    It’s your responsibility to make sure the clips are secured around your gun belt. This isn’t a Canik failure more like a user failure. I’ve had zero issues but I always make sure the clips are secured properly.

      @@degucc WELL WITH A NEW LEATHER HOLSTER IT WILL ALWAYS BE VERY TIGHT WHEN BRAKING IT IN. ONCE IT'S BROKEN IN IT SHOULD NEVER GIVE YOU ANY PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN USING THE SAME TWO LEATHER IWB HOSTLERS FOR TWENTY YEARS NOW. ONE IS FOR A RUGER SP101 AND THE OTHER FOR A GLOCK 30. THE HAVE NEVER FAILED TO KEEP MY GUNS SECURED WHILE USING EITHER OF THEM. NOW TWO YEARS AGO I BOUGHT A NEW LEATHER IWB HOLSTER FOR A NEW CANIK ELITE FROM OUTBAGS AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS FROM IT EITHER... I'M ONLY TELLING YOU WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME. I get what you're saying, and I can certainly understand how the situation that you experienced would make you feel. While training with my Elite SC, I had the same thing happen, but after it did, I have been certain that the hooks were under my belt. At all times as firearm bearers , the functionality of our equipment is on us. There are products out there, all day, v everyday, that will fail, but the holster that comes with the Elite SC isn't one of them. What happened to you IMHO, is not a failure of the product but a failure on your part to make certain that your equipment was secured. Potentially deadly, but only because the holster wasn't secured by the user, not because the holster failed in any way. With all of that being said, thank you for the information on another holster. Our weapons are great, but being a relative newcomer to the industry, accessories can be hard to find. So thank you for getting this information out to us.

      I appreciate your candor, however, after making this video, which is quite old now. the holsters have been changed. The hooks are now reinforced or strengthened. We get to try hundreds of holsters, retention and standard, and the original Canik holsters definitely needed reinforcements on the hooks. The newer ones appear to be much better.

    I saw that issue as soon as I looked at the holster that cane with my Canik tp9sfx and as a temporary fix I took the belt loops off of one of my old glock holsters that wouldn’t work and replaced the clips on the back of that holster, now however I no longer use it because of my weapon light however I did heat it up and reshape it to fit the weapon with the light on it and mounted it to the passenger side of my center console in my F150 so my pistol has its own spot to ride, that ended up working so well that I got another of the factory holsters for free from a friend and did the same to it and mounted it in the custom center console of my Dually, love it

    If you like the holster itself just get some closed loop, metal or leather or even ulticlips to replace the ones it came with and sometimes using different clips on different holsters /sheaths makes a big difference, as I often try mixing and matching clips to use on my fixed blade knife sheaths since I can't carry a firearm at work and by changing clips it adds new life, carry position to an existing holster / sheath

    Just some thoughts. Like you I will provide some background experience. I was a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne and served 30 years in law enforcement (firearms instructor, defense tactics instructor, chemical weapons instructor). Like you, with the partial loop Kydex loops, I’ve experienced pulling my weapon just to have the holster and firearm to come out. Luckily it was a training day not an actual event. This was obviously the last time I used this or similarly made holster.
    This is the part in the video I have some issue. I have found an individual will more likely carry a firearm if it is comfortable. I’m not saying this should be the main thought while deciding on the holster, but should be on the same level as security, practicality, ease of use, etc…. With the number of holsters on the market anyone should be able to find the correct holster to wear.

    Some can say its holster malfunction, some can say it was your responsibility. I feel tho you brandished you gun in a situation you deemed needed and malfunction happened all you can do is learn from what happen and correct it as well as communicate what happen with others. Thank you. Dont look back on what happen in the past, use a negative and turn it into a positive the way you did. I use a walmart shoulder holster except I remove their holster and slide mine on which secures gun with a strap snap. Walmart holster comes also with two clip holders. What I'm trying to say is what ever works besy for you is the way you should carry. Everybody has a different build, just make sure the gun is secure . Good video.

    I have a TP9 elite sc, the plastic holster in terms of fitting the gun like a glove gets an A+, as per functionality this holster would get you killed quick in a real life defense scenario!! My issue with it is being able to draw the gun without pulling up on the holster or pulling off the belt as you have mentioned here. So then I tried an alien gear cloak owb holster which surprisingly disappointed me for alien gear because the plastic wouldn’t cover the entire trigger guard and I felt it was a dangerous holster (the cloak belt holster for my shield is amazing though)
    The biggest issue I have with most holsters is the forward tilt they have, where I would prefer a slight back angle tilt for a quicker draw. I’m still searching for a good owb holster with either a back angle or adjustable angle on the belt

    I don't know if it is possible or not, but I was informed that that holster can have the belt clips unscrewed and screwed in on the otherside to make it an iwb holster. The curved section of the holster will will rest against your body and the clips will be on the outside of the holster allowing your body to catch the holster in the event of a catostrophic holster event.

    I've have never used my CANIK holster for two reasons:
    1. The belt hooks were a turn off for the exact reason you mentioned.
    2. I prefer leather over Kydex and am fortunate enough to have a friend who has been making leather holsters for 20+ years. He makes all of my holsters exactly the way I want them right down to the degree of cant.
    I'm no John Wayne or John Wick. I just want my holster to perform for me and my gun and luckily I am able to have that. In my opinion, having a good holster is more important than what I carry because none of it is worth a damn if it doesn't perform or I have to futz with it when I need it. I would highly recommend to anyone who carries or wants to carry a weapon to find a craftsman and have a holster made that suite *YOUR* needs. The One-for All holsters are fine if you've tried them and settled on one you like but if you can have one made the way you want you will never regret it.

    • @Slugg-O
      @Slugg-O 2 года назад +1

      @@douglassalley9117 Interesting. The instructor we had was a full time SWAT instructor and an LTC on the weekends. He didn't mention that during class but depending on how they are made I can understand the problem. Some get soft and almost floppy after a while. The guy who makes mine molds the leather to the gun. It's not a "will fit" it's a "made to fit" the exact gun it will carry, and it's very stiff with a simple tensioner to take up slack around the slide when needed. He's been making holsters for 30+ years and I've got several and have had no issues. Not trying to brag or spit in anyone's Cheerios. What I have works for me but be wrong for the next person. There's a reason police carry with Kydex.
      A poorly made holster can be a nightmare when it doesn't fit right, and it can also be very dangerous. A customer came into our store wanting a new holster because the Brand X he was using was about a quarter of an inch too short causing the slide to extend about a quarter of an inch below the bottom. He's also a store owner and had a situation unfold in his shop a day or two before and when he pulled his weapon the front sight got hung on the leather. Scared the hell out of him. A proper holster wouldn't have done that.
      I wouldn't risk using anything if I wasn't confident with it. My advice to gun buyers is to go with what works.

  • @rip2889
    @rip2889 Год назад +3

    A few things: 1) In your other elite sc video you called the elite sc's little red indicator at the back of the slide, a chamber indicator. It's not, it just lets you know the slide has been at least partially racked whether the gun is loaded or not. The in chamber indicator is on top of the slide only. 2) In this vid, you called the Canik holster an OWB holster. It's both OWB and IWB, you have to reverse the clips to get it to be IWB. 3) you wore the Canik holster with a wrong type of belt, pulled the entire holster off, and then called it a "Canik TP9 failure." The type of plastic belt loops their holster uses are very common, you just have to use it properly and with the right belt. I use the same clips on an aftermarket holster and never had an issue. It holds for dear life on my 1.5" tactical belt. Good luck and best wishes

      So, I did misspeak in the video about the chamber versus cocked indicator. Not sure which holster you are using but I take exception to the fact that every holster Canik makes is upgraded EXCEPT the one for the SC. No, I was wearing an ASP duty belt and know how a holster goes on. I also do NOT like IWB. That being said, the hooks on ALL of the new holsters are reinforced and larger and more sturdy. Alien gear now makes a OWB holster specifically for the tp9elite SC BUT if you have an optic, it has to be notched slightly, Otherwise it’s a perfect fit if you use a steel core belt. A floppy leather belt will make almost every OWB holster seem like junk.

    The lack of comfort is the reason I can't wear AIWB set up. All my guns are 4" to 4.25" compact. I've been carrying strong side IWB at the 4-5 o'clock position. I had one "expert" tell me he didn't teach strong side carry. He said it was not an effective way to carry. I tried to wear my gun AIWP around my house. It was quick access, but I could not sit without my slide poking me in my obliques. I'm scheduled to take a two day class with him in Oct. 11th & 12th. I don't know if I should wear AIWP in my house till after the class. But, I've been timing my first draw between the two at the range and there's only about .15 sec. difference between my times.

I think I could have used a high ride so I could get a full grip before I clear my holster. Other then that, other then that it works good for me. It's comfortable. I carry it as often as I can. Some functions I go to requires my shirt tail to be tugged in, but any wear I can wear my shirt tail out I carry. I wear a XL shirts and most of them are loose enough to not print.

      @@chrisapperson1975 We are going to have to agree to disagree on this. When sold as a package, you will have a LOT of new shooters get this and not know the difference. It is a failure to offer/sell a substandard holster with a package. To custom make a polymer or kydex holster is pretty inexpensive and the wrong time to find out your holster is crap is when you are in the crap. We own one of the largest gun sites in the US and Canik could easily choose a holster that would cost them, in bulk, under $10.00 and be a real top quality holster and not fail for those who are unsuspecting. Their holster, for what it is, does not pose any potential failure on a draw, although I dislike the SIG holster. In my humble opinion, if Canik is going to market it as a system, they should pick something that will not be prone to a failure on a draw. Buddy, you just don't understand the product. The Canik holster is a hybrid holster. Its meant to be a simple owb holster out of the box ***but it's also meant for you to be able to swap those clips around to the front, wear it inside the waistband and have the clips go over the front of your belt just like almost every other inside the waistband holster in the world.*** I agree with you on the fact that I wouldn't trust my life to this holster carrying it outside the waistband because it uses the quick clips. If you're using it for inside the waistband carry however, it's more than sufficient unless you plan on using a weapons mounted light or laser. Its not a bad holster, it just didn't suit your needs. Of COURSE a quick clip owb holster is meant for nothing other than range use. It should also be mentioned that you should always wear an actual gun belt or at least a very thick belt when carrying a gun. If those hooks don't clip onto your belt, then maybe your micro thin leather dress belt or glorified nylon strap 5.11 Tactical belt wasn't the best choice. Summary. You should have KNOWN from the beginning snap on style holsters are only good for IWB and also should have noticed that this is a hybrid holster. 👍

    • @SecurityAllStar

      All good comments but I'm going to probably do a follow-up with the type of clips on the holster. The flexibility of them is too flimsy. Why don't you share why you would practice with something different from what you would depend on daily?
