- Опубликовано: 10 июл 2017
- This is a simple step by step video on how to stain a wood deck. I show you what tools to use and a great deck stain that makes it look super shiny and protects the wood.
I recommend staining your deck at least twice a year to keep it looking great and protect the wood. You don't need any fancy tools or experience to do it yourself.
In a bucket mix together 1 part Turpentine and
3 parts Boiled linseed oil. Stir well. You will also need a paint brush. Let the wood dry for 2 to 3 days before walking on it.

Your husband is a very fortunate man. He must have saved his country in a previous life.
I just did my whole redid my whole deck that was painted with deck over paint 19 by 16 length it took me 6 days and I’m sore from hands to toes. I just sanded the whole deck and sealed it. No stain. I just got to say you are wonder woman to do that all by yourself. Amazing work!!!
HGTV would gain a ton of viewers with this show
I just sanded and painted my deck. I got Cabot deck over because the wood was in very rough condition. If it had been a newer deck I would have used boiled linseed oil! I use it on all my wooden handles on all my tools. Shovels, rakes, maddoxes, axes, ect. It really does a good job! I never cut it with anything, but the results looked amazing for you! Great job can't wait to see more videos
matthew spalding Thank you Matthew🙂
Thank Nassrin I am not sure if it’s your good looks or your sanding skills that made me love this video
Wow, great job. My husband is on a business trip this weekend and I want to conquer this project on my own. It was great to see you at it. Wasn't expecting to see you when I googled how to stain a deck. Now, I know it is definitely something I can do by myself. Thanks again for the motivation.
Patricia Frazier That’s awesome!! Your welcome. You can do it💪🏼
Song is - take some time ? Cool video - am hoping to stain my deck tomorrow ! Buying a house I’ve been renting !
😂 intro. You worked so hard and got the most beautiful result! I need a nap after watching. I’m exhausted! I was wondering if a drum sander would have worked and saved you a lot of time? Lots of good tips You’re right about the oil mix. I’ve used it before and really like the way it protects the wood and finished look. 👍
I have yet to hire a contractor thanks to you girl, you rock! Thanks for teaching and sharing!
D Dean Yourwelcome🙂
I don't have a Patio, I don't have a Deck, I DONT Have a HOME! But I can see this video every days!!! think Mr. Miyagi will be very happy to be your Master!!

You are my new favorite ROCK STAR! Outstanding job!!
Stevi Reeves Awe thank you🙂
Really enjoyed this video. Could watch it over and over again. Trying to get motivated to stain my deck myself for the first time ever, and this helped. You're very knowledgeable, as well as lovely. Look forward to watching more of your DIY content.
gorviv529 Thank you🙏🏼
Awesome job! I am a female in the process of doing my deck! I am using the same tools she did. I checked into those heavy sanders and there is no way I can handle the size of them. Yes time consuming but when it's just you it makes a difference. Thanks for your tips!
Valerie Phillips Thank you🙂
You ma'am are awesome!!! Hi, from Hartsville, SC ☺️ I'm about to stain my two new decks too!! Wish me luck!! My poor arms were screaming just looking at you work lol
misschareebaby Hi👋🏼 Think of it as a good workout! I wish you the best!
I’m so impressed with the amount of effort that went into this!
I would have gladly paid the $1600 if I could guarantee this level of detail!
Great Job!!!
Andrew James Thank you!
Nice job Nassrin. It really came out nice. I just tore out my old deck and working on rebuilding a new one. I was planning on just using Valspar or some other deck stain / sealer. That should last a few years... I dont want to be doing it every year.......I think you could have just pressure washed your deck instead of doing all the sanding. But it was fun watching you....😍
Watched this 3 years ago, now today sanding and staining. Watching again😍
Congratulations, respecting every girl who knows something useful to do! A lot of greetings from Serbia 😀
Stevica Jovanovic Thank you!
I watched this video 6 times and i still have no idea what you said.
Thank goodness they put up sub titles
I think it was something about sanding legs and staining cute wood and nice grill.
You may take free english classes on youtube. Hopefully you can learn and understand, thank you.
Wow, I'm impressed by how much work you did and doing a great job at it as well.
Mike Anoneemus Thank you🙂

Fantástico! Seu trabalho ficou ótimo.
Nice patio-os!!
So stoked on all of your videos and your photographer is a lucky person. if you're doing it yourself some unlucky person is missing out.lol
Hellow! I will love to know the name of the stain products. I love it. Thanks. Great job!! Wao
Looked like a lot of work! Came out great!! I bet you must have been sore. Legs, shoulders, arms etc. I'm redoing my patio and extending my balcony the full size of my patio. W 20' x L 35' x H 10' I'm going to have it stuccoed. I don't feel like doing this project every few years. I live in La Cresta, California. I love the weather here, as well as the animal life and views of the mountain. I found you Fruitless Mulberry tree pruning video and saw a few more of your videos. Nice to see a home owner taking pride in there house and doing upgrades to there property. 👍👍😁
G Daddy Thank you! I try and view home remodeling as a great workout! I was sore for sure! Stucco is going to look really nice on your patio🙂
Great before and after views there. It's shining! Makes it worth the hassle hehe.
But take care of your knees!
PinkPonyOfPrey Thank you! It definitely looks super shiny.

Using that small sander on the big deck...you got a strong mind.
im a contractor gota say good job i like the oil color i always use oilbase premixed from the store ill try that mix sometime i like to use a 4 " brush also and a pump sprayer for application on decks
Chris Sowards Thank you
Save me a piece of that corn 🌽 (in Nacho Libre voice). Awesome job!
End result looked good, and I enjoyed watching your video. Refinishing decks is a lot of work. Pressure washing with a cleaner or stripping solution before sanding would have helped to make the sanding phase a little bit easier. Also using an orbital floor sander (like a Clarke) for the floors could also help with saving some time and your back. Also when staining I like to double coat all the vertical surfaces first. Then move onto the floors to finish up staining board by board, the complete width of the plank. Thia helps avoid stop and start marks that could be left from leaving spaces to walk on while doing rail and floor simultaneously. Great video and awesome work still!!! Cheers
Craig Ireland Thank you🙂
This was some great deck work!!! Nice job!
Marcos Lepe Thank you!
I enjoyed watching your videos very smart funny entertainment i like your style.

You're awesome, good job nice work!
Isidro Guerrero Jr Thank you Isidro!!
Great video. Keep them coming. I'm going to sand and stain our deck next week. Thanks for the tips.
Ruben De Avila II Thank you!
If your pressure wash your deck to remove mildew weathering or precious coating prior to the sanding phase you will make your job so much easier. Just a helpful tip from someone who does this for a living.
This is a great video. I believe that she did ALL of the sanding and ALL of the staining on this project. I REALLY DO believe that. She did a PERFECT job.
The only thing that I am doing differently on my balcony is that when I finish sanding with the 60 grit in my belt sander, I intend to work my way down to at least 120 grit.
By sanding at a finer grit, I will achieve a much tighter grain in the wood before I put on the linseed oil stain. Unless I run out of energy, I intend to sand again after the first coat of stain. The stain itself will raise the grain much as if it had water on it.
I am also considering a coat of shellac before staining the wood and 2 coats of 'satin' poly for a final step. Crazy huh?
Dennis Freeman Thank you 🙏🏼!!
When refinishing a deck, do not use a varnish or polyurethane coating that films on top of the wood, creating a “shiny” finish. These types of finishes are mainly used for indoor applications and break down easily when exposed to the elements. Rain and harsh UV rays will cause polyurethane to fail quickly, which will subject the wood to weathering. The polyurethane will blister and peel on exterior wood. This will create a nightmare to fix where heavy sanding will be involved in the removal. If you want a clear or natural look to your deck consider a deep penetrating (non-filming) clear deck sealer or better yet a semi-transparent deck stain in a natural tone.
Thanks for the tip on flipping the board! I’m going to try that!

WAOO YOU LOOK SO GREAT
Pretty impressive, that was a pretty large job and you stayed so clean throughout! Nice work..
Gentlemen's Edge Thank you!
@@NassrinsDIY nice video. ? I have a 700 square foot deck im just finishing up . How much Turpentine do you add to a 5 gallon of boiled linseed oil. What is the ratio Is it a pint to a gallon . Call me 2105020260 please
Great video! I learned alot.
Brad Hall Thank you!
Good job girl on the deck!
spencer brown Thank you!
This is a HUGE job! A whole lot of work. I know this took a few days, especially if you did it all by yourself.
You remind me of that old agile perfume commercial. You can bring home the bacon, fry it in the pan and never let you forget you are a man LOL
Just like you your project turned out beautiful! But! Linseed oil is guaranteed constant maintenance, yep every 6mos or so, (not to mention attracts mad dirt and prints) I did the same thing for 5 yrs, today getting ready to stain with Cabot semi-transparent oil to hopefully prevent from constant maintenance and sanding every cpl years, wish me luck!!
Good job painting
Damian Bryant Thank you Damian!
Gracias por contestar eres muy amable muchas bendiciones para ti y tu familia 🌷
Beautiful :)
Thanks very helpful

HELP! What is the best method for removing old deck screws? I know there is not an "easy" way but I trust your advice. TY love your videos.
I think I'm in love with this girl,,,I will ask santa for her this coming Christmas,,hopefully she is not taken 😂😂😂😂
Great video. Took me 2 days just to sand.
Derek Iwasiuk Thanks!

GILSON BATISTA DA CONCEIÇÃO Thank you!
That was amazing ! I've been in construction for 40 year's and I've never seen anyone jump in and get it done like you did ! Nice work darling ! I still wish my wife could do that ! Lol .
Robert Elliott Thank you🙂
Thanks! This video was very informative. I have a very small deck that'll require some screwing to tighten up the boards before staining. I'm going to try out the tits that you suggested.
I’ve just recently been viewing RUclips videos about eco-friendly stains and sealants you only have to apply once to untreated wood. I don’t know how they will do on previously stained wood, like your deck. It would be wonderful if they worked on your deck. One of them does turn the wood a weathered gray-brown, so that might not work for you, as you prefer the honey color.
Have you considered pressure washing?
Your deck looks great. I just watched your bathroom renovation project last night. I can’t tell you how impressed I am for all the really hard work you did and how great your bathroom looked in your last posted video on the project, it ended with you saying you were going to grout the shower the next day. I was hoping to see the final final of your project, a before and after shot, too. Perhaps you posted that and I missed it.
Best wishes on your future projects!
- Gina Thank you Gina! I will be posting my next video Grouting and sealing the shower soon!
