Definitely better than late 2000s and early 2010s...he was just a mess then. Wish he'd practice more and keep taking lesson like he did in the mid 80s. While he's far from what he once was all you have to do to see how damn good he was is listen to his 1986 Toronto show. I'd argue that's some of the best thrash metal drumming ever.

Lombardo, Benante, Hogland, Nicki...etc. Lars skills started dropping mid 90s...but he worth a hundred million so what does he care. Lol
Rafaël Sonneveld I think he does, sometimes better than others, and obviously he dodges in some fast songs, but when he wants he plays really good and fun.

They’ve practiced more and it shows off. I saw them live in Mexico City in 2017. It was anazing, and they somehow managed to sound better nonetheless. Specially Kirk and Lars have gotten cleaner. Nothing but respect to these guys from a die-hard fan waiting in line to watch S&M2

I was there. Proud to be in one of the loudest crowds on the planet. Metallica enjoyed it. That's how the new extentention of The Memory Remains happened for the first time in Amsterdam. They don't extend Master of Puppets that much either. That's what you get when you put down your phone, enjoy the moment and get fucking loud for Metallica. So next time, when James has recovered and Metallica is back on tour with a new album, you know what to do. 😎
