    About Trailmakers:
    In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
    Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
    Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
    Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
    Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
    Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
    Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

    21:36 I think the reason why the pitching is very unstable is because you have your pitch control on the front of the sub. You should try to put it on the back to make it stable.
    The same theory applies on why most vehicle have their control surfaces on the back when it comes to aerodynamics/hydrodynamics (just like irl planes, boats, submarines, rockets, etc)

    • @anteshell
      @anteshell Месяц назад +13

      That is correct. The control surfaces on the front makes the vehicle much more agile which is why some fighter planes use it, but it also make the vehicle very unstable and hard to control which is also the reason why only so few planes are designed that way.
      Essentially is can only be controlled by wire, which means you tell a computer what you want the plane to do and the computer handles the actual steering.

    • @wdtgames8834
      @wdtgames8834 Месяц назад

      if the pitch was in the back it would be pushing into the ground making it impossible to get off the ground so he could never do the race, if it had a small one in the front and what he had in the front it would work like how you said.

    4:33 That's me! Can confirm using UFO engines! lol
    17:20 Here's a trick that could fix your problem there: Hinges will take as long to reach their final position no matter what angle their final position is, which means that hinges with a greater maximum angle move faster. Instead of setting it to 30 degrees, set it at 90 but trigger it using an OR gate that send a 0.80 power (Or whatever you think works best). This way it'll retain its speed and responsiveness, but will still stop around the same place that it would if it was set to 30 degrees maximum.

    4:16 Hey! That's me on 10th! I had completely forgot I got this high in bionic league!
    I'm pretty sure this record was not glitch powered*, since I barely can make them work and not at all underwater; it's either one of my up/down or side to side flapping paddles designs or perhaps one of my newer counter rotating bionic propellers designs... though since I forgot about this record it might be the older flapping paddle design (though I do have ADHD so it might also be a fairly recent record).
    The main difficulty with the bionic league, particularly with this race, is control not speed of propulsion... Since both the (somewhat) plausible servo + aerodynamics based engines I tend to use and the glitch based engines tend to use a lot of space and be somewhat twitchy to borderline uncontrollable and have fairly ridiculous speed, it's really hard to go up and down through the arch and not crash. And in this race in particular, getting starting the race is very difficult since the cockpit needs to be close to the bottom to trigger the race but most most bionic engines really don't tolerate smacking into the ground and they tend to flail about a lot it's really hard to get close enough without exploding as you engage the engine.
    *edit: actually I'm certain it's not glitch powered since the only glitch I've ever been able to somewhat control is the ufo engine (and by control I mean I managed to stay straight on the drag race like 10% of my attempts) and that wouldn't be bionic league. And since everyone is better than me at driving ufo engines; my personal best isn't even in the top 100s.
    And the hinge glitch is completely uncontrollable; I've only ever finished the drag race with it once (and it wasn't even a better time than my aerodynamic based cars, since I had to feather the "throttle" a lot to not spin out). I think I've only set a personal best with the UFO glitch in some league on the drag strip and on the centrifuge; and I think I've beat my UFO time with non glitchy bionic engines, anyway. And I never use the no drag glitch in racing because that's neither fun nor particularly easy to control since even fairly slow engines easily go supersonic without any drag.

    • @mme.veronica735
      @mme.veronica735 Месяц назад +10

      Well the one that is airtight in space but not watertight underwater can actually make sense. In space you need to keep pressure inside your vehicle while underwater you need to keep pressure outside your vehicle.
      Because the pressure is acting in different directions a cockpit could be designed in a way that it only holds pressure in one direction.

    • @trollorc8679
      @trollorc8679 Месяц назад +1

      @@mme.veronica735 , those reasonings obviously make no sense. Imagine you have a larger planet, with a greater mass than earth, and thereby a greater gravitational pull, it is theoretically possible to have that atmosphere have the same pressure than the pressure that water has a mere few meters under sea level.
      Overall, it's possible that a planet that has toxic air conditions for humans to have the same pressure as water, meaning that the reasoning that "you need to keep pressure out instead of in" does not make sense since the outside could have a larger pressure overall.
      Before you say "its just a design flaw" keep in mind that parts in Trailmakers can withstand sonic booms, literal lasers hitting them multiple times, and so much more. Design Flaws in parts are never there. TM needs to fix this to have consistency across the game.

    • @Ekipsogel
      @Ekipsogel Месяц назад +2

      @@trollorc8679 lore wise, in that situation a trailmaker would use the high pressure resistant spaceship cockpit, but under normal conditions the smaller and cheaper space fighter cockpit could be used when outside pressure resistance isn’t necessary.

    • @TEPMOBETEP
      @TEPMOBETEP Месяц назад

      @@trollorc8679 designs are different for different needs. If your spaceship doesn't supposed to enter planet atmosphere - you build it less durable for outside pressure. The rover on planet Mars can't fly. It only rolls on surface. But he was delivered via spaceship. And that spaceship made one way trip. So it does make sense. Cheap and lighter seat for just space or heavy duty space/planet/ocean explorer seat? That are very costly decisions.

    @3:54 If a plane can pressurise, its doing so in the reverse way than a sub does. Low pressure exterior and higher pressure interior (also the differential is less than the pressure difference a diving sub experiences).
    One thing to note, commercial airplanes have active pressurisation. Meaning if you cut all electrical systems and cannot operate the compressor, the plane will eventually depressurise at elevation.
    I believe subs will try to seal against most water intrusion. That if power was to fail, you will not be flooded. An aircraft should flood pretty quickly (as water is denser than air and will displace the air gradually).

    Here's another tip: parasitic drag actually matters underwater as well, so trying to minimize surface area also yeilds higher speeds.

    There is a sense of schadenfreude when Scrapman swoops in (and others) with not exploitative or glitched builds and start just wailing on the leader board. It's just that proof of "You can win without contorting the game completely out of shape." There's still come contorting going on with the janked hydrodynamics and stuff adding like 300+ max speed depending whether or not you have them. That's not as much of an exploit as it is a peculiarity of the game that if you don't know, it'll just hurt you. BUT seeing people not only point out glitched first placers and also legitimately challenging and beating them with glitchless and exploitless builds is refreshing.

    Yes you do need your own oxygen supply in planes, but the big difference is that there is much more pressure on the walls of the vessel underwater as opposed to in the air. Additionally, when you fly high you the inside is pressurized to higher than the outside meaning that the “skin” of your vehicle is trying to expand, vs when you are underwater the outside pressure is more than the inside, meaning that the vehicle is getting crushed. So overall, vehicles made for underwater have to be stronger and use materials that are better in compression, not tension which is what you need for high atmosphere/ space vehicles

    5.85/7.43= 0.78.

      My understanding is, if your current race time is 7.43s and you want to improve your time enough to finish with a time of 5.84s (5.85 would be a tie, you want to do better than 5.85) then you would have to improve your time by 21.4% ......... actually 21.399% but whose counting lol
      I have no idea where 39.26% came from. It was likely just a mistake that wasn't caught instead of a calculation error.

    22:20 Youre experiencing oversteer. That means your center of drag is ahead of center of mass. It should be opposite for slight understeer.
    A super effective solution = add a tail that is multiple blocks behind, connected by those rods which dont have aerodynamics

    To the question of stability, the drag at the front has to be less than the drag at the back in each direction to avoid continuously steering as the craft tries to fly barrel wise.
    Like fins on a sub or ship or plane.
    Trail makers does a lot to automagically make you more stable even for unstable builds but in water and at high speed that drag is a lot.

    Can you set up 2 sets of gyros that use different keys? It would take a lot of practice, but set one for fine tune turning, one for heavy turns. That way you can use the fine tuned for normal navigation, and the heavy turning for the tight turns.

    Making it shorter should improve your pitch ability. The further the mass is from the point of rotation, the larger it's moment of inertia, requiring more torque / force to get the vehicle rotating. Thus doubling up the engines would help even of you don't get an extra engine. (If this results in uneven layers, make 1 layer have 1 up 1 down, it'll still have symmetrical thrust and weight.)

    Do a dog fight in trailmakers where you have to build a plane but spin a wheel for each person to decide which plane that person will participate with for the round then respin the wheel for the next round
