Same exact problem in my new to me home. Beautiful craftsman from 1967. Full brick and timber frame. Red Oak hardwood & Honey gold stain floors throughout. 8x8 sheet of linoleum glued down right in front of the main door.. I can't think of anything less than mental illness or alcohol use as the cause.

Today o removed that plastic flooring for 9 hrs it will take me 4 or 5 days to remove everything!

That's just crazy. Big wasted time. I would have gone over it with a vinyl plank flooring. Call it a day. I am removing vinyl tiles from plywood. In some areas they put it over sheet vinyl it wasn't glued down. And they expected that stick. People do dumb stuff.
