I liked both versions but the black and white did edge for me and the crop really made the main subject stand out more. Really looking forward to your book release Stuart and it's one of two I am planning to buy at the moment. Hope Assynt is a productive trip for you
I like the color and the black and white. I would use them as prints in different ways. I do love the background of the black and white. Nice pics. Nice to have you back after the holidays.
Love the shot Stuart, but for me the colour one wins every time, especially if I had to look at the image on my wall every day. I totally get your comments on the composition being better in the B&W image, but I prefer the colour one - sod the rules it's just a gorgeous image!
I think what makes the B&W work is the crop has pushed the sapling off centre, whereas in the colour version it was slap bang in the middle. Works better for me slightly off :)
Agree, I don’t mind central places subjects hence the first one though bright areas right on the frame edge with such a prominent subject like the sapling aren’t the best approach
Hi Stuart, good video to start the year off. I much prefer the colour version of your image. I like the sapling front and centre in the colour version and behind that the colour version shows the texture on the hills due to the sunlight.
I think I prefer the colour image - it has a cool warmth to it that I find really appealing - maybe do the same 5x4 crop though as I agree with you that Walla Crag dominates the right hand edge. Lovely video Stuart and all the best on your travels. Best
Hi Stuart. I like the B&W version but my preference for a wall mounted print would be the colour. Reminds me of a James Popsys type of image 🙂 Happy New Year 😀
hi Stuart, wish you a successful 2024. go along with your analysis of the photo. both the cut and BW high key are the right choice. I'm already looking forward to your book. best regards Holger
Hi Stuart , two very different takes on the same location each have the merits, for me , i think i prefer the colour version but both fantastic images. Looking forward to following along with your journey , hope your well, take care mate.
Would have liked to see you crop the colour shot which I liked a little more with its muted tones. It was a look all around the picture which I found soothing. The black & white was about the sapling with the background not giving much at all. Have a great 2024 and have some fun with Mr Littlejohn.
Cheers Iain I did try that though I kept finding the bright light in the right corner of the frame too distracting with that crop, it needs to be either in or out hence the colour version being the full width
Have to say I really liked both images but the colour worked better for me but horses for courses, great news about the book ! Yes please ! And don’t forget to pencil in a May trip to Dorset ;) HNY
Excellent...love the submerged tree shot and altho' I was sceptical about the b/w it works well. Looking forward to the Assynt stuff...there myself again soon....and how not to include Suilven in each shot!!?? Your vids are a great source of comfort and inspiration for us Northern togs who struggle with weather but love our 'scapes.
Great vid, Stuart! I really liked the colour image until I saw the cropped black and white one, which was amazing! I hope you had a productive time in Assynt and I hope you get some barmy conditions up in Lofoten once again.
Happy New Year, Stuart! Manesty is such an amazing spot, love that side of the lake. I honestly prefer the colour version of the sappling shot, the soft morning light looks stunning!
I prefer the colour image here. I couldn't help being drawn to the dark wood on the left in the B&W which I found distracting. Looking forward to the content from your travels this year.
I like both but the colour just edges it Stuart Maybe try cropping the colour one a bit like the B&W. Great video as always and keep up the great work. 👍
Happy New Year Stuart. I think the cropped B&W image is more balanced and works well. That said, I do like the colours in the original image but I find two thins a little distracting - the sapling (I know) and the orange 'thing' in the middle of the clump of trees. Thanks for the video and good luck with your forthcoming trips.
Cheers, HNY to you :-) not sure i'd agree with the main subject being distracting otherwise it just becomes another mundane vista/reflection shot lol I'm not sure which orange thing you mean it's just light reflected off the hillsides
Good to see you back Stuart, Happy New Year. Like a lot of the comments I do like the colour of the original but the crop really improved the composition. Did you need a dingy to get to Manesty 😂👍
You're the judge, but I prefer that color image of the sapling, just did not prefer the boxy feel of the B&W, and prefered the warm tones of the color.
Love the BW. Minimal and simple. Really effective.
👍👍
Always Black and White for me. Have a great 2024.
👍👍
Very nice to see you back making videos, Stuart; look forward to seeing your next one.
Cheers Terry
Agree with the black and white conversion and the crop buddy. Good luck with the book
Cheers Tom
Happy New Year Stuart, totally agree with you the black and white allows the tree to be the main element and a nice subtle background and reflections.
Cheers Brian

Cheers Dennis
Liked the B&W conversion - wondered whether a 1:1 crop would look good too
👍👍 I tried the square but it was a bit tight

Thanks Mark 🙏

A happy new year Stuart, definitely the colour version for me. Looking forward to more from you this year.
Thanks Colin

Enjoyed that mate, b&w very nice indeed! And much prefer that composition too! 👍🏻
Cheers Andy

Nice and easy video. Liked the BW photo 👌
Thanks Stig 👍

Cheers mate interesting responses, about 50/50 ish, all subjective lol

Great video, Stuart. Interesting to see such high waters there! Love the two approaches to this view. I'll be back there some day!!! Happy New Year!
Thanks very much
Great vid, Stuart! I really liked the colour image until I saw the cropped black and white one, which was amazing! I hope you had a productive time in Assynt and I hope you get some barmy conditions up in Lofoten once again.
Thanks Ian much appreciated
Great intro to video, shan’t grumble too much about excess water after seeing that ! B&W best image, some interesting colours in the wood
Thanks Stephen
I have to go for the colour version, I’ve pondered for a while but can’t identify why the B&W doesn’t quite work for me. Best wishes for 2024.
Thanks Brian
Happy New Year, Stuart! Manesty is such an amazing spot, love that side of the lake. I honestly prefer the colour version of the sappling shot, the soft morning light looks stunning!
Thanks Simon 👍
Great film . Did Gavin Hardcastle sell you his jacket 😉......? Beautiful pictures
Cheers 👍
Best wishes for 24 Stuart, look forward to seeing your videos. How's the golf swing coming along, or are you waiting till off the winter tees? 😀
Thanks Bob, lots of range work and the odd knock when weather permits like I used to do - all coming back together nicely thanks.
Happy New Year! Tough one Stuart, I think I am just on the side of the BnW as it is all about that sapling :)
Thanks Wendy happy new year to you too 👍
Thanks Stuart a very enjoyable watch as usual. Happy New Year to you as well
Thanks Adrian

B&W for me, I know the real print will be far better than the screen view. And as for the book, Sold 😊
Thanks Simon
I like both but the colour just edges it Stuart
Maybe try cropping the colour one a bit like the B&W.
Great video as always and keep up the great work.
👍
Thanks Gary
Colour for me mate and very exciting news re: book
Thanks pal

@@StuartMcGlennon Yeah, I do get your point about the sapling - it's just me🙄. Looking again, I think that the orange thing might be a buoy. Cheers.
Good to see you back Stuart, Happy New Year.
Like a lot of the comments I do like the colour of the original but the crop really improved the composition.
Did you need a dingy to get to Manesty 😂👍
Thanks matey I parked on the other side but yeah those runners were mad at the start
You're the judge, but I prefer that color image of the sapling, just did not prefer the boxy feel of the B&W, and prefered the warm tones of the color.
Not for me but cheers for watching
Much prefer B&W
Thanks for watching
