They can be so sweet. Many years ago, we heard a scratching at our back door. Opened it to find a young, pregnant female raccoon who had obviously seen some rough times - she was blind in one eye and had several visible scars. We fed her - she was asking for help. And when the babies were born, she brought them to us as well. For about 6 years, we met each new brood. They would come and sleep in the sun on our back deck and made us laugh so often with their wrestling and tumbling about. We missed her so much when she didn't return for a 7th year. We never names any of the younglings, but we always called her our Bebe.

I was extremely lucky to raise 4 baby raccoons when their mother died. It was the most amazing experience of my life. Bottle feedings teaching them to climb trees. Watching videos like this brings back fond memories for me. At one point they knew it was time to leave and explore the world. I grew up in a 500,000 acre ranch. So no local police or nosy neighbors complaining.
They were incredibly smart and they LOVED vanilla wafflers. They would dip them in water. And afterwards they would wash their hands in water like humans do. They figured out how to work through locks. They saw how we used our hands and did the locks in the same way. Raccoons are extremely intelligent. If I could raise another set of raccoons, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

they are indeed smart and pretty sociable and have manners which is better than some humans. I remember my wife walking home at night and encountering a family of raccoons. instead of scampering away when they encountered my wife, they stopped by the street where my wife was walking along and let her pass. it was only until my wife passed them by that they continue walking to where they were going. my only worry about wildlife is some of them could be rabid which is scary.

This is so fucking dumb. She had a chance to simply not interact with the raccoon and scare it away to teach it that its source of food is no longer from human hands. Now she's taught generations upon generations of raccoons in that area that it's okay to approach humans and see them as safe. That's _not_ good for them and this shouldn't be encouraged. Not only that, you don't let your 1 year old child hand feed them. They are still wild animals and a baby's behavior can startle them for whatever reason. One of them could be in the early stages of rabies or distemper and after the baby hand feeds the raccoon, its saliva is now on the baby's hand, and then the baby puts its hand in its own mouth. It's just so, so irresponsible. People _have_ to stop treating wild animals like pets, and at the very least, stop subjecting their children to the dangers of them.

Heard one night a sound in my kitchen went in there saw a bread pan on the floor that fell off my stove. So reach down to pick it up and it moved so I moved it a little and a paw came out. Pulled it off and picked up a baby racoon. Got a baby bottle out and fed him til he was able to eat solid food. So I let loose out side. Now he comes up every night for food I leave on a table . I see him come up with 3 to 4 more at times. I just watch them through my window. Wish he still came to me but glad I let him go.

@@SusanKay- Sounds like you have failed whatever children you're teaching not to eat lead paint. Why would you be in an area that still uses lead paint? Why are you using 30 year old methods to scare old-fashioned value families. If you're worried about the 1 in 10,000 chance to get round worm, Id like to tell you about this disease that mosquitos carry that is 100% harder to stop from biting children than a raccoon.

I have 2 acres of dense woods that is my property in my back yard along with an additional 18 acres of forest owned by neighbors.
I HAVE A ROVING GANG OF RACCOONS who have lived in my backyard since I moved in around 2008 and I try not to feed them by hand or personally put out food but I do throw out my scraps and leftovers in my back yard off the porch and the gang of Raccoons help themselves to the “EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT, WEDNESDAY MORNING ALL INCLUSIVE ALL YOU CAN EAT TRASH CAN BUFFET” the neighborhood puts out.
I usually once a month have to help a youngster raccoon who can’t figure out how to get back out of the trash can. I’ll hear yelping or scratching when I come home from work after midnight and help a youngster out of my trash can.
