While the Legend 1997 version of this song is still my favorite I really like this version, I love how loud the crowd cheers for Momo, this was her first song as a member and the crowd let her feel the love.
Great reaction. As I think you saw, 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on the first album and this video marks the 10th anniversary of its release. They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018. This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as an official member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu". Well spotted with the opening drum riff - that is an homage to Metallica's 'One' as you thought. The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death". You got a hint of the sort of thing they do and the theatrics at the start of this performance when they play 'BABYMETAL Death' ... I suspect you would be blown away by the Legend 1997 performance where they were celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday 10 years ago. Being an introduction song they would normally play it right at the start of the concerts (it is a great way to get the crowd hyped and joining in straight away), but that was one of the special occasions where they played it later in the show - for that one it was the finale. Metalverse is the latest era of the BABYMETAL lore (the first 10 years was called the Metal Resistance) - the group Metalverse is a sort of off-shoot of this new era and they surprised everybody with their first appearances (nobody had a clue about them or what was happening) when they performed with BABYMETAL at the BABYMETAL Returns concerts in January last year and again at the BABYMETAL Begins concerts in April where this video was filmed. On both occasions BABYMETAL started one of their songs ('Doki Doki Morning' in January, 'Karate' in April) and suddenly the Metalverse girls were there on another stage mirroring BABYMETAL.

Well with a new 3rd Member they had the ability back to open theor Concerts in the usual .manner. Babymetal Death is simply Babymetal Desu. Their normal Opening song where they declare that they are Babymetal.
Babymetal live is definitely best Babymetal. It's basically an introduction song, they now have a new member, so they are re-introducing themselves to their fans. What is great about a song like this, it's nice and heavy and when they went to festivals in the west and metalheads at festivals who were curious if Babymetal was any good would go see them and then they open with such a heavy song, it always leaves a good impression. 🙂
This song is for the fans to join in with as Su just loves to control the crowd and has the stage presence of the late great Freddy Mercury he was the only other person i have seen that had that kind of power over a crowd. While i love this version it only takes second place in the Babymetal Death versions in my opinion,you cant beat legends 97 live it was a pivotal moment in history and the foundation of what was to come,got to check that one out mate they blow the roof of the building lol 🦊
