  • This is a simple step by step video on how to stain a wood deck. I show you what tools to use and a great deck stain that makes it look super shiny and protects the wood.
I recommend staining your deck at least twice a year to keep it looking great and protect the wood. You don't need any fancy tools or experience to do it yourself.
In a bucket mix together 1 part Turpentine and
3 parts Boiled linseed oil. Stir well. You will also need a paint brush. Let the wood dry for 2 to 3 days before walking on it.

I just did my whole redid my whole deck that was painted with deck over paint 19 by 16 length it took me 6 days and I’m sore from hands to toes. I just sanded the whole deck and sealed it. No stain. I just got to say you are wonder woman to do that all by yourself. Amazing work!!!

I just sanded and painted my deck. I got Cabot deck over because the wood was in very rough condition. If it had been a newer deck I would have used boiled linseed oil! I use it on all my wooden handles on all my tools. Shovels, rakes, maddoxes, axes, ect. It really does a good job! I never cut it with anything, but the results looked amazing for you! Great job can't wait to see more videos

😂 intro. You worked so hard and got the most beautiful result! I need a nap after watching. I’m exhausted! I was wondering if a drum sander would have worked and saved you a lot of time? Lots of good tips You’re right about the oil mix. I’ve used it before and really like the way it protects the wood and finished look. 👍

Nice job Nassrin. It really came out nice. I just tore out my old deck and working on rebuilding a new one. I was planning on just using Valspar or some other deck stain / sealer. That should last a few years... I dont want to be doing it every year.......I think you could have just pressure washed your deck instead of doing all the sanding. But it was fun watching you....😍

End result looked good, and I enjoyed watching your video. Refinishing decks is a lot of work. Pressure washing with a cleaner or stripping solution before sanding would have helped to make the sanding phase a little bit easier. Also using an orbital floor sander (like a Clarke) for the floors could also help with saving some time and your back. Also when staining I like to double coat all the vertical surfaces first. Then move onto the floors to finish up staining board by board, the complete width of the plank. Thia helps avoid stop and start marks that could be left from leaving spaces to walk on while doing rail and floor simultaneously. Great video and awesome work still!!! Cheers

  • @freeman3320

This is a great video. I believe that she did ALL of the sanding and ALL of the staining on this project. I REALLY DO believe that. She did a PERFECT job.
The only thing that I am doing differently on my balcony is that when I finish sanding with the 60 grit in my belt sander, I intend to work my way down to at least 120 grit.
By sanding at a finer grit, I will achieve a much tighter grain in the wood before I put on the linseed oil stain. Unless I run out of energy, I intend to sand again after the first coat of stain. The stain itself will raise the grain much as if it had water on it.
I am also considering a coat of shellac before staining the wood and 2 coats of 'satin' poly for a final step. Crazy huh?

      Dennis Freeman Thank you 🙏🏼!!

    • @peterg830
      @peterg830 6 лет назад +1

When refinishing a deck, do not use a varnish or polyurethane coating that films on top of the wood, creating a “shiny” finish. These types of finishes are mainly used for indoor applications and break down easily when exposed to the elements. Rain and harsh UV rays will cause polyurethane to fail quickly, which will subject the wood to weathering. The polyurethane will blister and peel on exterior wood. This will create a nightmare to fix where heavy sanding will be involved in the removal. If you want a clear or natural look to your deck consider a deep penetrating (non-filming) clear deck sealer or better yet a semi-transparent deck stain in a natural tone.

I’ve just recently been viewing RUclips videos about eco-friendly stains and sealants you only have to apply once to untreated wood. I don’t know how they will do on previously stained wood, like your deck. It would be wonderful if they worked on your deck. One of them does turn the wood a weathered gray-brown, so that might not work for you, as you prefer the honey color.
    Have you considered pressure washing?
Your deck looks great. I just watched your bathroom renovation project last night. I can’t tell you how impressed I am for all the really hard work you did and how great your bathroom looked in your last posted video on the project, it ended with you saying you were going to grout the shower the next day. I was hoping to see the final final of your project, a before and after shot, too. Perhaps you posted that and I missed it.
Best wishes on your future projects!

@@NassrinsDIY Nassrin, amazing amount of sanding you did. Especially the fiddly bits around the ballustrade. I wish I had your dedication to detail. Thankyou.
