I appreciate his addiction to Camellias! He's got quite a collection already. But I know how it is, you keeping hunting for a prettier one that you don't already own. Thanks for taking us around to look at all of these beauties. I saw a few that REALLY appeal to me - double flowered are my favorites & the one with pink petals trimmed in white was stunning. Can't wait to see how the remodel is going & good luck with it all.
Probably "benign neglect" after year 3😅 (unless they are poorly sighted). For ex: I have an 8×8 camellia japonica in full sun on a brick patio. I was unaware enough to plant it there; and it was resilient enough to thrive into a shrub (now tree formed ).
🙋♀️ I would LOVE to learn more about making buds on Camellias bigger. OMG!!!! Love Camellias!!! I love driving by old homes here in South Louisiana and seeing all the beautiful Camellias, just breath taking. Thank you for this tour.
Wow, these are gorgeous and I love that they don’t flower at typical times of year. I had Camellia ‘April Rose’ in western New York, zone 6a. It overwintered very well - buds and all, but my (at that time) puppy black lab decided it was tasty. The plant was demolished & barely recovered later that growing season; once the heat kicked in, it succumbed. Definitely my fault because I dug and potted it... I’m gonna try some more this spring!
I would love to know more about the growing technique that you mention in this video to know how to grow larger blooms. Thanks for sharing all of your gardening tips with us. I have found all of your videos to be very helpful!
My camellias lost so many leaves from the stress they were under this past summer. The heat and lack of rain was made worse because we had to remove some trees. I’m going to be running drip and wondered if you normally run drip to established shrubs. I don’t think they’d normally need extra water but it would be nice for it to be available for the times we don’t have rain. I guess I need to figure out a way to have a valve to them so I can just turn it on occasionally and yet still be able to water the perennials more often. Thanks for the tour!
What a beautiful collection! What is gibberellic acid and how is it different from fertilizers? What causes leaf yellowing, how to control leaf gall, scale, etc? Please provide in-depth information on camellia culture and care.
Beautiful blossoms! Please tell us more about the acid used to improve bloom on camellias. My 3 camellia sasanqua 'Kanjiro's are still blooming heavily and my unknown variety of japonica is also beginning to bloom heavily. At the same time! Wonky weather.
What works for me: a slow release fertilizer like Hollytone... After flowering. Buds are easy to see by late summer, so you can tell if you're pruning them off.
My camellia is in full bloom but it's just a baby. I'm right on the border of mid to northern NJ and it's doing great. I'm very interested in how to increase the number or size of buds, and would definitely watch that video.
Happy to know I'm not the only one obbessed with Camelia Japonicas! Mine is a double pink, and it's blooming early as well due to this warm weather. Any tips on leaf care? Mine started getting weird ridges, might be spider mites so I shot it with a water soap solution, hoping it helps!
Throughly enjoyed this tour, as I’m jealous I can’t plant these in my yard zone 6b. I always loved to be down at my brother’s when theirs blooms, but would never invest for their dogs to tear up such beauty. Would like to know about what the homeowner uses what type of acid and how it is used. You kind of answered my question if you, Tarheels, have to amend for acid loving scrubs, i.e camellia, hydrangea and rhododendrons. Thank you for all you do!
Hello Jim, I live in the Greensboro, NC area. Will the shishi do well on the north east side of my house? I don't have a true east and I get lots of sun on the other 3 sides. I'm planning a trip to Camellia Forest this month. Thank you.
Thanks for these beauties, Jim, my late father's garden favorites. I planted two camellias this fall in my Maryland garden and plan to add more. I was especially happy to see the Edgeworthia. My little stick planted in 2018 is now budded out!
Yes giberlic acid video would be fantasitc. And one of the few about the chemical and the ONLY ONE on use with camelliaa!!
So lovely!!! I adore Camillas!!!
Very beautiful!

thank you Jim they are beautiful
They really are. Thanks for watching
What a wonderful collection! I'd definitely love to hear more about how he cares for them!

I am starting to watch all the Camellia videos that you have. I am replacing the roses in my garden in north Texas.
I live in Texas zone 8a. I guessing that I would have to plant the camellia in the shade and not full afternoon sun.
YES!!!! 🙌
I’ve been waiting all day for this video ❤️ Ever since I heard you mention it yesterday.
Thanks for your patience. It has been one of those days. Beautiful Camellias in this collection. Most are available at Camellia Forest Nursery
@@JimPutnam - i just found Camellia Forest Nursery this weekend. Have you used Wilson Bros Online?
I love that double bloomed variety.
Of it's the red one, that is likely Professor Charles S. Sargent'

Thank for watching. Maybe I can get Rob to show how he does it soon.
That would be awesome 👏🏻
I would love to learn about the acid and how to effectively deal with bugs( scale I think). Beautiful video thank you!
I would love to learn about the acid for my japonicas
Hollytone... after it blooms.
Or any rhody/ Azelia fertilizer works. They all have the same needs.
Pls DO tell us how to use the acid to increase the size of the blooms
stunning collection

I'm going to have to rewatch the other video, then decide on which ones I want to buy! Thanks for always having so much to say about plants 💕.
Would love to see more about fertilizing,
Very pretty flowers!!!

They will probably adjust to be conditions pretty quick. I do like to be able to water new and old shrubs separately.
Like the music on this one and, of course, love the camellias!
Thanks for sharing...just planted a few ShiShi Gashria this fall. They are still in full bloom in SC.
That is one of the best sasanquas for sure
Hi I really like your garden it is very beautiful but how can I get my own camellias???

It is wonky for sure.
Finally out! Love camellias 😍
Me too
I ended getting some camellia seeds and look forward to seeing what I get in about 5 years.. Maybe longer 🤣.
No doubt. Cuttings are bad enough. Geez
Another Great Video!!! Would you get into a little more how to's? Selective pruning, fertilizing, etc.?

Yes, the edgworthia is showing color the first week of January. So crazy. Camellias have always been my favorite plants
I just purchased a Professor Sargent Camellia plant. I live in zone 8, middle Georgia. Can this one handle full sun most of the time ?
Would like more info to enlarge camellia buds.
Any insight on Cold Hardier varieties, zone 7ish ?
I have a 30 year old camellia that has never bloomed. It forms many buds but they never open. Should I just cut it down?
Can the leaves be used for tea?
💗👍😊
Thanks for watching
Is Camellia will growth in zone 11?
No, it actually needs a little cold. Good question
Dude , the first plant is not Japonica .
