G did go through a lot off loss. We all do now bc of fentanyl, but all his losses came before that, when it wasn't as common. Cheers to GIZ for seeking out help to deal with the trauma. Asking for help is harder that it seems for those who are fiercely independent.
The acid blizzard story was tremendous. I'm an old Frisco head but the one time I was in NYC/Brooklyn being shown around by a local for about 10 days it was all around the Myrtle Ave train stops, so this really hit hard. The year was 1989 or 1990, too! What a city! Tower Airlines - the trip was $300 RT from Oakland.
Early 90's were harsh in nyc in that it was the era of the stealing; hats, jackets, and sneakers. Starter jackets and hats were highly sought after. I remember in broad daylight, 3 black kids point blank approached me for my Syracuse Starter hat. Another time, 2 Puerto Rican kids literally putting their hands in my pockets to see if I had money, trying to rob me. This interview conjured up some serious memories for me. Those NASA invites were always so dope, I remember. And yes, bombing is one of the biggest highs you can have, where every trouble seems to fade away. Great interview.
IT WASNT REALLY A GOOD INTERVIEW BECAUSE THE INTERVIEWER NEVER ASKED WHY HE STABBED UP THOSE 3 GUYS. HE WAS ASKING ALOT OF REAL GENERAL QUESTIONS LIKE ARE YOU VIOLENT. THATS SOMETHING THAT EVERYONE ASKS AND ONLY GETS YOU GENERIC ANSWERS WHICH IS WHAT MAKES AN INTERVIEW BORING
Living Proof should be shared at high school level, I’m totally serious, so many young heads out there could seriously benefit from hearing all this wisdom. These interviews are treasures, big respect to GIZ, best designed ‘G’ in the business.
I would love to read that book if it gets written. just hearing these stories about where I grew up and still live since the early 80s is wild. when I drive to work and I take myrtle and stop at the light on myrtle/wycoff, you can still see original VE tags on the front of a building by the fire escape.
Giz is mad cool. remember seeing his tags all over Glendale and Ridgewood in the 90s. asked him on Instagram a few weeks ago to paint on my MacBook and he was mad cool about it.
It's crazy to live through a murder capital era of a city and then the city ends up totally different for example a lot safer , then you tell stories of what it used to be like to the younger ones and they can't comprehend it, saying yeah mate people used to die here everyday and stabbings where common place most of my mates are dead or in jail for being the perpetrators. Crazy interview cheers from Glasgow city Scotland.
90’s till now , graff beef has not changed! If it’s serious, blood will be spilled ! I’ve had my elbow broken and stabbed on the collar bone over graffiti! Blessed to still be here at 30 Years old
I'm 37 from EU, beef is not really a thing here in Europe, maybe in Berlin,Paris or Amsterdam, but you don't feel it if you come as a tourist from my experience, you'd have to be very unlucky, my friend was with guy from Madrid in Barcelona and locals stabed him just because he was writer from different city
Sending love your way. I've been through many similar events as yourself. "I'm in the moment and I'm present." That's all life is supposed to be about. The world clouds out minds In a way where most of us are living in the past or future. BIG UPS GIZ!! 🤍
Now we know who wasn't running shit in the 90dees. He makes a good point those of us that did live the graff scene and 80ees 90s decades live with alot of survivors guilt!!
Thanks for the analysis! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Great interview and stories. But the timeline for NASA is off. Kech wasn't djing there in 1991 and NASA didn't open til 1992. And to be fair the late 80s and 90s in NYC was crazy but you could avoid a lot of it if you chose to especially if you weren't living in a crazy neighborhood. It wasn't just an outlaw war in every neighborhood like people make it out to be. A lot of trouble was avoidable if you weren't looking for it. A lot of kids just got caught up with not so great people.
l know a guy from deleware who goes to mmc, and 80 yr old juwesh guy, both carry knives, just to give you the full range of guys who carry knives, so it's just as bad as it was back then. even when you compare jersey city to nyc, nyc is way worse. and thats why whether its the 90s, or now, nyers dont really make eye contact. its a testament to how dangerous it is
Bro I think everyone want one more episode with Giz! This is treasure!
bro this is too good to just be one story , could listen to giz talk for hours
Respect to GIZ. One of the best episodes right here. We need a part 2.

Dope interview. And yeah, more books about the transition from the trains to the streets. And more books focused on painting the streets in the 90's.

It’s nothing compared to how it used to be you could not ride the train with anything fly on unless you was ready to fight to keep it daily
