I don’t know if you thought the Floors Castle was a new castle related to Roxburgh but it isn’t. The Kerr family who built the original part of Floors moved their from Cessford castle which is on the road to Morebattle on the road towards Jedburgh. They used some of the stones from Cessford to build Floors. In the 19th century, Floors was expanded and outbuildings were added although I don’t know which ones. My gggrandfather was a master mason at Sprouston Quarry during that time and some of the stones would have been cut and shaped by him. Just a few years before that the Floors castle dyke, Duke’s Dyke was built round the area where the castle is. It’s still there today. The family name of the Duke of Roxburgh is now Innes Kerr and note the title isn’t Roxburghshire. I hope this info will be useful for you.

Thanks for the addition. Such detailed information that you have! My reference to "mark II" was more to suggest the seat of lairdship shifting, but your addition adds much.

This was a very interesting video. Thank you very much for the effort. I like that kibd of history and that is exactly what Matthias and me do when we explore ruins or historical sites on our hiking tours - think about and try to find out how people lived there and what they did. We hope that our planned visit at Skye in October will happen since we want to do the Rubh an Dunain Tour again with it's amazing ruins and the viking boat channel. Would be great to have somebody like you there how have a lot more knowledge about these things.🙈

Really interesting video ...however Floors Castle is pronounced , just exactly the same way as you pronounce the word floor as in 1st floor , 2nd floor of a house etc.

What a wonderful afternoon ramble. I so enjoy walking the forgotten countryside and looking at the clues to past usages. How were the midges?
