Actually your Theorie about Palpatine beeing all Droids does not make no sense. Have you ever heard the tragedie of IG88. He was from a line of Assassin Droids who eliminated their masters and whilst trying to start a revolution of Droids hacked the Death Star, though got stopped with its destruction. Maybe the force spirit of Palpatine somehow possesed a left programm and took over all Droids
@@striderx2048 Actually, there are fully armored versions of this model of Y-Wing. It's all buyer's choice whether they want it armored or not. I can imagine the ones in use by the New Republic were fully armored like the clone wars era BTL-B to appear more like something a proper government would use rather then something a ragtag group of freedom fighters would use as well as to be a bit more durable whereas these ones in use by the Resistance aren't so that they're easier to repair and modify as well as to increase agility, just like the BTL-A4 Y-Wings used by the Rebels
Y-Wings are one of my Favorite Republic/Rebel/Resistance ship, and since that astromech has no name, Imma call it 7U-KR or Tucker. I’m also looking forward to adding a new Poe Dameron to my collection.
Never thought I'd hear the word "azimuth" in a LEGO review, and yet here we are. This is why I watch some of your Star Wars content despite having no interest in the franchise.
Thanks Jang. I'm getting tired of their print jobs and then falsely advertising them as more opaque than they really are! Lego, paint your stuff better or don't show it as painted better in the box art!!
Thank you! The printing goofs coupled with the boxes showing the "accurate" product is wholly inexcusable, especially given the prices for their products. They KNOW this is an issue, and until they fix it they NEED to start including accurate art on the boxes. Until they do, everyone who buys a product with a radically inaccurate printed piece is entitled to a refund as far as I am concerned.
Matthew Hedgecock Lego knows it is an issue but they want their sets to look good on the box. I am never expecting something to look as good as it does on the box or cover though it’s still a pain when all the pieces around the cockpit are a bright white colour then you get to the cockpit piece and it’s quite darker compared to what is originally shown on box.
I've started to HATE the grey printing on the cockpits. Really hurt the Stark Industries jet and the latest space shuttle. Keep up the good fight Jang!!!
This channel is so amazing I love watching LEGO reviews but so many Tubers have loud and obnoxious voices but I couldn’t count how many times I’ve fallen asleep to Jang’s voice
D-O looks like a hairdryer. I really can't stand the print quality on the cockpit - why is it not white? Is it really too much to ask that they find a way to print opaquely?
Also the fact that they don't print on the sides, they HAVE printed on the sides before, on both UCS Y-Wings, but for some reason they just don't for these smaller ones.
They haven't been able to print decently in years. This doesn't even bother me as much as the minifigure faces printed on black heads that end up looking like zombies. Or worse.
I think that this y wing is amazing and that the minifigure selection in spectacular. I know that the canopy printing isn't the best, but look on the plus side. EVERYTHING ELSE IS AMAZING
Great and honest review. I absolutely agree with the discussion about the "false advertising" or misrepresentation of the printed colour on the cockpit. It is very disappointing to see this continue to happen. Thank you and looking forward to the next review!
I find it to be more like the newer lego sets are more expensive than they used to be(not counting inflation) so the retailers are immediately discounting them.
World0502 Hello this is cheaper than the last y wing. Same thing goes for the a wing and the kylos shuttle. Well here in the uk anyway. But yes I get what your trying to say, purposely increasing the official price to allow other companies to discount sets to get to what seems like a more reasonable price.
I really like this model because it is basically minifig scale, which is something I like for displaying models, and it has functional folding landing gear!
I've passed on buying some LEGO sets ONLY because of the poor printing, and that's not even hyperbole. The recent City Space sets for example, I was excited for them but in reality a lot of them look awful because of the terrible printing on the canopies. LEGO, if you can't do printing up to the quality we expect from you, don't print pieces at all.
For the un-matched problem with actually Lego and the box image? It’s not happening to just this Star Wars set, its happening to most of the Hidden Side sets.
Something they could have done for the new droid: Introduce three separate elements that could be to great effect no matter the set. The "head" could have been a new cone piece with a bar hole that would be very useful as a wall sconce, and the wheel could have been a wheel with a new mount piece with a bar attachment point.
Poe and Bliss are actually old friends according to the press release. Also important question for Jang, are you having issues with places figures on the holo chess couch in the falcon? My panels won’t close even while they’re sitting
About that canopy ... now, i don't per se mind that they brighten up the white for the box art a bit. However, speaking in general terms, print quality is something LEGO really needs to work on. Be it the heads of R2-units, canopies like this or certain minifigure-heads (like Lady Iron Dragon from Ninjago Movie sets or Mercy from the Watchpoint Gibraltar set) ... both quality and positioning of prints needs to improve a lot. And while we're at prints - i wouldn't mind getting a lot more of them. Especially larger pieces like those curved slopes at the Y-Wngs cockpits could easly be made prints. I understand that not every single piece can become a print, but in the price range of the Lego SW sets, a few more prints should be doable.
Rednas personally I think it should have looked closer to anikans y wing as I think at this point in time this y wing design should still be new. So that would also mean that there is no reason to strip off the panels to access for maintenance. I like the choice of colours for this y wing so I think it would be cool to see it carried on throughout the rest of the y wing.
Sorry that i did not see the link earlier. This review with the comparison made me decide to buy the set and the previous one, which I had wanted to buy previously, but never got around to it.
Hey jang, thank you again so much for the review and always love your videos I have subbed since you had 500 subs and just so you know I just bought this today so this really helped =)
I sort of hoped that the new film would go with the B-wings instead of the Y-wings because it seemed like a natural evolution of torpedo bomber and heavy ordinance vehicle design in-universe, but I guess they want to milk off of nostalgia :P
Jang: I know you could never possibly know this, but there were 2 Y-wings during the OT: The BTL-A4 (Ep.4) has one seat and was built as a replacement to the BTL-B (so it has cowling) The BTL-S3 (Ep.6) was built as a 2-seated A4 and was the 1st ship designed without cowling.
I literally build this today. Was annoyed with the stress put on the grey bars and their connector's as well, but you can fix it quite easily. Once you got them on do the following. On each side of the grey bar pinch the connected piece (the grey bar accepting pieces) between your fingers, and gently pull them outwards until the connector pieces straighten out (they become parallel with the fuselage like section). At this point you should also see the grey bar lift off of the fuselage instead of being pressed down against it. This basically fixes the stress issue. It just means the bar is not fully pushed in to one of the two connector's, but it is by such a minimal degree that I wouldn't be worried about it ever becoming loose. I hope I explained it well enough, good luck!
Its actually nice build, Im thinking between kylo rens shuttle and this in pair with new Poe's x-wing...Im definitely buying all but not at once...January will decide, cant wait for mandalorian battlepack. Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone!
1 quick observation on my own: The changed placement of the spring-loaded shooters really serves to clean up the underside of the cockpit. At the same time adding the "blockiness" of the shooters to underneath the wings I think works fine as it was always a bit blocky in that area to start with =P
Man, looking at this, now I need them to do a new Original Trilogy Y-wing with some of the techniques from this (including the curved slopes on the top and bottom of the front "head" of the craft) when I thought I was perfectly satisfied with my Rogue One one! Agh.
I've been looking forward to this review specifically to see if you had concerns with those technic beams/exo force hands. I ran into the same issues and played around with how far to push the exoforce hands into the technic bits. Couldn't find anything that worked super well and there is definitely tension on just about every one of those connections. Glad to hear I didn't build it wrong, but sad to see that that was more of a design flaw/issue.
I've been collecting and building Legos since the late 1970s. I have noticed here recently with the new release of ships especially in the Star Wars brand, looking cheaper. Looks as if they were designed and then redesigned using Les engineering less realism. I hope that Lego isn't following the trends of the times and producing less quality products. I'm a huge collector of Star Wars and have been so since they first release their first box set. Backwind lucasfilm's was helping the production crew at Lego get the ships crafts and playsets accurate. I have personally noticed a lot of things designed incorrectly and more cheaply. I'm a Big Y Wing fan and have the collectors model along with five other of the smaller versions from the movie solo. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the cheaper looking ships and playsets are because of them lowering the prices to their Distributors so that they can actually compete?
I bought the Rogue One Y-Wing and was not as impressed with it as I thought I would be. Looking at it in comparison to the Resistance one, I can see why! The new one has a much better build in the cockpit and turret area, which looks so much sleeker, along with the more unique and elongated build for the front and tail of the engines. And while it is subjective, I think the color scheme and smooth edges are a big step up too. I do not think I am going to purchase this yet because I do not need another Y-Wing, and while I am not thrilled that they did a remake of the ship so soon, this looks like an improvement, or at least a good variation, of what came before.
i would like this set honestly , it seems like a very fun set with all of the minifigs and the features it kind of looks like a small repaint of the Y-wing that we got a few years back but its nice because i actually didn't get the Y-wing from 2017 so thats why i want to get this one.
I remember getting the very first Y-Wing in 1999 and I thought it was spot on when it comes to accuracy, but they have improve it over the years, we've seen many versions, including the UCS version, this new version is quite cool, remains to be seen if it will be screen accurate for the new movie, it's nice to compare older sets with newer ones to see how different they are, gives you a much better idea and helps you choose if you want to buy the set or not. But I agree that 70$ is too steep, come on Lego! It's not just because it's affiliated with Star Wars that you need to jack up the price! And fix that mismatch colors on the canopy, it's getting really annoying, if it's supposed to be white, then make it white! Nice review, Jang!
I like the new questions section you're including. With the boom parts that attach to the engines, could you have the technic axle just not quite all the way into the round hinge to make the distance work?
I like the cockpit module design, and the new design for the vanes on the nacelles. Shame it's not equally applicable to the original trilogy and Legends like the new Falcon and A-wing are.
ahhh if you remember the Phantom Minochee movie, old Palp was on a droid. ITS ALL TRUE. also; lego has always been a how you says “upper” to “upper middle” class toy. and its sad honestly because they are so great
Everyone should knock a point off their review scores on Lego.com, amazon etc until LEGO remedy this shameful situation with the awful off-white canopy prints. Well done to Jang for taking a strong stance on it. Only set I bought was the City Rover Testing Drive, and what I got was not what is portrayed on the box (though thanks to Jang's review I was prepared in advance). It will certainly be a decision maker in future purchases. Get your act together LEGO, I'm sure you can afford to improve that particular manufacturing process. It's 2019, printing true white on some clear plastic really shouldn't be that hard. Otherwise, be honest with your box art and stop leaving people disappointed!
I really like the set overall but the tension on the joints issue might be a deal breaker, especially having the rogue one set already. If the joints are truly like that in the set, I'm going to have to say no. Hopefully we'll find out for sure from others.
Leaving my previous comment alone because it was to explain how to fix the piece stress issue. I hope they bring back the new capes. I actually liked the bit of cloth thickness they added for the look of certain characters like Kylo Ren for instance. I absolutely hate the old capes in comparison. They are such a pain, they just crinkle all the time and collect dust like crazy. Haven't had the new capes pick up nearly as much dust in the same amount of time or perhaps it doesn't show up as clearly. It just pains me. Bit dissapointed with D-O (really wanted him to have a wheel and roll about, but I guess I got my hopes up too much), but I already plan on getting extra's and using him in my city as a plant spray/watering utility, Just stick any piece that can be a handle in the back of his head (like the old style gaz nozzle/pistol piece) and there ya go, neat green high end plant spray. Love the astromech. Always like astromech's that are different in some way and I love the teal colour in general. So super happy with that addition. Zorii's helmet looks super cool. Would make for a good custom bounty hunter helmet or just general sci-fi helmet for a MOC crew. And to end my little yay and nah section. Damn that false advertisement stuff lego pulls with figure prints and in this case the cockpit print. Spent the extra 20 cents on paint to have it actually be white ya cheapo's.
To solve the stressed hinge piece situation, have you tried to just not have the axle pieces (the ones on the front above the white engine hull part) stuck all the way into the hinge base pieces? Hope I explained this understandably.
I much prefer the newer reign of cockpit and colour scheme, The smoothness problem could be worked out with greebling, however I think the cockpit looks better necatse it the smoothness, it lends to the geometry of that area better, even if it is slightly too thin in height and width compared to the exact models from original trilogy. It is still an improvement on the previous release, which I did like. The Y-Wing has been my favourite ship from the universe with a close match up between it and other favourites. I think it embodies a number of interesting and realistic vehicle characteristics that make sense to people while also conveying a sense of brute force and elegance in equilibrium. The bulky shape and rudimentary back end mesh interestingly with the dynamic and confined cockpit area, and the overall symmetric shape that lends to a shape of a shark or spear or missile. I think the updated design squeezes in more of these qualities than the prior design. I’ll attempt to let you know how I go with the technic parts used in the engine pod framework construction. Also I payed full price by buying on first day of release from big w, when target had it already discounted.. 😶 going to ask for a retrospective partial refund.

I think the LucasFilm designers should have took some cues from the TCW version instead of going back to the McQuarrie well.

The teal Astro mech is awesome
Obviously Zorri Bliss is Teedo, back to get BB8
I got the yellow version and turned it into a AT ST/turret/PERFECT kickstand for a phone or my friends Nintendo switch
I really like this have the previous one but still have this on my want list
i really want that astromech droid, i have a collecting problem when it comes to them lol
How benevolent of our LEGO overlords to overprice the set so the retailers could give a false discount so the product is at correct price.
This helmet looks awesome! :O
I wonder if Zori is the leader of The Kanjiclub, coming back to do the work herself haha. I hope she is at least interesting
I like the new questions section you're including.
With the boom parts that attach to the engines, could you have the technic axle just not quite all the way into the round hinge to make the distance work?
Poe = Indiana Jones, Y-wing pilot= Overwatch character.... Hmmmm repetitive much ? BUT I LIKE EM 👍😁👍
you're the best Jang!
I like the cockpit module design, and the new design for the vanes on the nacelles. Shame it's not equally applicable to the original trilogy and Legends like the new Falcon and A-wing are.
Well, even though I have the Y-Wing from the previous line, I still like the new version enough to buy this :-) Same with the new trilogy A-Wing.
I'm still mad at myself for not getting the last one for $26 at Target a couple years ago. Still the best version.
OOF, that hurts
ahhh if you remember the Phantom Minochee movie, old Palp was on a droid. ITS ALL TRUE.
also; lego has always been a how you says “upper” to “upper middle” class toy. and its sad honestly because they are so great
Walmart has it for 56, and I’m waiting to get my hands on this one! It looks great to me
Target too.
That Astromech is TR-8R all over again
I ordered one yesterday and it said it was out of stock until like June or July?! Not sure why
Doesnt look half bad, I really like the turret on the back, but ive always preferred the way the Y-wing looked in the clone wars.
I'd like Lego to provide stickers for the white instead of bad print.
If they make a USC version I will definitely buy it
one of the best lego set ever (:
Ready,Set, Build! No
To solve the stressed hinge piece situation, have you tried to just not have the axle pieces (the ones on the front above the white engine hull part) stuck all the way into the hinge base pieces? Hope I explained this understandably.
It looks amazing!
I much prefer the newer reign of cockpit and colour scheme,
The smoothness problem could be worked out with greebling, however I think the cockpit looks better necatse it the smoothness, it lends to the geometry of that area better, even if it is slightly too thin in height and width compared to the exact models from original trilogy.
I got the same engine problem. I also noticed that the hands had little friction to hold together the long lines and as a result I lost a piece.
Hey....that's pretty good!
