Wow Ads, I think this is one of the most important videos for motorhome home owners on so many levels. - Never ignore the warning signs/clues of trouble. - Actively search for problems. - Every warning needs thorough investigation to "root cause", with no assumptions/rose tinted glasses. The sooner it is investigated and fixed, the better. - DON'T PANIC - Habitation / damp checks are vital. Many owners seem cynical as to their value, but once everything is covered in laminate there is little evidence, in the early stages, of what is going wrong underneath. - Now we can understand why manufacturers are so insistent on annual habitation check history as a condition of warranty claims. - How complex/expensive rectification work could be, and how rapidly the costs could escalate, if early signs missed. - With motorhomes, and coachbuilts in particular, there are so many opportunities for water to get where it should not, from day one. As they age it will only get worse. - How careful you have to be when buying a used motorhome, and why a current, independent, damp survey and habitation check history is so important. Always look below the surface, head over heart. - Why car manufacturers stopped using wood years ago! - AFTER a customer has bought a motorhome the dealer should take them to the service department, and make them watch this video, so that they understand the small print, and then book the first check/service for one years time!
Thanks Simon, great comments there. I particularly like the last point. I can imagine the dealer saying "now, before we can allow you to drive away your new motorhome we need to show a documentary on what can happen if you don't look after it. Please take a seat". 🚐🚐🚐👍

Hi Annie, the whole floor is made the same way but only the edge has the damage. How did you repair the the seams between the panels? Someone has done a repair on our Hymer, with tape it looks a little ugly but seems to be effective. I was wondering about re-doing it myself or taking it to a Hymer dealer for a professional job?
Hi Hummel Hymer, I noticed that there was a water stain just above the door on the inside. I then found a small gap in the seam just above the door which I fixed with Sikaflex. If you want to fix yours properly you'll need to do some investigation. The length of the tape might indicate the extent of the problem. Thanks Mark, you can do the checks yourself. It's just a matter of looking and taking notice. Do you have a moho?
@@HermanHitstheRoad No Motor Home or classic car coz no garage or driveway for a start, surely you need to be a contortionist to carry out habitation checks though 😀😁😂😃😄
LOL, yes you need to be able to get and most importantly get out of tight spaces. We also don't have a drive way. We store Herman 15 min away. I'm interested by you mentioning "classic car". You are obviously interested in them. What would you like to own? I've restored a VW Beatle but I'd love to have a Porsche 356, kit car or real mascot 👍👍🚙🚙
@@HermanHitstheRoadLike quite a few like many others, mainly british sixties cars, Rover P5 Coupe, Humber Imperial, Rover P6, Vauxhall Cresta ,Wolsey Hornet, Triumph Stag, Daimler Dart, and Volvo P1800
Volvo P1800 are nice but my fav has to be the Amazon 👍👍👍

Sorry, Nigel I don't know. You could take a look at the Classic Hymers Technical Facebook group. There's loads of good information on there

His name is Chas, Bernard. He is not a caravan service engineer but is a qualified electrician, plumber and mechanic. I made a video about him

@@HermanHitstheRoad wow thanks for replying so soon I would like him to do some jobs on my autosleeper 'also your videos are great we watched them all hopefully sometime in future to own a classic hymer
Just seen two other couples doing the same thing you were doing the other day, 5 luxury items in our RV. Why dont you do what I do when get to a site, e.g. fill water bottle, empty cassette? Etc
I hoped you enjoyed the video, Keith? I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you saying that you want to see a video of us filling up the water tank and emptying the toilet cassette? I don't normally show the chores of camping/motorhoming but I do have a video I made when we were in Devon where those things do get shown. ruclips.net/video/fIC9SjjZLzA/видео.html
If you'd like to see a third video on 5 luxury items check this out! ruclips.net/video/5eFEVK8UsHU/видео.html
'if we gotta take the bathroom out of we gotta take the kitchen out so be it"
"Right," said Chas, "Have to take the wall down
That there wall is gonna have to go."
Took the wall down, even with it all down
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea
And Chas had a think, and he said, "Look, Adds
I got a sort of feelin'
If we remove the ceiling the bathroom and the kitchen too
With a rope or two we can pull the rot down through."
This is comedy gold Adds.Cant believe poor Herman is rotten as a Pear. What a shocker.
Dont think I would take the bumper off getting too involved but as they say "each to their own"
Cant wait for part two.Oh look its up on RUclips already lets see if the Bodging can be put right ooooh eck
atb Michael Skegness
Thanks for that Michael. Chas has been singing it 👍👍👍
What part of the Country are you from?

Sorry - 30 mins from the Black-forest.
Hi Hummel, I'm not sure I understand your comment.
Sorry, made a typo in my 1st Long message Living SW Germany on the border with France and 30mins from the Black-forest ☺️
My question was how did you repair the leaks in the seams between the panels, someone has done a repair on mine, its a bit ugly wondering if its reasonably simple to do a better job and if you had some advice?
Poor Herman. Good to see him getting proper TLC.
ps. The vibrating saw is originally a surgical bone saw. It is used for example in attaching tendons to bones and other similar stuff you are up to with Herman.
I fixed the leak in the roof using Sikaflex. It was a small hole in the seam. Well, I hope I have fixed it. Still not sure about the window though.
