Hello Vanessa, I wanted to ask if your still involved in voice over work, is it possible if we could go on a call for 30 minutes in which I could ask you 10 questions on your experiences with voice over work to get a better understanding of it? I’d be willing to pay you £50 for just 30 mins of your time
I find it easy to listen to you Bill. Your voice and style remind of Casey Kasem from the American Top 40. I loved listening to him and brings back fond memories. I am just beginning my voiceover journey after 20 years of incubation. I respect your candor and will look to your program when I am ready for professional training. Thanks again for your time, insight, industry experience and wisdom.
I’ve always been complimented on my speaking voice and have really been looking into exploring this. I’ve been singing professionally for about 12 years, but I’ve never done voice over.
Ha! Not fallin' for it. I made $10k in voiceovers for October 2018 ALONE. That was more than my other usual multimedia pursuits combined! I'm so grateful to God for His provision! I'm doing well, marketing like crazy, pushing forward and paying attention to my goals, tracking, and most importantly, praying. I have some regular clients and lots of individual clients that *are* paying the bills. Definitely doable, and the money sure is there...doing something that I genuinely love with all my heart.
@@princeicio I was saying that I'm not falling for the idea that there's no money in voiceovers. Bill is of course being sarcastic. It's an incredibly lucrative career! :-)
Well said. I'm new to this but one thing any self employed person needs to know is that money doesn't come to you unless you spend the time and effort to line up new business. You need to find customers, build relationships with them, and deliver what they wanted so they keep coming back. This is an ongoing thing, so you need to keep looking for new opportunities. They will not find you unless you look for them, but if you're lucky, your best customers will connect you with new leads. It's still up to you to take those leads and build a relationship with them. I've been self-employed since 1983 and I've never stopped looking for new customers.
Well said, Bill! The old guard is mighty mad that things have changed. There really has never been a better time to be a work at home voice talent (or work at home anything). Thank you for the inspiration over the years!
Hey Bill, back in September I began to pursue vo work based on reading your book. I decided to start at ACX and Voice Bunny. I have already completed two projects with acx and have two more in production. VB is moving a bit slower but I remain confident that if I do the work the business will grow. Thanks for all the encouragement through RUclips. Keep up the great work.
As video editor working with the audio files from VO artists for my day job, when we had folks who were newer in VO come in, they always had the same issues - not understanding audio quality problems, saying that they shouldn't have any issues because they have a $500 microphone, providing messy files, and not being quick to respond to emails or taking too long to send over the files. If you're trying to get into VO and it's just not sticking, you really need to see if you're doing something wrong. There's only so much folks can do on the other end with a bad audio file. If we're hearing background noise, or you're not capable of providing similar audio levels or vocal performance for a VO pickup, then we aren't going to want to work with you anymore and we'll find someone more reliable. We use Bill all the time not just because his voice is perfectly suited to the kind of work we do, but because out of all our vendors he's THE most consistent in quality. So definitely listen to his advice in all these videos.
My cousin is a fairly successful voiceover talent and I've wanted to try for years. I'm almost 46 and due to a chronic condition I now deal with that keeps me from "regular" work, I need to remake myself for the second half, so to speak. I'm scared but hopeful and will be investing in the VO Blueprint in the next week or so (when my next check comes in). Praying that this isn't all hype and that there is room for someone who works hard and follows your plan. Need something to help move us beyond our current month-to-month grind. :) Thanks for the videos!
I have a former colleague who does voice over work, has one awesome client in New Zealand and says he thinks I could doit. I haven't talked to him for while but I will swallow my pride because I really think having a mentor right beside you is invaluable and of course I have Bill!
There is a lot of truth in what you say Bill. Great vlog as always mate. Some of us are making a healthy living through V/O and if we keep doing it right we could be making 6 figure incomes (I read that in a book somewhere) Merry Christmas Bill.
A few people have been saying I have a good voice and could do this work. Have no idea where to start. Searching You Tube and came across your video. Thanks!
I always enjoy your videos, Mr. DeWees, as well as your book -- which is a constant resource for me. Thank you for being so generous with your time and talents.
I am intimidated but I feel if I listen and research and work hard and PUT IN THE TIME I will succeed. I have made some notes and I plan to check out as many videos as I can. It's the tech and marketing part that are intimidating. Thanks for the comments from Cancun and TNA!
I'm also one who did some voice overs in the 90's in NYC but left it thanks to the Voices.com and Voices123 that screwed up the industry. Especially, if you live away from one of the major markets. I'm back to to see what has changed. So I hope to hear good things. And it's starts with this video.
It is all a mindset, like a youtuber said, never give up never what? (dont back down) x2. I am starting into VO, and I did my first audition with ACX. And man.... do I have much to learn, I also am on backstage, you name it. Have I auditioned? Yes, am I raw but aspiring? Yes. I am a content creator where I do make a difference, right now there is no money. But I will get there as I am confident I will. And ya, I agree, that is a 80s mindset. Do I inspire my community? Heck ya! I am someone people look up to, and that is worth every penny. If I had any. But I wont give up. Not even for a moment. And one day I randomly come across Bill's YT channel, I watch his videos. This is the first comment. But it is all about mindset. And Ian I hate to say, is stuck in his ways.
Great video bro. You gave me the encouragement i needed today. I recorded myself doing a line from a movie as a voice over that's a few seconds long. Could I let you or someone hear it to get an opinion of my voice?
My name's Ian and I'm practicing and exploring doing voice overs and voice acting, and hearing Bill say "YOU can do this, Ian!" felt unexpectedly confrontational. Alright my man, I'll do my best!
I watched a Vloger about VO about a month ago. It wasn't a current YT video either. The guy just bashed anyone who was even remotely looking into the VO business. He spoke as if he was the only one who even came close to being hired this day in age to do VO, so don't even bother..... I clicked the thumb down, and moved on... Thanks for your video Bill. It is an encouragement to someone like me wanting to get into VO at the ripe age of 62.
I'm with you on this one, Bill. It's interesting how many radio DJs of yesteryear still cling to the old ways of audio performance and production, then whine about how there's no money to be had in voice over. Not booking work? I betcha any one of us could take a listen to your demo and tell you why! Look, I've only been at this for seven months myself, but I've already completed over 25 jobs and earned income in five figures. I'm still new to the game, yet I'm very excited about the future. So yeah, Ian...it can be done! Quit your whining, and get to work!
@Bill DeWees: I totally agree with you. The real key to becoming successful doing voiceover work is..... PASSION! If you don't have the passion, the love, the enthusiasm for it, then this is not the business for you. That passion leads to learning, which in turn, leads to a successful voiceover business.
Mr. DeWees, I agree with what you've said here. I've invested time money.....more money lol, training, equipment, etc for my dream which is to become a full time voice over talent. I do believe hard work, hard work, training and more training, and being able to tap into the "unknown" of this industry. I've gotten the advice of agents are the way to go, p2p sites are where to start, and on and on. When I refer to the unknown, I'm talking and agreeing with your insight into the thousands, if not more of small business, medium business that want and need our skill set in their success, but they don't have the Hollywood budget. I'm always looking for more training and coaching, not just on the voice over side, but the business side of things as well, and will be checking out your website. I consider you to be a down to earth business man, and would enjoy some dialog and advice. Enough rambling, but I do agree, there is an amazing amount of money in this industry for those that can reach out and work for it, and be humble as well.
Thank you for this information. I really want to be able to do voiceover from my home and I will contact you about classes. Very interested. Thanks again
Wow. What a bad perspective Ian has. If you follow Bill’s plan you WILL get work and you WILL make a living. I don’t even do an audition for a project less than $300. And usually $500 or more. Tuesday I had two jobs. One was a pickup tag from a previous project and another a finishing project for a job I got PAID earlier in the month for doing a scratch track. End of the day Tuesday I invoiced $900. Yesterday I only worked an hour and invoiced $250 on a project for a regular client. I took today off to finish some much needed work on my house. My calls from past clients continues to build and my prospects are now increasing to do work for larger projects. And yeah. Sometimes I’m blown away by how much these people pay me to provide this service for them. BUT they want a pro that knows not only how to read and talk. They want files edited and managed professionally and promptly.
Bill, what's your perspective on those who want to enter the industry, but have a (slight) foreign accent - unfortunately, not the always desired British accent. The 'rest of us' - are we too niche?
Hi Bill how are you? I wanted to ask about how much to charge for 2 30sec TV spots for Amazon session plus usage ? I’m in California. They had previously given me huge projects where they paid one huge buyout and now they’re requesting a live session for those two spots. But I’m not sure what to charge. Help!!! Please
Hey William. I'm a 2018 graduate of Edge Studio's voice over program. So I can say firsthand that it is a great program, especially for beginners. It's not cheap, and like most things, it has its pluses and minuses. I've also been following Bill DeWeese for some time now, and while I haven't trained with him directly, I know he has a fantastic reputation as a talent and a coach. His RUclips videos and P2P demos alone helped me edge (pun intended) closer to success in my own career. My advice is this. Research programs of interest. Absorb everything you can. Ask questions of top performers, like Bill. If you need help with the fundamentals, Edge is a great program for that. For fine tuning performance and mastering your marketing skills, Bill DeWeese is widely regarded as "the man". Whichever direction you choose, I wish you good luck with your efforts.
Hi William! The best way to get started is by watching my training video at BillDeWeesLive.com. At the end of the training, I'll introduce you to my other programs. Best!
Hello William.. I just finished EDGE training, and I it is great! There are many outlets to work with instructors, take classes, or get feedback from your voice peers. I just finished my individual training a week ago, and am auditioning for jobs on a daily basis. While I haven't been booked yet, I do understand that anything you want in life takes work.. and a lot of it. I also took an individual class with Bill DeWees too. Both helped me along the way. It's never bad to get more perspectives on your voice. Get started, grind away, and make it happen. Good luck to you!
Hi Bill, would you please tell me which (if any) extra plug-ins you have on your Apollo Twin Duo, that weren't included with it when you bought the unit. I missed getting one on Cyber Monday because I didn't know what extra plug-ins you might have added to your Apollo when you bought it. As you know, you must order them at the time of purchase or pay much more for the extra plug-ins later. Thank you
Bill, got a VO problem! Got a new mic, new interface, and my voice comes over as only a whisper even with the gain turned all the way up. I've searched RUclips for answers and found some tweaks, but nothing has solved the problem yet. I've tried different software and all had the same results. Any ideas?
Not everybody can be at the top. I've been working at this 20 years and only make a part time income. There's a reason why so many voice actors are making RUclips videos.
Is there anyone who got a thousand dollar gig without Bill's coaching? Yes, me. Use your head. Getting voice work requires......Wait for it.......common sense! Try it sometime. At the same time I am not against Bill's advice, paid or free. He has spent a ton of time using what he knows to help people in the voiceover realm. At the very least he'll boost your confidence in efforts to advance your dreams.
I have no experience in voiceover yet, but can have the right to say this always happens when people get stuck in the past. You always have to remember that things change for how things operate. If you're going to be stuck in the past about it, then you're going to be nothing but a shitty know it all dinosaur with all that experience wasted. I've even witnessed voiceovers make a crap ton of money off free youtube projects. Just because of fan ads, and merchandise orders from simps. People like him piss off newcomers like me. Thank you for clarifying this so well.
Just in case all of the competition is watching this video, there is no money in voice over. Disregard the people who are saying it's still very fulfilling and lucrative because they're not used to gentrification like I am and, let me tell you, (looks around) there's nothing here!
The fact is, the money isn’t there anymore when it comes to union work. Of course there are some who do very well, but that group is shrinking more and more. And they tend to be the people who have decent campaigns like the Geico guy. “15 minutes…” Certainly, a teacher would want to see the glass half full for obvious reasons. If you bust your ass and do a lot of $50 jobs, $100 jobs and then the infrequent $5k to $10k non-union job, sure you’re going to make a living. But the days of waiting for your agent to call to send you to auditions and having several national spots running a year that pay $75-$100,000 each, after residuals, are gone. There’s no arguing that. I know, I was one of them, and many of my friends here in New York were those people as well. (Rest in peace Robb Webb) Nonunion work has taken over and even the rates for nonunion work keep dropping more and more. There is so much more competition because everybody in the country and in the world can potentially audition for something... add to that the fact that so many people want to get into it. There was a time when a celebrity wouldn’t touch a voiceover gig. Now they have most of the big accounts out there. So yes, there are people making a living but the business has changed an awful lot. It’s not glamorous anymore and you have to bust your ass as in any other business. It used to be that you could focus entirely on your craft and develop your talent to be successful. It seems nowadays you have to be everything. Talent, engineer, marketing expert, social media expert, etc. That’s all fine, but the fact is, it’s very different than it used to be. An example of the good old days. I did about 75 sessions for Late Show with David letterman. You’d walk in, see a handful of your friends who had the same gig, be there for 15 min to a half hour while you waited your turn to do your promo and then leave. You’d either be $410 richer or $850 richer depending on how many lines there were. And then, eventually you got residuals for reruns and foreign usage. Just a reiterate, I’m not saying Bill is wrong. I am saying that the the guy whose comment Bill read was right.
Bill, there is no point in addressing these daft comments. People like this are in the wrong mindset and if you try to drag yourself down to their level, they will beat you with experience.
Meh. Goody for you. This video is all about you making money - but making money does not make you interesting. You lack the "success ethos" really good presenters have. Sorry. Moving on. TT

Thank you
I have the API vision travel strip and the analog bundle
Thank you for your answer. I appreciate you taking the time.@@TheVoiceoverBlueprint
I think hes the other voice over for Bright Side 😅
I want money
With a voice like yours, I can see why....
Maybe Ian was trying to discourage his competition by saying "The money isn't there" 😄 🤔
Yes, like Dutch Paul S.
Darlin the page has been deleted.
There's no money in something, or you can't do that, says somebody who's either not tried, or is afraid they won't get the work
If you have no connections good luck.
“15 minutes…”
Certainly, a teacher would want to see the glass half full for obvious reasons.
(Rest in peace Robb Webb)
Nonunion work has taken over and even the rates for nonunion work keep dropping more and more.
Wait I don't get it is he saying there's no money in this or is this a tongue in cheek joke?
Bill, there is no point in addressing these daft comments. People like this are in the wrong mindset and if you try to drag yourself down to their level, they will beat you with experience.
Ian has obviously never earned $12,000 in 2-1/2 hours!!!!!
$12000 in 2 hours? no way!! How? When? Why?
420 video length :^)
Total Noob--what is the first thing I should do? Everybody wants to sell me something
I make $275,000 per year from bed and so can you
Meh. Goody for you. This video is all about you making money - but making money does not make you interesting. You lack the "success ethos" really good presenters have. Sorry. Moving on. TT
