outcome.
If you mean when I mouse over the attack roll and it shows at the end (fortitude) you can ignore that. That's likely coming from some magical attribute from Durance's weapon.
Very true, it is indeed a big difference and something that players need to take into account, especially as it makes healing less relevant and damage mitigation much more important. My thought on that was that I felt that mechanic is pretty well explained and visualized in the game right from the start so I left it out. There were also other topics that I would like to cover in the video but it's quite long as is, I didn't want to stretch it too far :(
They are both very good games. I consider Pillars of Eternity to be the better game in terms of story, WotR feels more epic however. If you want the more classic experience in a game with an excellent setting, amazing story and very good combat, I would suggest Pillars first. If you're looking for a more gameplay-centric experience, love to slay demons and like to build characters up to epic levels where you basically become a god, Wrath of the Righteous might be more up your alley. To note that you also have Pathfinder Kingmaker (predecessor to Wrath of the Righteous) which is also an excellent game. I will also say that if you are new to these types of game, Pathfinder is going to be *much more complex* than Pillars. I also have a New Player guide for Pathfinder here in case you want to see the differences - ruclips.net/video/iG8sDd4jyVU/видео.html
@@CoredumpedGaming Ended up buying Kingmaker and Pillars of Eternity thanks! I might get wrath of the righteous as well but need to do research on the DLC first
In my opinion, the best thing about the DLCs for WotR is the fact that some of them bring new things to the base game, like new classes, subclasses, items, spells, mythic abilities etc. The actual DLC "campaigns" are not very good (at least to me)
My favourite thing about food buffs is imagining the entire party, 3 floors into a dungeon, just killed some rotting undead. They scout a group of more undead in the next room through an open doorway. They all pull out a full meal, including alcohol (except the one person is drinking cooking oil for some reason) that has been in their packs for weeks. They, while still in stealth, eat an entire meal that is way past edible, still standing amongst rotting undead corpses, and then go fight a group of more enemies. Video games...
If tanking properly is one of the most important things to get right why didnt you went for more engagements like the hold the line talent or weapons like measured restraint? You think the 4 engagements that you have with Eder are enough? Do you have a video describing builds or at least describing the builds/equipment/items that you used for your party to achied the triple crown?
Hello, correct, I believe the number of engagements that Edér has as a fighter is enough. If I were taking a different class for a main tank then I would very likely consider weapons and talents that provide extra engagement. As for a video describing my party for triple crown yes indeed I do: Timestamped start of party discussion: ruclips.net/video/UPVmm4EmoNU/видео.html Timestamped talk about the builds and items: ruclips.net/video/UPVmm4EmoNU/видео.html Let me know if you need any other info :D

@@CoredumpedGaming it has been years since I have tried a game like this. 20 years probably? They have came a long way. I wish everything wasn't so satanic. Do you know of one that isn't so based in pure evil? I still can't figure out how to alter the chants to any different use. Do you have any vids on the chanter class?
Ahah, I mean, all these games have a villain. Pillars of Eternity has a particularly dark backstory which I love. The only game that comes to mind, but is not that similar to Pillars at least in terms of gameplay is Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2. Those are much more light hearted and have more comical elements to them. Similar to Pillars I would say that Pathfinder: Kingmaker also has a more "light" feel to it, even though there is also a major villain which reveals itself later on. Definitely not as "dark" of a story as Pillars however (playthrough currently ongoing in the channel in case you want to check it out). I do not have any specific videos on the chanter class, but my playthrough in the channel features a chanter all the way.

Can't quite put my finger in exactly what is though 😂
@@davosan6782 Yup, a person can lose hours upon hours just looking at the character creation screen lol
My issue with Wotr is, even though I think it's a good game to play through, the amount of Demon type enemies is waaaay too much. I know it's related to the story but still, give me some variety please :p
@@CoredumpedGaming I agree 100%
If you like it, you're in for some great times :D enjoy friend!

Great video, I've had it on deep freeze but after watching this I want to take it on again and hopefully finish it. But I'm think of playing a barbarian off tank character. Out of interest what was you approach to the different acts and the White Marches dlc?
Hello and thank you :)
As for my approach, it varies.
Great guide , this is my first playthrought i will try to play at normal , then try something advanced
Thank you, happy to hear it was useful :D Enjoy Pillars of Eternity!
Fantastic video
I was hoping for a little section on the spell books (grimoire editing) which I have found impossible playing on the PS
Thank you :)
You mean about how to learn and prepare spells in the grimoire? Or the spells that I consider to be best?
@CoredumpedGaming Actually how to use them. I think it's possible to use other spell books found on dead bodies but no clue how this is done.
@@CoredumpedGaming thanks. I know, but cipher I think that will appear in the end. Regarding that you would suggest another class?
@@pvfpinto not in the end, but it's not one that you can get very early on no, I would say a little before mid game.
That wasn't to say that it would be a bad pick for a main character, it's just that there are people who prefer to play characters that they can't find as companions. Cipher is a very solid choice.
@@CoredumpedGaming many thanks.
what ratio should i uprade keep? I have been upgrading security only. I was thinking maybe double security of prestige so i dont have to think about it to much.
Honestly I don't feel like it makes much of a difference, but I think getting more prestige is better. If I remember correctly you get "better" keep quests if you get to high prestige levels. I would still not neglect security though.
Over two hours just to get started? Sounds like my kind of game.
I'm a much more effective fighting unit since watching your tutorial 👍
If you do happen to find the correct term for sequencing keybind would be appreciated, but no worries if not.
Hey hi, great vid :D
I have a question:
Using the same example with the Troll, Damage reduction it was DR:8 Crush 16, Burn 4 , Corrode 4, What happens if I use a freeze attack, it applies the base 16?
ty mate
Hello, if the damage type is not specified, then the base DR value applies. From the example you show if I'm reading it correctly, the base DR value is 8, so since freeze is not specified, the DR applied would be 8.
@@CoredumpedGaming thanks mate 🙏🏽
Btw Quico question, can a priest be an off-tank? I’m new into the game and I started with a priest not knowing I’ll meet a priest happy to join my party 🫣
@@pingui43 you will meet a priest companion yes and they can be off-tanks. I prefer keeping them in the backline given that heavier armour slows down action time (like casting spells) but if you want them as off-tank just give them a weapon + shield, some defensive talents and high DR armour and you're good to go.
I wish people recognized this game more. Nearly every aspect of this game sucked me in and think about it often despite playing it 6 years ago.
Truly. I mean, I could say the same thing about most cRPGs but this one is really one of the great ones.

@@jericosha2842 ahah definitely a lot of hype around BG3 :D
I am enjoying it as well ^^
I wish you explained how much stealth for non-main characters in your party (you just showed Rogue). Great guide btw.
I like your assent. 😆
Hi :3 so I want to play a barbarian but I fear I will be bad in dialogue skill checks :(
Some guides say go for high int, resolve and dex and now I dont dont what class to play for dialogue
56:11 but why the accurasy is against the fortitude right now ? i think 'im missing something
If you mean when I mouse over the attack roll and it shows at the end (fortitude) you can ignore that. That's likely coming from some magical attribute from Durance's weapon.
@@CoredumpedGaming oh ok
You did not cover endurance vs hp, which might be confusing for someone, let's say, coming from Baldur's Gate.
Very true, it is indeed a big difference and something that players need to take into account, especially as it makes healing less relevant and damage mitigation much more important. My thought on that was that I felt that mechanic is pretty well explained and visualized in the game right from the start so I left it out. There were also other topics that I would like to cover in the video but it's quite long as is, I didn't want to stretch it too far :(
Should I play this game or something like Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous?
The actual DLC "campaigns" are not very good (at least to me)
Can you do a cast sequence on ps4?
I am not familiar with the controls on console :( but check the cyclopedia in your journal and look for action queuing, it should say there
where did you get that skull on your Main character ?
That helmet is this one - pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Maegfolc_Skull
It is from a high level bounty which was added in the White March 2 DLC
Thanks, been playing for 5 years and i do not know how i missed that XD. also great video, i learned from it@@CoredumpedGaming
I think the drinking of cooking oil just ties everything together nicely :D And they can even eat different full dishes to stack buffs ahah
As for a video describing my party for triple crown yes indeed I do:

@@CoredumpedGaming has anyone ever asked you if you are Dnesh Dizousos brother... Lol?
