      Haha, thank you sir! Every time I fly the DC-6 I tell myself “just get it down, level off and slow down - no need to be slick”; but old habits die hard and I almost always end up giving myself less room than I’d planned. It worked out quite nicely on this occasion though, got slowed down just in the nick of time!

      Haha, I do enjoy flying around Oz, not least of all because it’s one of the better looking countries in the sim (I find desert areas tend to look better in the sim, than areas with more vegetation). It’s an interesting country geographically as well of course. I’m sure we’ll be back soon enough (in fact I’m thinking I’ll most likely review Carenado’s next offering somewhere “down under” also).
      The PMDG DC-6 is truly excellent. I’d somewhat forgotten just how great it is. Now that I’ve reminded myself how to fly it, I’ll definitely aim to record some more vids with it : )

      Hi Tazzie,
      Yeah, as soon as I saw the TAA livery on flightsim.to, I knew I had to take the DC-6 for a flight somewhere in Oz! I would love to do a longer trans-continental hop, but I can never find the time. A beautiful livery though and I find the Oz terrain / imagery is some of the best in the sim overall (should be even better after the next world update!).
      Hoping to be back in Oz again some time soon. I think it’ll make a nice testing ground for Carenado’s C337 (whenever that releases).

      Yeah, the DC-6 is great of course. It was definitely overshadowed by their jets in previous sims. If you think the DC-6 is pricey though - I suspect the 737 might be eye-watering. Haha, indeed Ronnie, thanks for the suggestion!
      I’ve watched the tutorials and they are certainly very good. I know that Rob(?) very much stressed the importance of babying the engines. I think I was reasonably smooth on them in the air (except when matching my hardware to the aircrafts throttle positions)? I opted to go a little more aggressive on the ground, really just to expedite things for the sake of the video (I was generally smoother in previous vids, but I felt everything took just a little too long to be interesting for most).
      As they’re only virtual double-wasps, I figure I can foot the bill and worst case scenario one goes bang - it makes for a more interesting video! XD

I’d been meaning to take it on another trip for some time, but it had gotten to the point where I had forgotten the specifics of operating the aircraft and I couldn’t find the time to re-learn my way around the thing. However by mid December most states will have little to no restrictions so it looks like we will be getting a hell of a lot busier. Yes, unfortunately the whole world seems to have maintained a real aversion to anybody getting sick ever again (obviously a rather unrealistic goal). I presume that attitude is here to stay for some time yet. . . At least, most countries are now realising that we can’t stay in lockdown forever (Australia included it seems), so perhaps we are at the “beginning of the end” so to speak.
      Yep, definitely been getting much busier on my end. Went from almost nothing, to a normal roster in the space of a month basically haha. Good to get back into it, although I think I’m really going to miss having a “normal” life now. It seems it’s all or nothing with work - something in the middle would have been nice ; )

    Well.... that brought back memories. I flew the DC-4 for four years that looked identical to that. Many times to Hobart, but not sure my landings would have been any better than yours. I have been somewhat critical of some of your earlier videos, but this one of a very high standard. The only point I would make, and I completely agree with PMDG. you cannot bring the power back to idle, or even a low figure as you would in non-radial engine. It is most imperitive that the engine always drives the prop, and not the airflow. There is a technique used to keep the power constant and just adjust the drag with gear and flaps, although I'm not sure I agree with the PMDG technique of lowering and raising and lowering the flaps during the approach just to vary the drag. My lifetime of airline flying drums into us to do constant stable approaches so nothing should have to change. Anyway I'm sure you know all this, but it may be grist for the mill for some of your viewers. Congratulations on a very informative video.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  11 месяцев назад

      Cheers Phil! I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight and that it brought back some nice memories (I’d imagine that operating the DC4 must have been a brilliant experience!).
      I did try and keep the BMEP’s positive, to at least make some concession to realism but 1) I find operating the engines completely accurately, tends to make the video feel a bit more “tedious” and 2) I’m conscious that every track mile counts in terms of video length and I then almost always end up cutting myself in too early with the DC6 (and don’t give myself enough time to get slowed down) haha.
      Thanks very much for the kind words and the feedback. It’s always great to hear from those who have experience on the aircraft in question (or a very similar aircraft in this case) - much appreciated!
      All the best : )
      P.S. Are you sure that it was my videos you were critical of? I couldn’t find any such posts and I would say that most of my content is completed to a similar standard. Not that it really matters either way, if you enjoyed this one. I’m just curious haha.

      Hi Elliot,
      Glad you enjoyed the video. Certainly looks like a beautiful place to live (and fly I’m sure). Do you fly from there commercially, or for leisure?
      I wasn’t really sure what to call Tasmania. I would have thought it’s an island by definition (although I realise it’s ruddy big, just like the rest of Oz haha) - but I had thought perhaps if it’s structurally connected to the mainland as it were, then perhaps it is still considered part of the continent (although even then, I guess a piece of land in the middle of a lake, is still an island). Anyway, I’m sure you know better than me, you live there after all! ; )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Just for leisure, but also whenever I'm traveling out of the state and of course, in the sim.
      Regarding if tassie is an island, it's always been a contested subject as there's good points to be made for both arguments. Tasmania was once part of Australia. The bass straight (the body of water you flew over) once didn't exist. I'm not sure on the period, but we're talking as far back as the ice age. Because of this, we have most of the normal Aussie iconic animals but with their own quirks. The dinner table story to tell is that all the animals got trapped here when the waters rose and they had to adapt. For example our echidnas are more furry and less spiky than the mainland variant because Tasmania is much colder than the mainland.
      Because of this and the fact that there are a few prominent reasonably sized Islands off the coast such as Bruny and Maria Islands and that it's ruddy big as you say, most of the population (all 500,000 of us) just think of it not as an island but as an offshoot if you will of the mainland. That is after all what it once was.
      Anyway, history/geography lesson over, glad you flew down here, enjoyed the video. Keep it up. 👍

      Hi Tori,
      Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video!
      Haha, well at the risk of opening myself up to criticism ; )
      Firstly, I’ve often found that the term “study level” tends to open up a can of worms haha, but I think it can be a useful term for broadly and succinctly describing what the audience can expect from a product.
      My definition of a “study level” addon is essentially as follows: Could I take the real world documentation etc from a particular aircraft, use it to fly that particular addon and the addon then behave as it should (according to the real world documentation). If the answer is yes, then I would consider it “study level”.
      An addon can simply have “study level” aspects; whether that’s in the flight modelling department, systems department, sound department etc, but I would say it needs to have at least accurate systems and flight modelling to be a “study level” addon. Additionally, personally I feel the addon only needs to fulfil these criteria during normal operations of the aircraft; working circuit breakers, accurate failures etc are certainly nice to have, but not a requirement in my eyes.
      A small side note: Complexity / an abundance of required study is not necessarily a requirement for an addon to be study level in my opinion. An accurate recreation of the Wright Flyer could well be “study level”. Similarly a lot of people seem to conflate “study level” with “quality”. I think it’s perfectly possible to have a low-fidelity, yet high quality addon (eg the India Foxt Echo MB339).
      That’s my take on it anyway! What are your thoughts?
      Thanks again and all the best to you! : )

I love the DC-6, my only quibble with it is that the flight engineer's voice is too quiet. Adjusting my various volume controls doesn't seem to make any difference. Great video, really enjoyed it.

      Thanks very much Squirel, glad you enjoyed it!
      Wow, that’s a fair old stint! I keep wanting to do a long overwater segment in the DC-6, but have yet to find the time. I remember doing Sydney - Auckland, years and years ago in the Captainsim 707, using Doppler navigation - that was good fun. Completely agree re the sound levels. One of the only criticisms that I levelled at the aircraft during my review, was that it would be nice to have an option to adjust the FE volume via the EFB. It seems PMDG didn’t want to take me up on that suggestion though haha. Other than that though, a wonderful aircraft to fly / operate!
      Cheers again, happy flying : )

      You already have the option to control the FE volumes! I’m away from my PC, but one of the MSFS sound sliders are exclusively linked to the FE sound levels. Of course MSFS sets all sim volumes to 100% so in order to make the FE volumes louder, you have to reduce the volumes of all other MSFS sound sliders except for the one controlling the FE volumes.

      Hi Manouel,
      The ATC is real-world recordings, which I’ve then edited into the video. There is actually an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after : )
      I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content - enjoy the DC6 as well. Thanks very much for watching and all the best!

      Hi Ramy,
      My full setup is in the video description, but I’m using a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. My sensitivity settings are default, with the exception of the rudder, where I’m using a -50 curve.
      Hope that helps! All the best : )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations thanks, very helpfull. Been thinking of getting it. To me the warthog seems a tad bit tall for sitting on a desk, or do you have it on a mount?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 года назад +1

      Great, glad to be of help : )
      Yeah, it might be a touch cumbersome to be used on a desk (you’d definitely want to secure it somehow also), although I’m sure many do. I built myself a super clunky “mount” haha; I basically just secured the Warthog joystick to a panel, which then slides under my seat cushion. My weight holds the panel in place and the stick sits nicely in position between my legs (and at a decent height also). It’s a bit “rough around the edges”, but it works really well.
      Cheers!

    We did never enjoy the luxury of DME’s in our company’s DC6’s. Could be demanding sometimes.

    What atc mod do you use?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Hi Lance,
      It’s not actually a mod I’m using in the video, but ATC audio recordings which I’ve edited in afterwards (just to give the flight a bit more atmosphere). I believe there are some ATC chatter mods available for MSFS (based on what others have told me); otherwise you can just listen along to a little bit of LiveATC.net in the background : )
      I hope that helps a bit. All the best!

    I am the only one who thinks MSFS needs some good in-cloud effects ? Even something ¨fake¨ like what we had for P3D back in the day. The current clouds in MSFS just don´t look good when flying through them.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 года назад

      I don’t find them too bad myself David, always room for improvement of course though! Do you mean like the effects we had with Activesky when transitioning into the clouds, or more along the lines of the whiteout effect, once actually in the clouds themselves?
      Cheers! : )

    The music doesn't match 1948! Late 20's early 30's more like. Where those nav aids in place in 1948 Australia?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 года назад +1

      Hi Finlay,
      You're correct, the music is from the 20's as opposed to the 40's. A couple of points though: It is incredibly hard to find any period music that is acceptable for use on RUclips, so that rather limits one's choices. I would also imagine, as we do today, that people in the 40's would quite happily have listened to music from the 20's - so a reasonable concession overall I thought.
      I don't know that those exact VOR's existed in the 1940's (I highly doubt it), but of course the sim doesn't model period appropriate navaids. I gather that Hobart did have a radio beacon around the time, so the procedure would have been broadly the same at any rate. . .
      All the best!

    Guys this is the same as Mr Underwood made from the last sim come to think of it the DC3 too??? What's going on with these aircraft and why do you have to pay for them as all free in the last msfs. I do think we are all being taken for mugs !! Why are all codes in the new msfs locked/ hidden well guys its so easy, they have nicked the old aircraft and don't want you to see that fact.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Год назад

      Hello again Russell,
      I can’t speak on the DC6, but the DC3 is free in MSFS also (and is another aircraft that has a very nice improvement mod : )
      For sure, some devs are “porting” aircraft over to MSFS, but personally I don’t mind, so long as the addon is brought up to modern standards, or is otherwise fairly priced (and many / most are).
      Cheers!
