My problem was in two parts. 1, the VAGcom came with a disk which I couldn't get to work (load the driver) so as you suggested I downloaded from the ross-tech site - which worked fine. 2, You showed how to change the COM port, mine was reading 7 - so I changed it to 2. Then it all worked fine.
Worked perfectly with my $20 Amazon VAG KKL adapter in a 2009 Audi A4 Cabriolet 8HE. Didn't need to use the convoluted drivers that where on the CD it came with. Successfully managed to recode my Symphony II+ radio with it to enable Aux input.

That dongle not only ensured that the the copy of VCDS was legitimate by checking the license when it went on-line but if not it corrupted the cable. Hence saying that you should turn off all network connectivity when it is connected. The latest version of VCDS appears to use Bluetooth to connect from your laptop to the OBDII connector doing away with cables completely.

Does VCDS Lite work with 2006 Audi A3? Looks like you have an Audi of about that year in the video. I was told my A3 was too new to work with VCDS Lite and the KKL cable
@@danieldavis4334 it won't work. The '06 A3 is based on the Mk V VW Golf/GTI platform and electronics. The VCDS Lite app only works up to Mk IV. I had to buy the $200+ software and cable from Ross Tech.

have you got the cable in to the car? i got this error until testing whilst connected to the car. check device manager / ports / look what number port it is 1,2,3,4, etc, then make sure you test with the correct port selected. I have a £5 ebay cable and a licenced VCDS lite, i can do everything i need with that
Hi, i had the same problem. I download the driver from link in description, then i run Driverhub. Drivierhub find this driver and we just need cilck "instal". Computer must run again and now, in device manager the cabel is reading properly. Try this, maybe it would help to you.
Thanks a lot, I have my ebay cable setup correctly with my 2003 Jetta Diesel. When I open VCDS-Lite, I click on "Select" in Control Module, then click on "01-Engine", it tries to communicate and fails after a few seconds and shows an error "too many errors...". Any idea how to fix that? Thanks.

VCDS-lite has limited functions vs full version. U cant adapt or recode modules with lite. U can check fault codes and clear them. VCDS-Lite shows all the DTC's but gives description only on 1st faultcode.
If you don't know how to change com port settings, just install the software into another laptop - you'll be unlikely to find two configuring it as COM6. Alternatively, go into your computer bios (at startup) and disable all COM ports. Then uninstall both driver and software, before restarting and re-installing. That'll do it. You can always re-enable the BIOS COM ports afterwards, if you really do need serial comms for anything?

After i plug in my cable and I go to device manager, My Cable still just reads as "USB Serial" In other devices. So I'm guessing this didn't work
