  • Each spring firefighters refresh their knowledge of wildland fire fighting techniques - getting ready for what could be an active fire season. Part of that training is fire line construction, which is very briefly explained in this video.

    Idk how these guys wear all these clothes in 90+ weather and work all day. A completely different breed of human than me that’s for sure.

    Please explain how wide a fireline should be and why

      Every 1.5 ft tall flame x 2, because of embers and residual heat coming off of the flame that can start fires across your line

      So if flames are 6 feet tall you should have a 12 foot wide line

      No no no untrue. As a type 2ia firefighter we have a standard 18 inch wide line even in Heavy timber. The sawyers cut a 12 foot gap ahead of the hand line. This is the way its done. A dozer line may be woder though
