@@Violinsforu2 Thanks! I'm tuning in from Bangkok. Picking up an old German factory violin after almost two decades away from the violin, which was my first instrument growing up. 💜
On your new fiddle top the tap tone needs to be the same across the whole plate . Easy to adjust by thinning high tone areas including the bass bar . A test which the old boys kept quiet about !
Hello Cheryl. Greetings from the UK! I just wanted to thank you for all the time and trouble you must take to make and post your videos - they are really interesting.
Thank you so much, Mr Pinch, for your kind comments. I really appreciate it. There are times I wonder if I should keep going! I love the little drawing next to your name. Do you play the organ? Thanks again and God bless you!
Hello, Teacher, good evening, what a beautiful landscape you can see outside the workshop, thank you very much and if it's cold, I send you a big kiss and a giant hug for my friend Freddy, how is he, Teacher, thank you for reading the Hebrew, I wanted to ask you how some followers have also I put the pore filler that you use in the large bottle and what dye you use, thank you very much, I send you a big hug and greetings from. Denia, Valencia. España !!!!!
Dear Carol, it is so nice to hear from you! I am so glad that you like the Hebrew, and Freddy, and the videos! The sealer coat is made from dissolving lac in denatured alcohol and then I add a little bit of gamboge to give it a golden color. Sending love and greetings back to you over there in Valencia! Hope you have a wonderful blessed week!
Your repair work is just amazing! You are literally giving the 1600's violin a new life. Is this one of the oldest instruments you have repaired? I hope the original maker is aware his centuries-old instrument is in loving-hands. Tell Freddy I will send photos. Stupidicus.
Yes, there are just a handful or two of instruments in this age group under my belt. It is true that I love to carefully care for these instruments. Thank you for your great comments. Freddy will be so excited!!!
@@Violinsforu2 hello, I was surprised to find the Hebrew Minute👍🇦🇺, I’m in Australia keen to see your upcoming videos. And listen to more Hebrew Minutes.
As I'm sure you'll know, Tom Pinch is a character from the novel "Martin Chuzzlewit" by Charles Dickens. The little picture of him is from my ancient copy of the novel. Tom has been my faithful representative on RUclips ever since I joined in 2010. My real name is Ian, but like Tom I do play the organ at my local church. It would be a sad day if you gave up posting.
Wow! That is so interesting. Thank you for telling me about Mr. Thomas Pinch! That is a wonderful idea! We miss the organ around these parts so it is great to hear that you still play. I love any instrument that brings praise to God! Thanks for the encouragement! God bless you!
Hi Cheryl, I have a question(s). Do all of the repairs on old violins influence how you make a new violin? What I mean is, do you make things in a certain way so that they might not need to be repaired in the future? Thank you for another in depth video.
Yes, in some way we do. Things like the sealer coat on the inside discourages bugs and just a little thicker around the edges holds off cracking a little longer. But if someone drops or sits on an instrument, there is not much we can do about it!!! Thanks for the great question! I hope you have a wonderful blessed week!
Would you elaborate about the "sealer coat"? Are you using a spirit varnish with coloring added into the varnish? If so, what type of colorants do you use? Dyes, pigments?
Hi Brad, Thanks for commenting. My sealer coat is a spirit varnish which I make here in the shop from lac and if I want coloring, I will add gamboge resin. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Very interesting video! Sandpaper on a violin? I thought that was a "no-no". Also, did "no school" mean you had no lessons that day? The Hebrew minute is from Jeremiah 31:25, not a very familiar passage to me--I had to look it up! Hi, Freddie! Keep up the good work and I'll send you some pictures!
Yes, you are right! It is okay to do the edges, but not the inside and outside of the plates where the vibrations are. Thanks for finding the Hebrew Minute! Do you want tougher ones or easier ones? Thanks for sending pictures. Freddie will be quite pleased!
Her husband is a lucky fella. She has such a sweet soul that really shines!
It’s so refreshing to see women taking up this trade. She gives it such a nice feminine touch. Such attention to detail.
Patience and skill. All the tiny pieces bringing a whole new life to the old violin. Wonderful project. Have a great week.

That ancient violin repair is moving faster than I was thinking. May be because I assume everyone works as slow as I do.
