A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his RUclips channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Love the sound of the pickups...owned at least 6 strats... this one sounds the best of all of them.
Took me 3 years and 2 guitars sold (Fender American Special Tele + MJT VTS HSS) to finally own a Silver Sky. It’s Golden Mesa w/maple fingerboard. Totally worth it. What a joy to play!

I was in the "it's just a Strat" community until I actually played one. Now I'm looking forward to owning one...right after I've paid for my PRS CE24.
I have a CE 24 semi hollow and I love that guitar. If you like the sound of an older strat you’ll like the silver sky. Sounds good with pedals too...
A year later, did you get your Silver Sky? I just bought a CE 24 and now I'm looking at Silver Skys. I have a problem lol.

The silver sky is one of the best sounding / playing guitars ive ever put my hands on . The only other guitar that has played better is a prs custom 24.

I love these "change my mind" segments Stev.... I mean Sean. I have never really been a fan of the strat for myself, but love others who can really play it. But if this were in a reasonable price range I would love to own one.

I’m not a big John Mayer fan, but with all the controversy I’m curious to try it. I’m also not a big Strat fan, so really don’t even know why I’m curious. Love that you stick to your guns and couldn’t even touch it!

I love the sound of the Strat, so I spent a few years looking for what I considered to be "the perfect instrument". Just so you understand how I feel about my guitars: I have exclusively been playing my 70's Alvarez acoustic for 15 years (except for when it was being re-fretted) and I never plan to play another. I needed an electric like that. I played an onyx SS and it instantly felt like the perfect match. I started practicing a few more hours a day than normal and after a year, I still can't put it down. Through my Kemper or through my 100$-ish battery powered practice amp that I keep in the living room, it sounds amazing. I've played some vintage Strats and although I enjoyed them, they weren't quite it for me. To each their own, of course, but I couldn't love the SS more.
Sure did sound like a good Strat, but I don't have the cash so whatever, I did hear that the pickups and controls are more fine tuned for better equalization. It'll maybe be a legend in 20 years.
Time will tell! But my loyalty will never fade.

What bothered me initially was the fact that two absolute legends in the game, (one, particularly know for innovation and arguably the gold standard for guitar builders) took two years to build something that *looked* like a copy...
I'm sure it's a great instrument and probably is all the things that people say it is. My problem was when they marketed it like it was the best thing since sliced bread...

Let your hands and ears decide...if you’re like me it’s you’re head that gets you in trouble! I got a red one and I let my daughters friends see it and they called it a red Ferrari.... I traded a bunch of guitars I never played to get it... best sounding strat for me...YMMV....

(Ps Sean, I totally apologized to my strat after I tried the silver sky at #EXPPRS) My take away: if I'm gonna spend more on a guitar than my wedding rings, it better be that PRS wood porn eye candy, not just a basic solid color and plasticky knobs.

I was planning on actually talking about this on the QA Wednesday, they're totally fine, but definitely a bit of an adjustment.
I will say that I'm a bit offended by it too. It doesn't have any PRS signature element to it and the headstock doesn't count. Why couldn't Mayer go with out a pickguard? How about a non-flat top?
Mayer should have signed with G&L to get his Sans-Strat Strat.

Admittedly I'm only a noob to this whole signature guitars thing, in fact to guitar playing in general, God knows I can't play, but surely the whole point of being a guitar dudebro is to look cool. Any guitar that looks like something Dr Frankenstein stapled together for the Monster to play... Clip your tuner on that headstock and you'd need penicillin.The Strat was handed down to us from the mountain, so don't tamper with it. It's unnatural.
But I will say this: that samurai chap's grey marl sportswear game is on point.

Sean is right, it's actually a copy of a Fender Elite which costs over $500 less. That actually does make it an unnecessary guitar. If you copy a popular guitar model the rule is *Make it Cheaper!*

if PRS made this without the John Mayer association, it would be more obvious how ridiculous it is. not that other companies haven't ripped off the strat a million times, but PRS is a top competitor. then again, there are Gibson S-types.
Gotta say, im with Sean Daniel. If you want a strat, get the original. How much better can it really be? (Also, im not a huge fan of PRS guitars in general, but thats a discussion for another day)
I’m a PRS fan but they really screw up with the Silver Sky (I know, I know, it was John Mayer specs, but still). And it’s not about the shape, nor the headstock, etc... it’s about the fact if they wanted to make a “modern” strat that feels good and sounds like a vintage strat, they could already start by having a modern fretboard radius (compound?) and have modern single coil noiseless pickups.

Decades & decades of strat copies from essentially every company to make a guitar & all of a sudden people are upset about THIS one? Something tells me that this one is better than a strat... maybe that's why people are upset at this particular one. Just a thought.
I think it's because PRS had established themselves as doing their own thing and breaking into, and changing, the guitar game based on their own merit and craftsmanship.

I think the problem is after years of being bought out by Fender, he got a better contract a bigger pay and some relevance by switching...and THAT is why people hate an otherwise great guitar. In a sea of commercialism and sellouts/people waiting/wanting to sellout...being real for a second would be a welcome change among musicians and people in general

Because that's kind of what Suhr and G&L do. PRS is a company that built it's name on craftsmanship and innovation. They do their own thing and crush it.

I don't understand the hate. Every guitar company has made a strat copy. I do believe the PRS Silver Sky was overhyped. That being said, I feel this guitar got a lot of hate simply because it was attached to John Mayer. It's a strat copy with some personal modifications from Mayer.

The instrument just looks unbalanced. Strat body/PRS headstock. It's not attractive. Now, the old swamp Ash special is a different story. That guitar needs to come back.
