Hello! I was very busy during May, but I’m back to working on Doodley stuff, with the 100k Q&A next up around mid-June. (Yes, I realize how quickly that number is becoming outdated, I have no idea what’s happening 💀) This video is sort of an experiment. While the big main videos I’ve been doing are my biggest priority and passion as they are easy to approach compared to working in a program, they take a lot of work. My hope is more in-depth tutorials like these can fill in the gaps between the fancy main videos, with the goal to eventually do entire character modeling and rigging program tutorials. Tutorials for Autodesk Maya in particular are lacking in a way that I hope to fix. I’ve also been getting help with editing, like this video which is edited by JandroAlem! Check out his channel here: www.youtube.com/@JandroAlem As always, thank you for the support and let me know what you think!
I would like you to make a video for the physics of the characters such as hair physics or also ragdolls Edit: and speaking of questions and answers, how long does it take you to do these jobs? And what is the name of the character you use for your videos?
Man I can’t explain how much I love Gimberly’s design. It’s so simple yet the details that are there really do bring it all together. I’m not considering doing 3d animation ever, yet it’s amazing how your tutorials can also help me with other types of animation indirectly! Keep up the good work!
I’ll probably never actually animate something, much less in 3-D, but watching your videos is almost like watching someone hold a more practical TED Talk about Astrophysics. There is something very intriguing between your scripts and your character designs, and we are right here for it. Keep it up!
I cannot overstate how amazing these videos are for someone starting out with 3D animation. Your processes and teaching methods are broken down so perfectly for people to understand and the overall quality and smoothness of the editing is so beautiful and easy to follow. Thank you so much for inspiring so many people, including myself!
Man, when I finally stop being lazy and start making games, these tutorials will be great for learning 3D animation! A lot of what you talk about also applies to 2D, from what I can tell, so the basic principals will help there too! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for making things like this for people. It's massively helpful to have content like this coming from someone as encouraging as you, so looking forward to seeing more!
These videos have been incredibly wornderful with demystifying 3d animation! As a small time 2d animator, learning 3d has been difficult to wrap my head around. Definitely hitting the bell icon! ❤
I would love to see more tutorials like this! I am working on animations in school and these explain things a lot! so any more tutorials would be amazing
it’s 4am, I have my year 12 final exams in 3 days, but we are currently watching every single video despite never intending or having animated. Something about this is really just like watching a cartoon more than a tutorial. keep up the good work 👍
I design for animation professionally but I haven't really animated anything since university-watching your videos plus the new animation program Procreate has announced is actually getting me excited to try animating again! Thanks for making your stuff and sharing it, your chill style is so nice to watch and your passion for animation is infectious (。^ᴗ^ )
I actually animate on Alight Motion right now 😭... And since I do my options to animate smoothly are limited. Videos like these are very helpful even if my options are super limited, I have to use a squish effect on the legs and torso and head called, "Scale Assist" to have some sort of weight on my character and make walking look more cartoony, because then the torso looks locked in place with the world while the arms and legs are just randomly swinging. I pretty much have to create the illusion my animation isn't animated on such an app but it is inevitable, there are very bothersome glitches with a layer turning into a white square for a frame and it is almost never fixed. I hope to learn how to use blender to continue animating but with proper 2D rigs, and watch your videos while i'm animating! I plan on using ToonBoom Harmony to animate soon because one of my favorite animators use it and his animations have a reputation of being very goofy and weird but it's all satire and no one can doubt how continuous and smooth yet bouncy and fun his animations are. I hope you can make a tutorial on how to set up your rig and animate it on a software like Blender! Love ya man and also I love how Doodley looks like this cloud emoji ☁️
amayzing recap its super usefull for a begginer animator such as me, next time you do one of this it would be AWESOME if you put something that registers and shows your imputs, so we can see any cool shortcuts you do
Heyo so far this video has been super helpful!!!! I’m at the part where I get to animate the arms right now, but the legs are going smoothly (despite IK and foot roll creation issues =-=), and I hope that maybe when I finish I can personalize it and upload it to RUclips (as long as the model allows me to, it should since I created it in Vroid Studio- but I’ll check)! I just want you to know this will be the first time I’ve ever made an animation before, at least the first real time. I’m absolutely loving it, and I’d love to see more animation tutorials from you!!!!
Alternatively you can animate the hands on a different animation layer if you want different versions of what the hands should do or if you want to offset them with the legs if there is other animation involved that interupts the cycle into another animation.
Ive been really interested in animation for years and I've fiund it really fun doing it casually on and off for a lot of my life (mostly Stop-Motion, clay-mation, flipbooks, and 2d hand drawn), but I've never been able to figure out modeling characters, I could never properly follow tutorials for whatever reason, I think that it has something to do with the 'sterile' and uninviting-ness you mentioned in one of your videos (sorry I can't remember which) and thinking back on it I believe that the sterileness of it subconsciously made it harder to follow? So uh. In future would you be willing to do a video on 3D character modelling, and how to rig it? (Or if this is more of a stream thing would you be happy to stream the process of it?) Sorry if any off this came off in a negative way, Thank you for reading my comment!♡
This is video doesn't have as much touches as you other videos, but it doesn't matter because it was still useful regardless, i animate on the studio version of roblox (the program that lets you create roblox games). Their in-built animation plugin is very basic, you have a limited amount of interpolation/tweening keys, but it gets the job done if you know what you are doing, recently they even added a graph editor that am yet to figure out 😅. I use a more well known plugin and is the standard when making animations, its called moon animator. Compared the roblox's inbuilt animation plugin, this has alot of features, mainly more tweens like sine and quad, an actual camera and you're even able to animate objects without the need of a rig. (edit: Forgot to add, for some reason blender doesn't allow my computer to run it because appearently i dont have the sufficient drivers to do so, i dont know how to fix this, i tried updating it my driver but that didn't work, so i just gave up, hopefully I can get it solved) Maya makes that look like the roblox in-built animation plugin, so many things i wish i can use as an animator that helps with quality of life. An issue i had animating was my idles unaturally looping, or not being able to make the torso movements more natural and having to "fight the computer" as they call it. I never thought for the unatural looping it was that the last key should delayed by 1 or a few for the most part, thanks for this tip i can not express how much this is going to help me. Hope you're doing well and god bless 🙏
Doodley I am learning rigging and animating in Autodesk 3Ds Max. Is it a bad idea you think? Not using biped or CAT. I am just using Bones with IK controls etc. Seem to do the job just fine. But maybe you would have some advice?
It would be awesome if you could show a tutorial as well of a continuation on how to keep the feet planeted when moving in a walk cycle, maybe a part 2??
3d max user: Almost done! All you have to do is apply the skin and adjust the weight... and that's it! I'm ready! Doodley: The class is over. better get next time! 3d max user: *Fuuuuuuuuu*

I watch these for fun, however someday when I try it I know exactly who to go to!
Awesome video! i really needed it, i was having some weir results on the cycles, they always looked too much "robotic" I think
How come you changed the Henry Selick video thumbnail and removed James and Dark Town?
Man I can’t explain how much I love Gimberly’s design. It’s so simple yet the details that are there really do bring it all together.

These videos have been incredibly wornderful with demystifying 3d animation! As a small time 2d animator, learning 3d has been difficult to wrap my head around. Definitely hitting the bell icon! ❤
I am so glad I found your channel, I struggled with finding out the true basics of how rigging works.
Well, you could animate your character walking, or just make them float forward menacingly while t posing
Please continue your videos, they are awesome!
I appreciate the 24/7 doodley cam. It’s great
RAHHH BOUTTA GO NUTS quality as always!

Ha ha I just stretched my leg so they can walk, this video did help me
LETS GO A DOODLEY UPLOAD!
Good stuff! Would like to see more!
I wonder if a convolutional network could be trained by being given "known good" animations of various types, and then fed the graph editor data.
Man thank you so much!
Doodley I am learning rigging and animating in Autodesk 3Ds Max. Is it a bad idea you think? Not using biped or CAT. I am just using Bones with IK controls etc. Seem to do the job just fine. But maybe you would have some advice?
you are a life saver
You should make gimberly do the SpongeBob walk cycle
What about krab's walk cycle lol
Dr gimberly phonk walk.
I was watching your stream then BOOM a vídeo of that jajaja
I don't even animate, but these are so interesting
I dont do animation,i just watch ur vids for fun
I love your videos
It would be awesome if you could show a tutorial as well of a continuation on how to keep the feet planeted when moving in a walk cycle, maybe a part 2??
Wouldn’t it be better if in your example frame 30 was differant then frame 1 because if it was the same then you would have 2 frames of the same image
Nice
Doodly? more like godly
YOO FINALLY
I somehow understood this even tho I don't even animate...

"Blud where is she going💀"

3d max user: Almost done! All you have to do is apply the skin and adjust the weight... and that's it! I'm ready!
Doodley: The class is over. better get next time!
